  1. That's a nicely written article. Good to see some of you making yourself available for comment.
  2. Man, what a shame. We used to attend Movies in the Park all the time when I was in the college and shortly after. Too bad some idiot had to show up and ruin a fun event for everyone.
  3. You might call first, but any shop worth their salt ought to have at least one of the type. If I had my pick, I'd go for a Belgian made Browning. My dad's carried one for the last 30 years or so. He ran 1000 rounds through it last year in a defensive pistol class with me and didn't experience a single issue.
  4. My wife's grandfather was a "revenuer" for his entire career with the Atlanta office of the ATF. I've read several books on moonshing in Georgia, because he's usually mentioned. They all said that they hoped it wasn't Carl Koppe chasing them.
  5. I'm always glad to see someone actually get to attend their ceremony in person!
  6. I did a detail strip before putting it in the tank. Ran it for two 480 second cycles. Cleaner got it spotless. After reassembly and lube, it may as well be a new weapon.
  7. That two dollar "wine" will tear you up every time.
  8. I don't think I'd be as worried about a round cooking off as I would the pressure issues due to the heat. Heat can dramatically increase powder burn rates, and depending on the powder could result in a dangerous situation. I think your car would likely have to be on fire to have rounds cook off with modern powders.
  9. I use a small lockbox secured inside the vehicle as well. If you are leaving a weapon in a vehicle with another person who doesn't have an HCP, you need to either lock it up, unload and appropriately separate the weapon and ammo, or bring the person inside with you. Leaving a loaded weapon hidden but unsecured in a car with another person is no different than leaving them with the weapon.
  10. I love a good linen micarta. A nicely textured G10 and aluminum are right behind them, though.
  11. You know, I'm pretty sure the scopes aren't really the heart of your safe's problem...but if it makes you feel better, then who am I to deny you that. Let me know if it works out for you. My safe is having the same problem.
  12. A Hi-Power is definitely worth a look. They're great pistols without the price premium that a 1911 in 9mm attracts.
  13. Duplicate threads merged...
  14. The retrospect is great. It's free around town, but I subscribed and get it in the mail. I was reading it every month, and figured they could use the support. WSJ runs a promotion where you can get six days a week print edition plus online/tablet for $99/year.
  15. I quit years several years ago in favor of the Wall Street Journal, which I still take daily. My primary problem was and is that I can pick up a copy of the Tennessean, or the Jacksonville Times, or the Atlanta Journal-Constitution or any of several other papers and basically be reading the same paper. Now that all of these are getting a lot of their news from the Associated Press or Reuters or wherever, I just didn't see the need. If I want that, I can go online. I do like reading a physical paper, though. Even though I'm in front of a PC all day, and do read several news aggregators, I find that my online viewing is Balkanized. That is, I'm only going to follow links and read things I'm interested in. As I read the front section of the Wall Street Journal as I'm eating my cereal in the morning, I'm exposed to several stories I likely wouldn't see otherwise. So, for that, I like getting a paper. That said, the WSJ's iPad app is fantastic. You basically have the whole paper, in an easy to navigate and consume format on your device.
  16. Shoot me a PM anytime.
  17. I've got a D.M. Bullard for a commander sized 1911 and a couple kydex options for full size weapons with rails. If you want to come down to Brentwood, you're more than welcome to try them out on your particular weapon.

Turns out that the less you use ear protection, the less you need it anyway.
  19. I'd likely be interested in a Fall offering. I think a lot of people on here will need enough notice to save for ammo.
  20. I've been waiting for this, Joe. Congrats.
  21. ESEE 5 is absolutely bomb proof. It's my go to big knife, and my get home blade. There's video on the web of people battening them through other "good" knives. Abusive, yes. But I like to know that my knives can take anything I'm likely to dish out.
  22. I like how this thread has turned.
  23. The HEST Fixed is a sweet little blade that's tough as nails! I really like the hollow handle. I've got a mischmetal rod, some snare wire and a fishing kit in mine.
  24. Nice review. Randy, I'm looking forward to taking this class when you offer it again. I had a previous commitment this time around, but am looking forward to it in the future.
  25. I can appreciate a dissenting view. There's no reason to be a jerk just to stir stuff up, though. He posted his view in the SR1911 thread and was called on the way he posted. Had that been it, he would have gotten a pass. People have differing views all the time. His was probably a view worth discussing in a different thread. Instead, he couldn't discuss his views like a big boy, got his feelings hurt, and posted this "better than all of you" thread. I'll tolerate you being arrogant. We've got all flavors of arrogance around here. But, in my book, you only get to be malicious once. And, at that point you've shown you're no good for this community. Either get a better position or better rhetoric. This guy won't missed.
