  1. It's pretty stable. Once you get your legs under you, you can jump up and down on it. I'm an active canoeist and kayaker, and still busted my share of times out in the waves.
  2. Yep. A great big surf board with lots of flotation. I can ride on it with a couple of kids or my dog.
  3. I fish from a stand up paddle board a lot. It's good simple fun. You can get a lot of places other boats cannot.
  4. When I was first married, I travelled 50 weeks a year. It's hard. After about two years, I made a move and started my own firm. It was tough starting out, but 7 years later I can definitely say it was the best decision for our family. We'll keep your family in our prayers.
  5. They're completely legal. You could even make it, shoot it for a while and then decide you want to sell it. So long as you aren't mass producing them for sale, there's no issue. The thing I like about the Select Fire receivers is their quality. Put one next to a cast factory receiver, and you'd choose the billet machined 80% one every time. For anyone who wants to do it, I've got all the bits you'd need and a drilling jig that makes it almost foolproof. I'd be happy to loan them out to anyone who wants to try it
  6. I've got a Kidd bolt, too which ships with light, medium and heavy springs. With the medium or heavy spring installed I don't get much. It seems to slow it down enough to make the difference. I'd like to try one of the toggle bolts, though. I like the capacity of a 10/22, but have no issue with being required to actuate the bolt.
  7. Let me know if you want to meet up and shoot one of these days. I'm happy to bring the 10/22 I did from an 80% receiver last year specifically to shoot suppressed SSS's, and I'm also glad to pull my Kidd trigger if you'd like to try it on your rig. Gordon and I talked about a project I'm contemplating the other day. I've got a couple of projects in front of it, but I'd like to build out another 80% receiver in .22WMR but experiment with making the equivalent of a SSS round in .22WMR. I'd have to talk to David about bullet choices, and expect I might even have to make my own mold. But, it has potential to be a lot of fun. I'm really interested to see how you like that toggle bolt. Edit: adding this so I can find it later - http://www.gun-tests.com/performance/apr96reloading.html
  8. This really surprises me out of one of the Talo models, though this isn't the first report I've heard of the flaking. Seems like they would make good on it, though. Since their whole business is built around their customizations, it doesn't serve them well to have substandard parts out there.
  9. Yep. And most of them still are.
  10. Kidd trigger group is the best out there. Hands down. I've got a 8oz./1lb that's adjustable down to 3oz./6oz. Even at 1lb, it seems like after you take up the first stage, all it requires is a thought to fire the weapon. Tony makes the only trigger I'll use in a 10/22. I'm excited about that action. Be sure to post a review.
  11. One thing remains consistent about the DNC...They've yet to meet a sure thing they can't screw up. Maybe we have hope, yet.
  12. My kids were getting ready for bed tonight as I read this the first time. My oldest daughter, who is five asked me what was making me sad, and we talked about your niece. I can't even fathom losing one of my children. Life is so fragile...
  13. Gordon, I'm so sorry to hear this. This world is broken and unfair. But, I'll pray that your family will be surrounded by people who love you and that can prop you guys up in this time of darkness. If there is anything that I can do individually, or we can do as a group, please let me know.
  14. Keep us updated on your progress. I'm sure there are some others in here who would like to see what you come up with.
  15. Doesn't intuit have a hosted solution. I have kind of a love/mostly hate relationship with quickbooks, but in your case, this might be a good fit.
  16. That looks great, Mike! And Craig, you made me laugh. People might call you a lot of things, but I bet "purist" is down towards the bottom of the list.
  17. Well...Obama has finally done the GOP a favor. With one statement he's done more for "getting conservatives behind Romney" than the whole GOP establishment has been able to muster combined. It's a gutsy, kind of expected move on Obama's part that I expect will have little affect come November. Despite maybe getting a portion of his base fired up, he's failing to realize that for the American public, this election is about the economy. Period. Hopefully Romney is smarter than to swing at this pitch. While I won't believe that until I see it, this is one way that we're better off with Romney than Santorum. Santorum couldn't have resisted this one, and it wouldn't have worked out well for him.
  18. With a name like MacGyver, frankly I'm lucky I made it to 18 without blowing my own nuts off. Reminds me of an old vasectomy billboard that was on 285 in Atlanta when I was a kid. It read, "Sure, it's not any fun to think about, but think of the fun you'll have showing off the scar."
  19. Yeah, but he's going to use a sharp rock!
  20. Man, Gordon. We'll keep you in our prayers.
  21. So I went through BNA this morning on my way up to Cleveland. Noticed several of the Honor Flight guys, and thought, "cool, I'll get to pay my respects." Imagine my surprise when I went through TSA to see the "secondary screening" area completely jam packed with sailors and airmen all in their Class A's getting the full treatment from the TSA. These were service members escorting the Honor Flight guys. It made me so mad I wanted to spit. I mean, really? The worst part of this jobs program disguised as security theater is that they really take themselves this seriously.
  22. I drink "French Market" brand coffee that I get at Publix. I really enjoy a coffee/chicory blend, though I like all kinds of coffee. One thing about chicory, is it will really stretch your coffee. I do an over pour through a single cup filter most mornings, as I'm the only one in our house who drinks it. I use a third to a half of the volume of grounds I would use with normal ground coffee. If I make it with two teaspoons of grounds like you'd use with regular coffee, it's so strong and dark that it'll literally stain a white ceramic coffee cup. Incidentally, though it's lower in caffeine.
  23. There's not a faster auto on the market than a ProTech. And, they're American owned and made. So many automatics really fail to live up to expectations. There are probably several reasons for that, some legitimate and some not. Regardless, I've never has that experience with a ProTech.
  24. Every last one of them is the same. Republican or Democrat, it doesn't matter. They're all bought and paid for; they just serve different masters. Either party in this zero sum game will drive our country straight to the gates of hell. It'll just take the GOP a little longer to get there. Until "we the people" throw every last one of them out on their ass and replace them with people who actually represent their given constituencies, we're all equally doomed. Romney and Obama are different flavors of the same thing. I'll hold my nose and vote for Romney because I prefer the scenic route to the cliff as opposed to a brick on the accelerator. I don't think Paul will be a spoiler. While I respect that he's stuck to his guns for as long as he has, I don't think he's ever really been prepared to be anything but the voice of dissent.
  25. Here's an interesting oral history piece done by UT a couple of years ago with one of the participants of the McMinn County War: http://web.utk.edu/~csws/interviews/white.pdf His account starts about page 18 or so.
