The Sequester has hit close to home.
MacGyver replied to Randall53's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I think it only applies to GI Bil students, but once someone is drawing those benefits, they should take a look at Lipscomb's Yellow Ribbon program. They match 100% of GI Bill benefits to make tuition at Lipscomb completely free. It's a cool program: http://www.lipscomb.edu/campuslife/veterans -
Hey, congratulations! I know that's a big stress removed.

16# was standard.

It's a good knife, but I can't talk myself into buying another Ontario RAT since Jeff and Mike parted ways with them over quality/sourcing concerns.

Looking for first formal training experience.
MacGyver replied to pattywak's topic in Training Discussions
If you've never had formal training, I'd definitely suggest a two-day type class to get started. There is certainly a cost difference, but it's worth it. You will be exposed to more than you can possibly absorb during the first few hours of that first day - regardless of whether it's a one or two day class. Having the soak time of that evening lets you come back that second day really ready to work again. -
You can substitute a pillow case in a pinch. Just make sure you use a scent blocker and don't tell your wife.

TSA allows knives on planes... what to buy?
MacGyver replied to jgradyc's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
I'd suggest one that you don't mind having confiscated... Noted in the text regarding the "relaxation" of the rules is that it's up to individual TSA "agents" and they still have full power to confiscate anything they think is scary. -
Just to add some clarity onto why we need 30-round magazines - these things are going to be damn hard to kill when the turn them on us ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pp89tTDxXuI&feature=player_embedded Imagine just dumping these over a battlefield - a drone equipped take on leaflet bombing. Picture these equipped with pneumatically fired nerve darts or similar. They're all talking to each other, and are coming for you... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lCUGPixEnk

Agreed. And, just to be clear I would have the same problem with this if Mitt Romney had won the election. When you start with the proposition, as I do, that as a general rule our federal government is incapable of creating value - then they must continue to draw their power from somewhere. At some point, they will either result to taking it wholesale from a free people, or taking it in parts by criminalizing behaviors of groups they don't like. You can't put Pandora back in the box. We're going to see the use of drones over civilian airspace - even though I think there are some interesting Posse Comitatus questions there. The problem I have with it is that it simply knocks down one more barrier to having armed drones overhead. It's not like you really need a drone to keep up with most people, though . If the government decided they wanted a person gone, most phones these days would get a JDAM within a few meters...

Seeing a lot of the tech as it's developed, I think we're at the very edge of a new era. When it comes to drones, there are a lot of hard questions that need to be asked. I applaud Paul, Cruz and Wyden for asking a question publically. I hope they keep the pressure on the administration. You can't stop innovation (though the government has done a huge amount since September 11, 2001 to discourage it). As an engineer, I live to innovate. New technology, new processes and new value are exciting to me. But, technology always has to be balanced with morality. And, morality evolves a lot more slowly than technology. Our law enforcement agencies are already chomping a the bit to employ drones. Law enforcement here in Middle Tennessee can't wait to turn them loose. And it should be noted that drones won't be used solely by the government. Private companies are looking to use them as well. Note that the article I referenced above talks about air guardsmen using their new skills in the private space. The questions surrounding drone use are hard questions. We need to wrestle with them. It's important for us as humanity. It's not like this is a particularly new debate, though. Call Captain Kirk a prophet before his time. The turduckens from Hebert's in Houston are pretty good. Surely this lady is joking. It's cool to watch the butchers at Hebert's work. They debone a chicken and put it in a deboned duck, that then goes into - you guessed it - a deboned turkey. Put a little aligator dressing in there and it all cooks up wonderfully. The oil from the duck keeps the turkey moist. Those butchers debone those birds faster than anyone I've ever seen. I could watch them work all afternoon... http://www.hebertsmeats.com/turduckens.asp

Im not sure if they'll have dance parties in hell, but if they do, I'm pretty sure that this will be on the mix tape: http://soundcloud.com/pomdeterrific/pomdeter-call-me-a-hole http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yArRnznVJwY

The 642 has a clear coat you'd have to strip, but I don't see any reason it couldn't be anodized.

For the citizens of Colorado sake, I hope sanity prevails in the end, and Magpul isn't forced into a move.

Nothing like flipping off the man as you leave. I bet the simple act of putting that press release together felt great! Way to go, Magpul!

TGO Keep Calm And Carry On Decals ... Pre-Order Thread
MacGyver replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
I'd definitely be in for some 2x3s. -
I'd call those OD as well. That sad, this crazy market is primed for grey market Chinese knockoffs.

It really doesn't have anything to do with screwing with sites for the heck of it anymore - at least very rarely. It has all to do with organized criminal groups serving unsuspecting visitors to a site keystroke loggers and the like that can later be used to commit identity theft/steal from you and/or make your computer their unwitting zombie to be used in spam, DDOS attacks and other stuff like that. The days of the Kevin Mitnick "let's see if I can get in for the heck of it" types are unfortunately long gone.

I don't think they accept public visitors these days.
