  1. A couple of old roaddog buddies of mine were out with Nuge last year(charlie directly to the left of ted and jose next to charlie). And this was their end of tour crew photo. Gotta love the Nuge!
  2. I have been a Mac guy since elementary school. I absolutely would recommend an iBook or my personal choice a MacBookPro. Vista is a thinly veiled rip off of OSX. 10 years ago compatability with the rest of the world was a problem but with OSX and the ipod's mad popularity the computing world is converging rapidly. Now if they could just get iPhone activation issues ironed out my stock would soar!
  3. My encounter was pleasant he did not give me a ticket!
  4. I myself have been disarmed during a traffic stop and it went almost exactly like described in dariks post except he did not ask about my firearm until after I had handed him my permit. I informed him I was armed and that I would prefer if he handled the weapon. He had me step out of the car and stand facing the side of my vehicle with my arms on the roof while he disarmed me. Afterwards, I got back in my vehicle while he went back to his car and did whatever it is they do in there. He returned and issued me a warning for speeding and handed me my unloaded Kahr K9 and asked me not to reload it until he had left. he then complemented me on it being a nice carry weapon and told me to have a good night. After he left I realized I had my 642 J-frame in my pocket(it is always there). Oh well no harm no foul. If I am out and about I can appreciate that the police do not know me and they want to go home to their families at the end of their shift. I will be cooperative. That said, when I took my carry permit class at Guns & Leather the instructor relayed a story about a County deputy that disarmed a permit holder when he noticed a Kel-Tec in his back pocket at a convenience store. The deputy disarmed the man and confiscated his weapon on the premise that it was illegal to carry a weapon wherever alcohol was sold. He evidently did not know about the onsite consumption part of the law. The permitholder did get a lawyer and filed charges against the sheriffs department. Luckily for them the plaintaff accepted a formal verbal and written apology from both the deputy and the sheriff. It seems to me that often we as citizens are more aware of some laws than the officers themselves. After all they have alot more of them to keep up with. I will cooperate while in public because I am not breaking any laws and I carry extras on my person and in my vehicle. I also carry less lethal means of defending myself. Now that said my home is a different story I think we can all look at the gross civil rights violations that happened in New Orleans during Katrina and see that sometimes you might have to disobey the law in the best interest of you and your family's safety. Although I am a firm believer that a few throw away firearms are a good solution to that scenario.

    My Russian Lady

The VEPR is a Kalashnikov(AK) based rifle only it is built around a RPK receiver(the light machine gun version of a AK) The receiver i thicker than a standard AK and the front trunnion is also beefier. The barrel is handforged and also thicker than standard. All this adds up to a Kalashnikov rifle that is pretty darn accurate and AK reliable. I have shot 3 inch groups with my 16.5" barreled 7.62x39mm with iron sights at 100 yards(see pic). The 308 version has a 23.25" barrel plus muzzle brake. Like I said I have only been to the range with it once(spent more time talking than shooting) but from first impressions sub 2 MOA should be easily achievable and who knows with the right ammo a 1 MOA Kalashnikov? The Hensoldt(military division of ZEISS) Z24 optic is awesome(I just found a manual online that is not in German) and boy does it make things easier.

So I just got a new mistress a VEPR 308 w/ Hensoldt Wetzler 4x24 scope. Found her on GB and Bill(Rabbi) at Eastside Gun Shop did the transfer(Thanks Bill). Took her to the range today and I am a happy boy. I actually spent more time answering questions about it than shooting it. I love Kalashnikov's and this one is no exception. Figured I would post a few pics of her and her sister(VEPR K 7.62x39).
  7. Depending on date and time I'm in. I second that Guns & Leather is by far the best range around(although they do have caliber restrictions). On Target is good also just not quite as nice. If you could get a headcount Danny and the folks at Hobson Pike might very well give us our own range to use. The only real downside to Hobson is all the rules and the RSO are a little overzealous although they have to be because no telling who they are dealing with. I do wish they would lighten up on those of us that have been there 100 times. Anyway, book it and I'll try to make it.
  8. Big and Slow, .45, AK. That said I carry a .38, 9mm or/and a 40s&w(trunk gun is a AK 7.62). In a perfect world I will have time to get a good sight picture center mass squeeze. In reality hit as hard as possible while moving off the X and shoot em to the ground.

    FFL Transfers

There are a couple of places here around Nashville that charge $25(and get my business) and then there are some that charge $50 which I think is a little high. It really is up to the FFL's discretion.

Kevin(Owner/Builder) is great to deal with and his holsters have held up perfectly for me.(I own 2) http://kdholsters.com/ Comp Tac C-T.A.C. probably the best not all leather I.W.B holster you can buy. Comfortable and functional, easy reholstering is a major plus.(I own 1) http://www.comp-tac.com/ I prefer leather it is just more comfortable. 22. You know I was sitting here the other day drooling over yet another gun on gunbroker. My wife walks in rolls her eyes :rolleyes:and gives me the standard "What do you need another one for? You only have to hands.":blah: I quickly reply " I got to have some for you and the kids(1 and 3 years old respectively)" But it got me thinking. How ready is ready? And ready for what? I own several hanguns(mostly Glocks) a few Kalashnikovs(with a 308 version on the way) a DSA FAL and a couple surplus bolt guns as well as a few more sportsman type rifles(levergun, boltgun) I literally do not have anymore room in the safe(that's why i'm selling one..hint,hint). I have several thousands of rounds of ammunition with at least a thousand of 4 different calibers. But do I really need all that. If a massive governmental breakdown happens in the next five minutes how hard is it gonna be to get myself and my family safely home and then what? Am I just being paranoid even thinking about streamlining my guns to three different calibers so it will be easier for me to stockpile(again stockpile for what?) Or am I just using all the gloom and doom as a reason to buy more guns(hey they are fun). And then I realized I can't control any of that and the only thing I could control is protecting my family in the moment if anything happened. Hope for the best but, have and not need is better than need and not have.I hope that I surround myself with the best of people and try to be that myself. I have friends and neighbors that I trust and that can trust me. That goes a long way. Unfortunately we live in a world that can change in an instant. Are you ready? For what? Of course my wife is right. I am being paranoid! I'm supposed to be I'm a father. By the way, when she walked out of the room I placed a bid on gunboker:rock:. Urse P.S. No, you DO NOT need to send the ATFto my house!
  23. Start here: http://www.ak-47.us/ www.akfiles.com www.akforum.net and also if you are interested in technique a great place to hang out is www.warriortalk.com just remember the AK is not an AR it does not act, feel, shoot, handle anything like the black rifle. However, "a billion peasants can't be wrong"
