  1. Wolf has a bad reputation from the days when their cases were lacquered. They were rumored to cause a lot of problems, though I expect in reality, it was one of those "I know a guy" things. So long as you don't plan to reload, shooting steel cased ammo shouldn't cause any problems other than maybe some accelerated extractor wear.
  2. I sure wouldn't want to test it in July!
  3. Sound like you need to talk to your roommates about finding a fourth occupant. If you're relaying the whole story, it sounds like you want out, they want you out, and they're probably in a fine position to find another roommate.
  4. As a kid, one of my favorite thing to do was go to air shows and aviation museums with him, because he had stories about every plane you saw. He flew with the 8th, and the Mighty 8th Museum has a lot of his stuff. He donated a bunch of it a few years before he died. I've got his logbooks in my safe. They're prolific because he continued to fly after the war as a trainer and then for Delta until he retired in the 80s. It's amazing to look at pages from WWII and see page after page of bombing runs. Unlike many, he would talk about it. It's probably as close to an example of "just war" that we have, and I think he saw it that way. We really owe those guys a debt of thanks.
  5. Neat trip! That's a cool museum, too! My grandfather flew over 300 missions in a B-17 during WWII. Flew missions in both theaters, including a bunch of missions in an H model that had a lifeboat atttached instead of bomb. One of my fondest memories with him was getting to fly with him in a B-17 that the Confederate Air Force was moving across the country several years ago. He was in his mid-80s and in failing health, but when that plane pulled of the active runway and taxied up to where we were standing, he may as well have been 18 again. He tossed his walker aside and pulled himself right up in the plane. I keep his IFR "diploma" on the wall in my office.
  6. I would absolutely find someplace to store it besides my car in the interim. "You can't store it in your apartment, but you can store it in your car" sounds like an invitation to have your car broken into within about a week as soon as some apartment manager with a big mouth goes talking about the guy with the gun. This whole thing, as described is asinine on multiple levels. It sounds like perhaps your weapon storage and securement routine could use some work, but you need to ditch those roommates and that complex in short order. Seriously. Nothing good happens from here as long as you're there. Get out of there.
  7. Netflix is down another 20% in after hours trading after their earnings call today. Seems they think they're not done hemorraging just yet. At some point it would seem like they're going to lose so much that they may not even be able to sustain their operation.
  8. Lone Wolf Distribution is making a complete lower that takes Glock mags. I haven't picked on up, yet, but I plan to in the near future.
  9. Welcome to TGO and back to Tennesse.

He had a heart defect. That in and of itself was manageable. Despite the amazing care Vanderbilt Children's Hospital gave him each and every day, the old adage is true. If you spend long enough in the hospital, it will eventually kill you.

    Prayers

Please keep my good friends Bob and Ashley in your prayers. After 5 months and 18 days, they had to say goodbye to their little boy tonight. They have a great group of friends and family around them propping them up right now, but as a father of a child who was born three days before him, I cannot even begin to imagine their loss.
  12. I hope you're right.
  13. I think the pros here probably outweigh the cons, but I sure hope we're not throwing a country under the bus just to further a reelection bid.
  14. I bet we've got some folks on here who do pretty well with not much more. From a "preparation" perspective that we're always talking about, this would definitely have some appeal.
  15. Cool story.
  16. I'd check out this place behind the fairgrounds first: Battleground Army Surplus 2001 Nolensville Pike Nashville‎ TN‎ 37211 United States It's not very big, but I've always had good luck there. Freidman's is simply one of those places where I refuse to spend my money, and I don't really have many on that list. Perhaps it's because I know what a good experience in a surplus store looks like, but I have been continually disappointed with these guys since the mid 90s. Every time I try to give them another chance I end up regretting it. They're rude, generally ignore you (which I generally prefer) and when they do help you, treat you like they're doing you a favor by trying to sell you something. I really don't know how they keep the lights on.

I didn't know that about Kahr until just now.
  18. I've got the equivalent rifle in .17HMR. It's one of my favorite rifles. With the acu-trigger from the factory, good glass and a decent bipod, the rifle should be more than capable of doing anything that you can reasonably expect from a rimfire. Mine has really far exceeded my expectations.

  21. Yeah, even if street price is half that, as they usually seem to be, they're still expensive. These are the "Master Series", too. So, I'm sure they're priced accordingly.
  22. It's good to see that Crimson Trace has finally given in after years of requests and produced a set of laser grips for bobtail 1911s. It's been rumored for a while, but this is the first I've seen them actually for sale. Crimson Trace | Master Series Rosewood Laser Sight for 1911 Bobtail
  23. I can look at myself in the mirror in the morning and be proud of what I see staring back. At the end of the day, my wife and kids tell me that they love me and I know that they mean it. I know that my children will grow up to love the Lord, their families and their friends. If I died today, I know that I am in debt to no man, that I have no unresolved disputes or let anything important go unsaid. Even if I were to die this afternoon, I know that I would be missed. I hope that the Lord says, "Good Job". And, I hope they have Friday morning coffee in Heaven.

  25. Yeah, I've not seen the one I really like in a while. I think it's rated 115 lumens. There's a big lots not too far away. I'll check them out. Truth is, I'm a bit of a flashlight junkie. I really don't need to buy more lights.
