It creeped me out as a kid.

A lot of them will jump when you shoot them, too. It's like a bizarre whack-a-mole or something.
-
I think you've got to fill out a form and let the man know when you move them permanently, but it shouldn't present much of a hurdle so long as your new state of residence is okay with you having them.

We did look for one in Memphis. Your guy still had his FFL address listed as a residential address, and we just weren't comfortable sending our members to someone's house that we don't have any prior relationship with. For that matter, we really looked for FFLs in Johnson City, Jackson and Chattanooga, too. You'd think that having a bunch of new customers coming into their shop and maybe buying something would be attractive. Our vendors jumped at the chance to participate. Everyone else looked at us like we were crazy. I guess they just didn't want the administrative overhead of having to add the stuff to their books. It was kind of crazy to me, though. I run a small business. I'm not really in the mindset of turning away people who want to give me money.

It's enough that I think it's distracting to the overall experience on the site. We've been thinking about trying to find a way to remove the Current Events and Politics section from the "New Content" feed. It would still exist as a sub forum, but you'd actually have to choose to go there and participate. Kind of a way to keep it for people who want to talk about it, but keep the 25 newest posts from being half taken by political stuff. I don't have a problem with the political stuff, and to some extent it transcends our guns in importance of stuff we should care about. But, this is a site for Tennessee gun owners. I can discuss politics anywhere.

If you're seeing your name in the top right corner of the screen indicating that you are in fact successfully logged in, shoot me a note with the email you used and we'll get CMT to make sure it's fixed.
-
Mac makes a good point. Some of the political posts on here of late make your crazy uncle on Facebook look positively rational by comparison. We've got enough problems. Let's focus on those instead of creating new ones.

We're going to gold plate yours. 24K. It's gonna be real nice...

We thought about doing polymer lowers for the group buy, but we couldn't find anyone to make us the TGO branding iron we'd need to put our logo on them :)
-
I think it's just an interesting indicator of the times we live in - that there are plenty of people who think their AR cobbled together from whatever random gun show/junk bin assortment of parts is every bit the quality of your Noveske, Larue or LMT. Prices in the classified over the last year have shown it. I guess it shouldn't surprise me that their thinking carries over to stuff like this as well. When we first started talking about the group buy, a 6061 billet lower was hard to find at $120 - or even double that. Once CMT stepped in, some of the demand had eased, but a 7075 billet lower at $120 is still an insanely good price. There are some people who you just can't make happy. Their loss.
-
It's kind of expected in something like this. Part of the reason may be that we chose a top shelf billet upper, too. If I told you guys how many, "I could buy 4 New Frontier Armory Polymer lowers for the cost of one of these" PMs I've gotten over the last month, you wouldn't believe it. I know the shutdown has affected a few folks, too.

I'm not sure, but we'll be happy to share once it's finalized. As of today, I think about 40% of the people who created accounts over at CMT and "firmly committed" in the last thread have ordered. The numbers are always hard to estimate until people actually step up and place orders.
-
Yep. Orders close end of business on Sunday. No, but this ought to be a really enlightening thread for folks to watch. These things definitely don't come off the machine magically ready to snap together.
-
That's awesome!

Yes, unfortunately I have separated my weapons. Our family likes to shoot, and we have firearms that fill that "sporting purpose". We have weapons that are for the defense of myself, my wife and our children, and those are driven by an entirely different set of considerations. My wife falls into your school. I wouldn't want to get between her and the Benelli. We all make choices...

CMT was kind enough to send us some pictures of the receivers in process this morning. Thought you guys would enjoy some progress pictures:

There are trade offs to the pistol upper, but they've got a lot going for them, too. Shooting a rifle caliber inside an enclosed area like a house is a truly deafening experience - especially all the SBRs that people build for their perceived "maneuverability" needs. Not to mention trying to shoot in the middle of the night, half awake with no ear protection. I love my DDLES lower that takes Glock magazines. I never run into a twinkie, twinkie, cupcake situation with my magazines. If it'll fit the pistol inside the house, it'll fit the rifle inside the house. You don't get nearly the energy transfer that you would with a rifle round. But, we all make choices. Mine just happen to lean towards suppressed 147gr HSTs with low flash powder.

I've had a song in my head all day, and just realized it was because I looked at this thread this morning. I can't hear the word creosote without thinking about riding around in my dad's MGB wagon as a kid listening to Jimmy Buffett's A1A on 8 track. "I remember the smell of the creosote plant when we'd have to eat on Easter with my crazy old uncle and aunt..."

Just a quick reminder that the Group Buy will be closed at the end of the day on the 20th. We've had about half of the members that expressed interest and created accounts actually place orders. If you've not gotten your order in over at CMT, you need to do the following: Login over at http://CMTTactical.com with the credentials you created a few weeks ago Look for the TGO section of the store You'll see the TGO Lowers, TGO Uppers and M16 Bolt Carrier Groups. (Note that for lowers, you must select an FFL before you can add it to your cart) You may purchase up to two (2) of any of the above CMT sent me a note today saying that they are in production. I'm looking forward to posting some pictures in the next day or so!

If ever there was a varmint for which the .17HMR was designed, it's the armadillo. Those ballistic tips versus their hard shell and soft guts...bleh.
