The precedent this case sets - regardless of your feelings about abortion - harms the court and the country. Gun rights won’t be the last controversial topic in which this ruling will be used as support. The justices know that, too. So maybe look at it like this. Five justices knew good and well this would be applied to gun rights (because if nothing else Roberts explicitly told them so in his dissent) and willingly went ahead and offered those rights up anyway. They were sent up there to do a job and took the first opportunity they got to do it. But, because they swung at this case - it’ll have ramifications that spread far beyond abortion.

I consider myself firmly pro-life. Actually, I consider myself pro whole life - which puts me at odds with just about every mainline political group. The hardliners are going to get what they want by what more or less amounts to a trick. Roberts warned about this in his dissent. Of course they knew this was going to happen in states like California. But they don’t care - this is their god.

I fail to see how this thread brings any value to this community. What does it do for the whole of the community for one group to point at another and tell them they suck? Memphis doesn’t need me to defend it - and I’m sure our members who live there are fine with the rest of y’all staying home. But, I just don’t get it.

Sadly, the victim mentality that pervades populism pretty much assures that sooner or later pretty much everyone will find themselves the enemy. It's confusing at first. And, it's an awfully lonely place to find oneself. You get over it though.

A lot of very serious people I know are really paying attention to this variant being sequenced out of South Africa. None of us are out of this until all of us are out of it.

Got my flu shot the other day to no fanfare. No noticeable side effects. That said, everyones' immune systems are kind of trashed right now. It's kind of like when you send a kid to kindergarten and everyone who's previously been healthy spends the next year sick every other week. A lot of people have been doing a lot less over the last year and a half. It will be unsurprising to see traditional vaccines and colds and such knock some people off level for a bit.

If I was buying another one today, I’d buy another Pit Boss in a heartbeat. Their Pro Series 820 is just about perfect.

I took a group of Scouts camping last weekend - male and female alike. Scouting went coed a few years ago. It’s great. We were one of two countries that didn’t combine the sexes in scouting - Saudi Arabia being the other. Do I have some concerns about the increasingly rare spaces where “boys can just be boys?” Sure, I guess. That said, the organization formally known as Boy Scouts of America is going through bankruptcy right now because of some of the abuse that came along with that space. We all take child protection seriously these days - and by adding female scouts we have to be even more specific. So I’m all for it. Will they go through some growing pains? Almost certainly. For what it’s worth - no one made them do it. It was pure consumer demand. Too many girls were of the impression that Girl Scouts had basically turned into an MLM for selling cookies and they just wanted to go camping. The scouts themselves don’t care in the slightest - and I’ve talked to them a lot about it. It’s actually quite interesting to me that even at the youngest ages - the girls that show up as natural leaders.

We’ve got some friends with a King Charles Spaniel. It’s hands down the most laid back dog I’ve ever met. It’s good with kids. Good with strangers and other dogs. Perfectly content to just come sit beside you.
