You're trying to out do all of us once and for all on the big bore stuff aren't you? Can't wait to see how it turns out!
-
SERE school is serious stuff, and too my last knowledge the cadre teaching are the some of the best there is at staying alive. You are expected to learn. They'll push you beyond your boundaries. Pay attention. If you ever need any of those skills you'll have the rest of your life to remember them. Good luck.

Your weapon is always and absolutely your last resort. Use it any other time and you're likely to go to jail.

I'm liking what I'm seeing in the Ruger Gunsite Scout, but am going to wait a little time before jumping on one. In the meantime, the Springfield Armory Scout Squad would be my goto scout rifle.

If you believe the 2nd Amemdment is a right, then either it applies everywhere, or it applies nowhere. Unfortunately from a legislative and case law perspective, we're in a grey area of "not quite a right, but you can purchase the privilege". Kudos to Dollywood for recogniznig rights I shouldn't need to be armed on my way to the grocery store, or getting money out of the ATM. But I am. I don't carry a weapon because I'm scared. I carry a weapon because I believe that as a husband and a father I have a responsibility to protect my family. Threats don't stop along neatly drawn lines. Bad guys have no respect for anything or anyone. Look at the number of parks, restaurants and public gatherings blown up in Israel over the last couple of decades. If someone really wants to make a statement, they're going to where the people are. Give some thought to what happens when you're on the losing end of that beating and the assailant shows no signs of stopping. What happens when you cross the line from ass-whoopin to getting killed? You don't have a weapon - you're dead. Really, the above is a bit of a trick question. When you strap on a weapon, different rules apply to you. You have no business fighting, and I would argue have the burden to retreat - even if it causes you humiliation, hurts your pride, etc... You don't get the luxury of those things when you strap on a weapon. Maybe so, but that's his perogative in the state of Tennessee, and it really doesn't sound like he did too poorly. Wishful thinking won't keep you safe. Sometimes no amount of thinking will. It sounds like you are a new permit holder, and maybe have some thinking to do about carrying a weapon. It really comes down to this: When you strap on a weapon, you're either an asset to society or a liability. There's no in between. Just carrying a gun isn't a magical talisman. You have the responsibility to know how to run it, when to run it, and to hit what you're aiming at every time. That takes thought, training and discipline. It's something that we all need to revisit on a regular basis.

I'm waiting for this to hit the market: Microsoft alum fights malaria by zapping mosquitoes with lasers | SmartPlanet It's the mosquito death star, if you will. One device can target up to five acres, and is fine tuned enough to be able to distinquish between male and female mosquitos. It has huge implications for both force protection on our bases abroad, not to mention potentially eradicating malaria worldwide.

Recommend a GOOD roofing company in Middle TN?

QE construction out of Murfreesboro just did mine at the recommendation of my insurance agent. They did great work. I'll shoot you a PM with the guy's contact info. -
Hey man, welcome onboard. There's a lot of good knowledge on here.
-
No. Replaced it with another one just like it but in it's full red glory - as opposed to the salt and sun bleached pink

You bought a 1911? I knew something felt off driving through Smyrna the other day. In all seriousness, to the OP I like Wilson Combat 47Ds and ETM mags. I've never had a problem with either.
-
I'd suggest either providing some data to back up your racial claim or editing the OP accordingly. This thread is on thin ice. Discuss mob based crime trends if you like. But, if I have to clean this thread up, don't say you weren't warned.
-
I've got some lancers around here somewhere that I'll try.
-
Is it an OAL issue? I guess all my old mil-spec mags have been lonely over the last few years.
-
Yeah, it looks like you're going to be done in no time. Probably just enough time to call Mark and get that new safe delivered.
-
Thanks. I'm taking my time, and really am in no hurry. Hopefully I'll have some pictures of the barrels when I get back this weekend.

Spyderco Military is a great blade! I also am a big fan of the ParaMilitary if you want a 2/3 scale sized knife. The most common complaint about the military is that it's big. That fact doesn't really bother me. I'm of the school that says you can almost always do little knife work with a big knife, but can almost never do big knife work with a little knife. It's not terribly "tactical" - whatever that actually means in a knife, but I really like the new Benchmade 915 Triage. I've been a fan of sheepsfoot blades since my old search and rescue days.

Yeah, it's 5/8-24 on the 338 Spectre, but 5/8-32 on the .458. I have a feeling that Rock River might have something to do with this, but honestly don't know.
-
I think it's a 5/8-32 thread. So there should be some good options.
-
A good brake would probably be a good thing. I'll look around.
-
I've heard that it turns an A2 buttplate into an unpleasurable experience. It can collapse cheap multi position stocks. I'm thinking maybe an Ace stock. I wouldn't shy away from a collapsable stock, but would make sure it's a good one.

The round was designed to achieve full burn in 9.5". The standard 16" barrel is the most popular by far.
-
Accuracy does seem to be excellent with that round. Didn't someone shoot an official 1.5 inch group at 600 yards a couple of years ago?
-
Performance is good - at least from what I've seen. It does seem to be s somewhat unsettled caliber with Les Baer coming out with their own version and Sabre's license being affected by their poor choices. So long as you're okay with potential hassles of using a non-standard round, I'd say go for it. Were it my rifle, and I was looking for something intermediate, I'd probably go with 6.8SPC. But frankly, I like both 5.56 and.308 for their own reasons, and haven't seen that intermediate need. I'm putting both my 338 Spectre and .458 SOCOM builds in a separate class. Primarily looking at how quietly I can deliver big rounds at relatively short ranges with devastating energy.

That's what I'm talking about. Be sure to share the components you decide on.

About to move a lot of money out of Regions Bank...

Make sure you let both the local branch manager and corporate know why you're leaving. Branch managers are judged on deposits and retention. they don't want to lose anyone.
