Here's one installed by the factory at AAC. Does it look different than this:

300 Blackout as a "End of Times" caliber
MacGyver replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Survival and Preparedness
When I got my 9" AAC 1:8 upper, I planned on shooting heavy stuff exclusively. But, I've shot enough 110gr and 125gr stuff now that I'm getting pretty comfortable with the lighter stuff. I've yet to have the chance to really stretch it's legs, but have been plenty impressed at shorter ranges. -
I've got an uncle in South Georgia where they just changed the law to allow for taking deer over bait. He's been a long time outdoorsman, and I asked him about whether he was going to try putting out bait. He replied, "No, you know I hunt in the swamps. If I put out corn, I'll have fence around it to keep the hogs out, and once you've got hogs, you've got to worry about gators when you're trying to get to your stand. It's just not worth it."
While you're pushing weird things thru your gun, these might be fun to play with. They weigh 30 grains more than a piece of 00, but are still downright cute... http://www.midwayusa.com/product/142182/hornady-bullets-30-caliber-308-diameter-86-grain-round-nose-soft-point-box-of-100
I saw some of those out at Bass Pro the other day. I had the same thought. They might prove effective on game within a reasonable range. -
Best moderately priced weapon light??

Good to hear. -
Interesting concept. Did you ever read about the air rifle or Lewis and Clark expedition? http://www.lewisandc...lewisairgun.htm
Being caught with a Girandoni rifle in the Napoleonic Wars was a crime punishable immediately by death.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRWqwnx0xuU Don't forget the Christopher Stevens didn't die at some unknown point during the attack. He died of smoke inhalation on the way to the hospital after he was pulled out of the rubble by Libyans. Any competent response could have made a difference. The people in this video aren't people "protesting" and celebrating his death. These are friends...Libyans, who are rejoicing when they find him alive. Their comments, roughly - "Allahu akbar he's alive" "He's alive!" "Move out of the way!" "Make way for him!" "He's alive, take him to my car." The biggest problem is that this detracts from what the administration wants us to believe, namely that the "War on Terror" is over. That this president ended this wars. That the Ft. Hood massacre was an act of "workplace violence" not terrorism. I get it that we have a population that wants to be done with this. None of us want to be at war. But, hopes and dreams don't bring change by themselves. Hard work does. There is one side that is clearly still committed to this fight. Refusing to recognize that will only come back to haunt us later. And, it fails to respect the 2,977 Americans who gave their lives on September 11, the 6,600+ American soldiers who have given their lives thus far, and the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi and Afghan citizens on whom this has had a major impact.

That's funny.

I'm coming around to this same school of thought. -
Yep. Hard to get one of those off without leaving some hair behind. As to other enemies of prints: Heat - especially a lot of heat cycles and surface porosity are both big variables that can affect things. Think about the grip on your weapon - it's not an ideal surface for lifting a print. Then, there's the natural breakdown of the oils that make up the print. There's a natural acidity there - that's why fingerprints were so bad to classically blued weapons.
-
That's awesome. Congratulations!

Will keep you guys in our prayers.

Those Audi's are tough to figure out
-
As a forensics professional, unless they were to shoot someone with immediately after you handled it, there simply isn't going to be enough of a print left to be an issue. Fingerprints have many enemies besides being wiped off with something. They degrade naturally in the air as well. The usable lifespan of a fingerprint, even in ideal conditions is actually pretty short.

That looks like a deal you can't refuse! A good opportunity to run some good ammo.

Potential Self-Defense Law Seminar -No Cost

I'd be interested. -
The problem with this whole thing is it isn't really the law. It's not like they have to get this read into the Federal Register. It's been "once a rifle - always a rifle" for decades. Now, they're saying differently. They can go back next week if they want with no real reprocussions.

I like buried conex containers, period. Problem is I can't say that just anywhere

You're going to have some issues getting a storage building to pass an inspection. It can certainly be done, just know that you're going to need to plan for some accomodations advance. At the same time, there are some architects doing some pretty cool stuff these days. If you're committed to small and simple, you've got a lot of options available to you.

Yeah. You need something with some ability to absorb sound. Shipping containers, as a general rule seal up pretty well. You don't need a lot to condition them once they're insulated, so you won't have much noise from HVAC to drown out other sounds. I remember having to unplug a charger all the way across a container once because I could hear the transformer hum as I was trying to sleep. I've slept in one with a wood burning stove. In the winter months when it was in the teens outside, one log, started in the early evening would keep it comfortably warm all night. Try to burn two logs and it would run you out of there in short order.

Leory, I'm guessing this is more a matter of, "keep your mouth shut and we'll let you retire quietly and collect your pension." They had enough guts to take actions they likely knew would result in these consequences. Let's hope they don't back down now. -
As someone who has spent more than his fair share of time sleeping in one, they're fine so long as no one is snoring.

FEMA Making Preparations To Postpone Presidential Elections?
MacGyver replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I don't know that people need to worry about postponing the election. Congress is the group with that authority, and I don't see them coming back to Washington between now and Election Day to get that done. If you want to worry about something, worry about the allowances made to the states to "remedy" any "emergencies or disputes" between next Tuesday and the Electoral College meeting in December.
