  1. And, the old maxim is probably going to apply here:   If you want something done right, you're going to have to learn to do it yourself.
  2. I would not call myself a connoisseur of haute cuisine.  I like a good dive about the same as a white table cloth.  Maybe it's my general dislike for anything between those two, but for the life of me, I cannot recall ever having seen chicken livers on a salad bar.
  3. The FBI reported numbers on 4473s tell a different story. They indicate that one in four guns in America have been sold in the last 6 years.
  4. What have you been doing with that 101, planting tulips? ;)
  5. Walmart will sell whatever the public wants to buy. People want ARs. That's about as deep as their policy is going to go.
  6. My wife had a good experience with all four sides of the family. She monitored her usage, stuck to a schedule and canceled when she was done. She felt like she got her money's worth.
  7. That looks great, Greg! I know that you're proud, and he's got a memory that he'll always keep.
  8. I think I've owned just about every .380 made - pre and post the modern pocket rocket era. The P238 is a faithful update of the Mustang. That said, it's worth holding one and shooting it before you buy one. If it doesn't fit your hand, you're not going to be happy with it. The Kimber isn't a bad little pistol, either. I don't know that it would find its way to the top of my list, though. It's hard to argue with how the LCP just disappears in a pocket. For me, when I go out to shoot .380, more often than not I reach for my old Sig P230. It's never once disappointed me.
  9. Maybe you could buy him a nice holster and some more modern ammo?  Or, offer to let him borrow one for his trip.
  10. Go to Lowe's. Pick a color that you like. See if it's on sale. Call it a day.
  11. I couldn't find any real compelling reason to do a longer barrel on the 9mm.  In my mind, it ought to be a pistol or SBR.
  12. I put my upper together myself for exactly this reason.  I couldn't find what I wanted.   I'm running a custom 9-3/4" barrel by ADCO to ensure that my suppressor mounts up appropriately with the KAC URXIII rail.  I modified my bolt myself - but that's not a step I'd recommend without a milling machine.  I'd probably just send the bolt to someone like ADCO to get it done.
  13. If you'd like a lower signature, but completely capable "tactical" pen, try the $5 steel Zebra F701. It's as capable as any of the mostly gimmicky offerings by S&W and the like. It writes a lot better. And, you probably won't cry if you lose it.
  14. I like my first one so much that I've got two of the original HEST fixed blades. They're great little knives!
  15. Oak Hill has an additional requirement. You have to get a signed note from the Lord himself to have any hope of getting anything done.
  16. That's why I'd go with a Browning.
  17. Were it me, I'd look to an older Belgian made Browning.     There are a lot of clones out there - and good ones at that - but a hi-power is an heirloom quality pistol.  I'd go for a good one.   That said, FN makes a great variant.  If you're looking for a more budget friendly option, some FEGs can be had around $300.
  18. Unfortunately, as Americans we're going to have to go through some dark times before we get an internet that's truly open.   Enfield's right.  The first impact most Americans will notice will be the new fees that suddenly appear on their bill.  You're about to be paying for all kinds of stuff.
  19. There's never been a better single action 9mm than the Hi-Power.  A serviceable weapon for carry, and fun at the range all rolled into one.   I'd start there.
  20. Y'all be careful using welder's gloves. They're meant for momentary contact - not handling. They'll keep your hands nice and cool right up to the point where you get third degree burns. Once they heat up, you won't be able to get them off fast enough.
  21. It's $100 less than it was when it started. It's a nice semi auto trigger. As for the assisted mode, were it me, I'd just invest the time into learning to run an SSA-E.
  22. Sometimes, letting a mag hit the ground is a good thing.  It was only by dropping my mags that I learned that my Walther P99 mags had a tendency to turn into HK mags when dropped with any rounds still in the magazine.  I don't know what causes it, but I've got several magazines for the weapon, and they all exhibit the same tendency.  Drop a mag with 4 or 5 rounds still in it, and when you pick it up, about 50% of the time, the top round will be turned around backwards.  It's like a bad magic trick, but a behavior that I'm sure glad to know about.
  23. I've let a whole lot of Wilson Combat mags hit the dirt - and dropped more than a few in the mud.  Disassembled, thrown in the ultrasonic cleaner, lubed and reassembled, and you'd never know.   I generally consider magazines consumable-type equipment with a limited lifespan, but a good 1911 mag ought to last a long time.
  24. My kids just got a sixth day out of school. I'm pretty sure my wife would sell them about now if a circus train came along.
  25. Hydrogen is kind of like corn right now. It takes more energy to get it into a usable form as fuel than you get out. Hence Enfield's battery comment. You're storing energy to be used later, and physics still applies. Fuel cells are neat tech, but there's a lot in the way of wide scale adoption.
