  1. The house voted to extend the ban on plastic guns another 10 years today.  "Without significant opposition, the house did not record members' votes."   http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2013/12/03/house-plastic-gun-bill-vote/3855281/   I love the belief that you can somehow jam Pandora back into his box.
  2. On the subject of Crème Brulee, my new favorite - from Garden & Gun:     Krispy Krème Brûlée Recipe   Ingredients: 6 Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts 1 pint half-and-half 1 quart heavy cream 12 egg yolks 1½ cups sugar 8 packets Sugar in the Raw   Preparation: Puree the doughnuts and half-and-half in a blender until smooth. Combine the heavy cream with the half-and-half/doughnut puree, and heat until scalding (just before boiling). Meanwhile whisk the egg yolks and sugar in a bowl to combine and dissolve the sugar. Once the sugar is dissolved, temper the yolk mixture by whisking in a small amount of the hot cream mixture. Once the yolks are tempered, whisk them into the remaining cream mixture. Strain the brûlée base through a fine mesh strainer.   Divide the mixture into eight ramekins. Fill until nearly full, and bake in a water bath at 325 degrees for approximately 30 minutes or until the custards are set when gently shaken. (Tip: For the water bath, we used a large metal roasting pan and filled it with enough water to meet the halfway-point of the ramekins.) Once set, remove the ramekins from the water bath to cool.  After cooling, dust the top of each with Sugar in the Raw, and caramelize evenly with a kitchen torch or under the broiler until the sugar darkens and bubbles. Set aside to cool (2 to 5 minutes) before serving. This will allow the sugar to harden on top.   http://gardenandgun.com/article/krispy-kreme-creme-brulee
  3. I saw this morning where they've closed the crash site due to people doing stupid stuff in tribute:   http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2013/12/03/fans-told-to-stop-burning-rubber-near-site-paul-walker-fatal-crash/
  4. Considering BCM is like a drug dealer to AR guys, they might have known you were new and thus made sure to give you a little extra up front to get you hooked...
  5. So I didn't get Tanker's note last week due to inconsistencies in the way Tapatalk handles PMs.  As such, we could use an extra participant or two if anyone's interested.  If anyone is interested and hasn't sent me their address yet, send it today and I'll send out names at 1700CST this afternoon.   I'll even open this up to people who are already on the list.  If you want another name - and thus another person getting your name - let me know today.
  6. Hold on.  I'll resend yours.
  7. If you want to talk practicalities and the reality of the new crop of "professional degrees" with a person who teaches in one on a fairly regular basis, shoot me a note.   I'd be happy to talk it over with you.
  8. I'd be fine with a more discretionary model as well.    Run as many terms as you like.  But, if after two terms you lose an election, you're to report directly to the nearest Federal penitentiary to begin serving your sentence for corruption.
  9. I think we ought to quit withholding payroll taxes. Make everyone write one check on April 15th and then immediately follow it with Election Day on April 16. Term limits would be a self-correcting problem.
  10. I'm planning on going in the morning. It's at Chillowee, right?
  11. Looking forward to seeing a Knoxville show and some of you guys tomorrow.
  12. I've always made the choice not to participate in the madness on Black Friday. Opening stores on Thanksgiving night really makes me pretty mad. I've got three reasons for not participating: 1. It's a holiday about giving thanks, not about pacifying our appetite for endless consumption with a bunch of junk we don't really need. 2. I don't want to be part of the reason that somebody has to skip Thanksgiving with their family. 3. I don't want my last thought in this world to be, "I can't believe I'm being trampled to death in the Walmart."
  13. I enjoyed reading earlier this year about hog killings down in Louisiana.  Hog killing was a community event, black and white, wealthy and poor alike - everyone benefitted.  The temperature meant you had to work fast, and every last piece of the hog was used for something.
  14. We always freeze our broth.  Canning always seems like a good idea, but we never seem to let it sit around long enough to need to contemplate that option.
  15. I've shot a suppressed variant in .45acp.    It was a nice shooting rifle.  Seems like it was still kind of limited in capacity, though.
  16. Send it anytime between now and Christmas.
  17. I sent PM's to everyone who sent me a PM with their name and address to pass on to their secret Santa.  If you didn't get a PM, it was because I don't have your name and address.   I'll tell you what.  Anyone who didn't get a name, but wanted one,  PM me with your name and address before the end of the day on Wednesday.  I'll send names to any holdouts after that.
  18. $25ish.   Everyone who sent me their information should have a name at this point.
  19. Joining should work now for lifetime benefactors.  I'll have to look at group creation.
  20. This is still the expectation.
  21. Alexander and Corker have the business money in Tennessee as long as they want it, and that's going to be a big hurdle for any challenger to overcome.  Their constituency at the end of the day is the money that elected them.   I won't pull the lever for either of them again.  Period.
  22. Yeah, I'm squared away on pseudo randomizing a list.  Data normalization from dozens of people and notifying everyone isn't nearly as seamless.
  23. Trying to get everyone matched up and sent out by this weekend.  Turns out there's no easy way to automate it.
  24. Cooler heads on both sides of the aisle have prevailed for a long time on the so called "nuclear rule."  This really is an indication that things are going off the rails.   It was 52-48 with three democrats joining all 45 republicans in dissent.  When they're moaning about it a couple of years from now, someone needs to remind them that they passed it straight along party lines.
  25. It's a sensational story from a viral video about a probable non-event with no actual proof of it occurring anywhere outside of the video.
