Gun sales in Arizona on record pace
MacGyver replied to MikePapa1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
My high school newspaper editor would have returned it and told me to give it back when I was finished with it. -
Have you got a 7.62mm suppressor?
-
That's really cool! We owe a lot to the animals used in our wars.

If you know of a good deal, feel free to post it. We just frown upon stumping from an employee/owner if they're not a vendor.

I could not agree with this statement any more. Debates, however are based on either an agreed upon set of rules, or a mutual understanding of common courtesy. We have the first of these here, based on the code of conduct that everyone agreed to abide by when they signed up. The second should go without saying, but unfortunately in today's world, it doesn't. Unfortunately, with a few hot button issues, good rhetoric goes out the window, and chaos ensues quickly. This isn't just on our forum. It happens everywhere. Even, unfortunately at the national level. There are a lot of threads in some of the subforums that go into page upon page of "healthy debate". We encourage that. That's why this forum is here. Abortion, same-sex marriage, religion, alcohol, drugs and politics tend to bring out the worst in folks. I get it. We've reached a point where most of these have become litmus test issues that a lot of people get hyper-focused on. When this happens, most rational conversation goes out the window. It's unfortunate, because in this experiment that we call America, there are some other important things that don't get focus because these topics steal the spotlight. And, unfortunately the conversation even at the national level is unhealthy. I think we forget sometimes that the experiment is still ongoing. We can still screw it up. As I said earlier, discuss pretty much anything you want. But know, that if I close your thread, your rhetoric is likely lacking.

Like I said in the other thread, I didn't want to have to ban anyone on a Friday. I closed it before it got there, but it was certainly heading that direction.

It is why we have a "General Off-topic" section. I'm a frequent participant there, and enjoy a lot of the threads. Here's the deal, though. This is a community. It's a community that's centered on a common interest - firearms. There are a lot of people who have chosen to be a part of this forum because they have this common interest. Their personal ideologies are across the spectrum. When you get a thread like the one I closed earlier, they have the potential to harm our community quickly. Abortion particularly is one of those issues that galvanizes people, and gets people's hackles up. What may start as a "polite debate" quickly devolves into name calling, and that's hurtful. My personal feelings on the issue don't matter. I've never closed a thread I've disagreed with on a personal level, even though I have definite, concrete opinions on abortion, adoption, drinking and carrying, Christianity, etc... That's not my job, here. And, it's not the purpose of this forum. When a thread becomes harmful to our community, or a member shows that they are going to continue to act in a way that is contrary to our community, I'll act to preserve the community. A good forum doesn't happen by accident. David has done a great job of putting together one of the top firearms related forums in the country. We're fortunate as moderators that we don't have to do much to foster that. Post any topic you like. Discuss it in a collegial manner. But, know that when the thread starts to devolve and the name calling starts, I'll close the thread every time. I am happy to explain any decision I make as a moderator. Hopefully, most of the time, the reasoning is clear without my needing to explain it. But, feel free to ask, whether publicly or privately anytime.

It's Friday. I don't want to end up banning someone when the inevitable name calling starts. This is a gun forum. I'm going to close this one as it's crossed the anti-proselytizing boundary.

Firearms Freedom Act - Court Challenge Underway
MacGyver replied to MacGyver's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The NRA has great things to say about Mr. Marbut personally as well as his book. The NRA has had their success by staying narrowly focused on pure 2nd Amendment issues. While I would relish the firearms related benefits a win in this case would mean for the citizens of Tennessee, it is a case designed purely to reign in the Fed's Unconstitutional interpretation of the 10th Amendment. This case is way bigger than gun issues alone, and may be a defining moment in our citizens/states taking back power from the Fed. I wouldn't want to argue one Amendment's priority over another, and can understand why the NRA is hesitant to get involved here when they've already got several cases that they are involved with making their way to the Supreme Court. We all stand to benefit from both of these individual tracks. And, whether you're a fan of the NRA or not, we have all benefited from their activism - as dysfunctional as it may be sometimes. I do hope they'll file an amicus brief in this case. Gary Marbut's going to have the whole of the entrenched Washington establishment coming after him. I expect he could use all the friends he can get. -
alcohol...carry, but not on person

I really suggest you drop this subject. I won't ask again. -
That pistol isn't worth much. Not even a Taurus. You'd be getting the short end of that deal.

Firearms Freedom Act - Court Challenge Underway
MacGyver replied to MacGyver's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The NRA, oddly has pretty much steered clear of this one. Something about this being a 10th Amendment case, not a 2nd Amendment one. I get it, I guess, but it seems like this guy can use all the people he can get in his corner. Hopefully they'll at least file a Friend of the Court brief. -

After some further research, he's "entered into a contract to produce and deliver" a single rifle. He's got a 500 customer waiting list if he wins. Too bad he's in front of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. I can't think of an unfriendlier venue. At least he'll have reason to appeal to the Supreme Court. -

Yeah, I would be curious as to whether he's made more than one, and would expect he's not delivered any. -
There is a great article on the front page of today's Wall Street Journal highlighting Gary Marbut and his quest to use Montana's Firearms Freedom Act to limit the government's interpretation of the 10th Amendment. A Gun Activist Takes Aim as U.S. Regulatory Power Some of you may know that Gary Marbut, the progenitor of the Firearms Freedom Act has designed the Montana Buckaroo, a .22LR chambered rifle to test the case. I love this quote from the article: I think I've found my write in candidate for president.

Hey, Congrats!

Yeah, me too. I could eat it every day.

Just don't go hoping to find a pork sandwich and you'll be fine. Enjoy it. San Antonio's a nice town.

Good deal. Even if you don't want to follow a specific training program, work in some hills and intervals on a track. As distance runners, we often get hyper-focused on adding distance, and just assume our times will come down as we build capacity. This might happen if you really start out slow, but isn't guaranteed, and certainly isn't very efficient. Nothing builds speed like intervals and hills. Shoot me a PM or give me a call if you want to talk about what's appropriate for you.
-
You got a goal for this half, David? A 2:05 last finish puts you squarely in contention for a sub-two hour finish? Break that 9 minute pace and you finish in 1:57! Good luck. Keep us apprised on the training.

Word on the street is that the Trident ammo referred to in the OP isn't pure copper like a lot of other solids on the market. It is a copper alloy containing a high percentage of zinc and a little tin. In the engineering world, we have another name for this alloy - we call it brass. Brass bullets are a no go in pistols according to the current rules. If you look at any forums where the Trident rounds are discussed, they are commonly referred to as solid brass. Sounds to me like the guys at Elite should have known better.

I just can't see the need for the average concealed carrier. In fact, I would guess that for the average carrier, a thumb snap would be a serious detriment. Seeing a person carrying concealed with a thumb snap type holster tells me that they haven't shaken their gear down in a stressful situation. I've seen plenty of people show up to defensive pistol classes over the years with thumb break type holsters. Most of them come back the second day with a different holster. If you need that pistol, and you haven't trained with it extensively, that snap is adding precious time that you may not have to your draw stroke. Likewise, on reholstering it presents an opportunity for something to get caught in the trigger gaurd, and often precludes one handed reholstering. No thanks. I agree with your premise that you have to be concerned with keeping control of your weapon, I just think the concealed weapon carrier can do it without active retention and marketing gimmicks.
