Between this and the Adult Friend Finder breach earlier this year, hackers may be sitting on some valuable data. Unlike your typical retail breach which may provide a credit card number that is worth a dollar or two, these sites contain personal details that can be used for blackmail. Assuming some overlap in their datasets, they've got data on approximately 10% of the population. How many people with security clearances do you think are in there? How about elected officials with access to sensitive information? While this may seem like simple revenge on its merits, there's a lot more to this one. All the same, though - I bet a lot of people are sweating right now - for a lot of reasons. Figure this, too. 10% is a big number and data sets like this are generally representative of the population at large - accounting for some duplicate accounts. Even so, you can figure they've got the data on 2000-2500 TGO members.

Odd name for a tactical training company. I'm always a little bit suspicious of companies that promote themselves in this particular manner. That said, I've never heard of them - and in theory they're right up the street.

A storage unit is going to be your friend. Get as much as your stuff out of there as you can. People want to picture themselves in your house - not themselves and all of their stuff packed wall to wall.

A good realtor is worth their money. Note that "a good realtor" is likely different than your friend from church or family member who is a realtor.

I used a home equity loan to finance about $9500 worth of updates to our house before we sold it a few years ago - wood floors, new carpet in bedrooms, updating a bathroom. I'm certain that those improvements made our house sell for about $30k more than it would have otherwise at the time. The market was just starting to turn, and our improvements ensured that the buyer would simply be able to move in. We paid it off in full at closing. I'd do it again.

Treating prisoners humanely is more about us than it is them. It is natural to act out in anger and treat a prisoner aggressively. It may even offer some short term tactical gain. But, its cost to us is far higher than we're able to recognize at the time. This is certainly part of the reasoning behind the prohibitions in the USMJ. It's not until later - when you have to look in the mirror - when you can't get the demons out of your head - when you can't close your eyes without revisiting it that you'll realize the full magnanimity of the action. They'll label you with PTSD - a "disorder" that is in fact a natural response to traumatic action. They'll give you all kinds of drugs to help you forget - or at least not care as much that you can't forget. None of the people around you will understand what you're going through. They'll hope that you'll get better with time. You'll hope that you can simply make it through one more day. Lord knows that we've lost too many of our soldiers to this fight back here on US soil. We don't understand post-traumatic stress, and as such do a woeful disservice to our troops by not getting them the resources they need. The military needs to do a better job, and all of our individual communities that "Support the Troops" need to do a better job, too. Indeed, we sleep safely in our beds because there are others willing to stand in the breach and meet violence with violence. But, if we're going to claim that we are better - we have to be better in action as opposed to just rhetoric. The cost is simply too high to do otherwise.

Finally found something you guys need from the Amazon sale
MacGyver replied to NoBanStan's topic in General Chat
I'm afraid this won't mesh with the synthetic snake oil wonder mix that I'm currently using on all of my weapons. It's a good price, but I haven't seen any reviews by any real operators. -

What's the best 22 Hornet & it's Hunting Applications?
MacGyver replied to Sidewinder's topic in Long Guns
I hear you on being a gun nut. And Lord knows I love my wildcat calibers. Were it me, I'd probably wind up collecting the whole set... That said, for your varmint interests, There are some common calibers that'll shoot lights out without compromise and do so without a lot of damage to the hides - which you seem interested in preserving. You probably don't need a whole lot of bullet for any of these - and any of the above would likely do fine. Something like a .223Rem just does it cheaper with more flexibility. -
I've been trying it out this morning. Added a song to a playlist. Went back to the playlist a few minutes later and it wouldn't open. Turns out it added the song 524,158 times. My 2015 MacBook Pro is still working on deleting the list. I subscribed to Apple Music to try it out, but at this rate I may stick with Spotify. I've not had any complaints with Spotify. I'm going to give the app an update or two to get the kinks worked out - but they're making it awfully hard to consume.

What's the best 22 Hornet & it's Hunting Applications?
MacGyver replied to Sidewinder's topic in Long Guns
Sidewinder, I've noticed your evolution in thinking over the last couple of weeks from .17HMR to 22WMR to .22 Hornet now. Now that you're in centerfire calibers, your options open up a lot. I don't remember if you have other constraints affecting your decision, but why not go with a more common, more available caliber like .223? You can download rounds into the above caliber energies if you like, but you can also load some real hot ones. Likewise, the ammo available off the shelf probably makes it pretty easy to stock and consume. -
I think it's important to look at Allen West in light of where he exists. The comparison with Sharpton, though harsh - is not as far off as it may sound. West is no longer a "public servant" - though he remains in the public sphere. This alone is probably illustrative of his intent and ambitions. Upon losing the election in 18th district of Florida, he accepted a handsome salary to be a pundit at Fox News. As such - his job as it exists today - isn't to serve a constituency, it's not to move the dialog on a given issue forward. Rather, it's to sell the message that his bosses - in this case Murdoch's 21st Century Fox want him to deliver to the public. Sure, he has a say in that dialog, but he makes a handsome salary delivering it. He is in essence a foil to the likes of Sharpton, but he's a salesman all the same. This is the light within which I primarily view him as a politician. Beyond that, I've a great deal of respect for anyone who willingly signs a contract to put on the uniform of the United States military and defend our country. I can even understand the circumstances and the logic that led to his decisions in Taji. Those decisions however, probably ought to disqualify him for any higher office. I know there's a great clammer in certain circles to get him to throw his hat in the ring for president. I just can't see a Commander in Chief who's held a mock execution for a prisoner that was under his control.

I love 22WMR. Frankly the only reason I stick with it as opposed to doing exactly what Caster stated above is to have something with a little more oomph during our screwed up Rimfire Only portions of the season. Frankly, I'd love to go the other way on the 17WSM. I'd like to start with that same .27 caliber nail gun blank and jam a bigger bullet in it instead of a smaller one. Caster, maybe David could find us an appropriate powder. The only problem with it would be my proclivity to shoot a hog in the neck with it during squirrel season...

I sure am intrigued by that caliber. Do post results!

With AR parts kits? While the knowledge might be readily available, most people can't put in a trigger spring the right way the first time. They're not going to make the leap to drilling the extra holes in receivers, milling out material, sourcing the needed parts and pulling that all off successfully. The folks who are going to break the law and risk it on something like that are few and far between - at least in legitimate gun ownership circles. I'd say for 100 parts kits sold, at least 99 end up being used for their intended purpose - whether a cheap build or full race dragon,

I know some guys who like the 40-rounders, but I've not heard of anyone running these in any real life application. -
Speaking of your Tavor, I don't know how I've missed the Manticore / Rat Worx integrated suppressor. That thing is pretty sweet! I think you may need one...

Need Help ID'ing Something (249/Mk48 sear?)

Yep. Those are m249 sears. -
The 17 WSM uses a .27cal nail gun blank as a parent case.

The 17WSM is really in a different class. I like the concept of a larger rimfire round. I've not shot one, though. I've not seen much of the ammo around - seems like one you're going to have more luck with online.

We shoot this gun mostly as a target rifle with the 17 grain V-max rounds. The barrel is free floated. I've not experienced any leading. Zeroed at 100m, it drops about 2 1/2 inches at 150m. We have taken a handful of varmints with it - namely one large beaver that was destroying an agricultural dam. It was a shot of opportunity, and the beaver was DRT. If I had my choice, I'd choose something a little bigger for stuff like beaver or coyote, but it did seem to do the job. Keep in mind with a suppressor, that this round is so hot that if your target is further than about 15m away you're still going to have a significant supersonic crack.

Survey says: 35 percent of Americans would expatriate
MacGyver replied to Grand Torino's topic in General Chat
I would happily buy any one of them a one way ticket today to any foreign country of their choosing. The only stipulation I would require is that they leave for two years, and at the end of that time should they want to repatriate, they repay me 150% of the original ticket price.- 46 replies

While Savage probably has more experience in .17HMR than anyone else at this point, I'm still not terribly excited about an autoloader in the caliber. Ruger and Remington backed away from it - the later with a complete recall of the rifles at large. Mind you it's a bolt action, but my Savage 93r17 BTVS is one of my favorite rifles. And, we have literally driven tacks at 75 meters. If you don't have a lot of experience with the round, it is a positively explosive little round. I would argue that you'll have one of two outcomes varmint and small game hunting with it. The energy of the round dissipates quickly. So, either you'll hit a dense enough section of a large enough animal to absorb it and you won't have an exit hole - or you won't and the exit hole will be so large as to render the hide unusable. We shoot hedge apples fairly regularly, and while these are pretty large and dense, it obliterates them reliably. It ought to be a reliable rifle for coyotes. For squirrels, you'll be relegated to simply picking up the pieces.
