  1. And, I'll extend my offer as above.  Any time you want to go eat some hot chicken, let me know.  DLM and I love to go eat some Prince's.  I know your work schedule may make getting away at lunchtime an issue, but let me know and we'll go.
  2. If you're going to Prince's, that's it.   Fried chicken, white bread and a few sides - their coleslaw is pretty good and mitigates some of the heat.  I don't know that I've ever eaten their beans.   It's cash only.  Drinks are generally via a coke machine by the register.
  3. Start capacitors will fail over time.   The bigger issue on fixing them is whether or not the user actually knows what they're doing.  Big capacitors have the capacity to kill you.
  4. There was a place in Seattle when I was in school out there called Dixe's Barbecue.  It was in an old garage, and they had a sauce called The Man.  I swear it was nothing but ribs and seeds of a bunch of different kinds of peppers.  It was hot.   The great part about it was the owner would yell at people to finish it if they ordered it on their sandwich.
  5. When you get over this way some time, shoot me a note.  I'll grab Richard and we'll go over to Prince's.  If you're going to eat one, it should be the original.
  6. Y'all we're reall lucky to have vendors like Mike on the forum. He's great to deal with, and threads like this are proof of that. We're really lucky to have a few vendors who earn their great reputation every day. I'd love to see some of our stores follow their examples.
  7. There are a lot of us who are really wondering about the depth of the motivations behind the most recent MITM SuperFish engine that came installed on the Lenovo machines.  Just make sure you give it a good scrubbing first.   I guess that goes for pretty much all of them these days.   I just made the switch to a MacBook after 35 years of being a PC guy.  After about 3 months in the environment, I'm not sure I'll consume Windows except through a VMWare environment again.  It's nice to be able to have a fresh image, load that image, do your work and start clean again next time.  I remain a big Microsoft believer, but virtualization in your personal computing consumption has a lot going for it.
  8. Depends on how you define 'registration'.   Officially, there is no registration of firearms in the state of Tennessee.  That said, you fill out a form 4473 whenever you buy a new weapon from a dealer.     In this post-Snowden world, I wouldn't be willing to bet that all of that data isn't getting sucked up into multiple big-government databases.
  9. Agreed.  This isn't going to do much for you and me - or any of us for that matter.   And what kid who's just getting their permit has either the foresight or the $750 to take advantage of this?
  10. So, WPLN is reporting this morning that a "lifetime permit" bill was one of the few that passed out of committee yesterday.   Pay $750 and you don't have to go down to the DMV, wait and pay $50 every 5 years.   It's kind of humorous that the one they allow through is the one that makes them some money right now...   http://nashvillepublicradio.org/post/handgun-carriers-tennessee-could-get-lifetime-permits   I don't like shaking people down for more money to practice their Constitutional rights in principle, but I can see the dollar signs in the legislature's eyes.
  11. Love that!
  12. My dad retired a year or so ago, and one of the first things he did when he retired was to fly over to Norway to see the lights.  As I recall, he flew into Trondheim, took a train up to Tromsø, and then got on a ferry and went by boat something like 800 miles north of the Arctic Circle to see the lights.  The pictures they brought back were amazing.   He's been looking for an opportunity to go back since.
  13. We've got way too much light pollution here in Nashville, but those of you further out ought to check out the Aurora Borealis tonight. It's a rare solar storm that will allow them to be visible this far south: http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2015/03/17/northern_lights_aurora_borealis_across_america_best_chance_to_see_in_a_decade.html http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/news/g4-severe-geomagnetic-storm-observed Pretty cool!
  14. The primary owner of the new Loveless is Tom Morales, who among other things owns a local catering business.  He also owns Saffire and The Southern Steak & Oyster mentioned above.   I'm pulling for them, if for no other reason than we need more non-chain restaurants.  The Loveless has changed hands several times over the years.  I'm sure there was all kinds of heartache when they started their mail order Hams & Jams business back in the '80s as well.  I guess it's normal to look back on the old days with a sort of nostalgia, but the Loveless has changed just like Nashville has over the years.   Their preserves are great.  My kids can eat their weight in biscuits with preserves and molasses there.  Their redeye gravy is the closest reminder of my grandfather's that I've had.  While I may miss the old days, you'll certainly have a more hygienic experience these days.
  15. I miss the days at Loveless when you could look through the swinging doors of the kitchen and see the cook smoking.  I don't think I ever went there in the '90's where that wasn't the case.   Yeah, it's worth it if you're planning on hitting the Natchez Trace - their country ham and redeye gravy are both great.  But, it's expensive, posted, and but a shadow of its former self.  The new owner(s if you count the investors) seem to be committed to it, but time will tell.   The Southern serves a legit breakfast- assuming you can level set yourself to spending $50 on breakfast.     Edley's Barbecue in 12 South has started a pretty decent breakfast of late.  Cornbread based french toast is surprisingly good.
  16. They may be a bunch of hippies, but their curried chicken and fruit tea are awfully good.   That said, if I'm in that neighborhood, I'm going to Baja Burrito.  Tampico pork or brisket burrito...mmm.
  17. Really?  My wife ate at the 100 Oaks location just last week?
  18. If I'm going for hot chicken, I'm going to Prince's. Served with attitude and community, the way it should be. If I'm going to Bolton's, then I'm getting a fish sandwich.
  19. In other news, Generalissimo Francisco Frano is still dead...
  20. He's hanging out with Yasser Arafat while recuperating in an undisclosed Paris hospital...
  21. What time is dinner? Sounds great!
  22. Man, I've got heartburn just reading this thread.  I'm going to have to go find the Tums.   I've got some specific goals later this year, and my eating reflects those goals right now.  That said, my current daily snack is Stonyfield Petite Creme yogurt.  It may be yogurt perfection
  23. Once you buy a suppressor, it will affect every other firearm purchase you make.  If you think you might shoot 300WM, I'd go with the one that can handle it to start.
  24. It must take a mess of squirrels to make a plate of livers.
  25. I love the 1897, but Caster is right.  They call it the thumb buster for a reason.  Hold it incorrectly, and you'll never forget the lesson it teaches you.
