  1. I love the AR vs AK hype train. I have been a member of TGO since about its beginning and I have been offline for a few years.I poke my head in to a thread and sure enough it is an old reliable topic. Men are not built for monogamy, buy as many of both as you can!
  2. I have both platforms as well. A few years ago I dumped both for the high maintenance rich girl. My go to rifle is a SCAR 17. I would still grab a shotgun to defend the house though.......fat girls try harder....lol
  3. I was an AK guy for a long time. Collected them in pairs by country before they were cool. Which is great because the MAK 90s I paid $250 for now are getting $1k or more and the Arsenals and Veprs are even more ridiculous. Well made AKs are built like tanks and sewing machine reliable(which has a little something to do with the tapered 7.62x39 cartridge). They are also heavy, full of sharp edges and get really flipping hot. The 7.62 x 39 penetrates too much in my opinion for home defense as I have other people in the house to worry about but 5.45 is an option. I also have ARs and love the ergonomics and weight plus the 5.56 is a good round for home defense IMO. All that said, if something goes bump in the night then I am grabbing a Mossberg 590.

  5. I would suggest Vortex Viper PST 1x4x24 for your budget range. I have had one for a couple years and moved it around to various rifles and it has been rock solid. Unless you are running an SPR build I do not see the need for the extra magnification. Your carnage may vary.     http://www.opticsplanet.com/vortex-viper-pst-1-4x24-riflescope.html?_iv_code=VX-RS-VPR1-PST-14ST-M

  8. Hello everyone. The following is a link to a video which gives a rough overview of the impending AWB which will be introduced by Diane Feinstein next week. Please go to youtube and watch this video. In the "show more" section below the video is a link to congress.org where you can post a brief message as well as your personal information and it will automatically e-mail your representatives in both houses of Congress as well as the President of The United States. A sample letter is included in the comments section of the Youtube video as well that you can copy and paste to make it even more convenient. The whole process only takes a couple minutes. Sorry if this is a repost I do not spend much time on internet forums anymore but I do feel it is necesssary that everyone needs to speak up on this matter NOW. It is not okay to allow someone else to fight this fight for you.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDglpt8hpyg
  9. Daily Smoke: Tatuaje Noellas(rolled in Miami) My Local B&M: Belle Meade Cigar & Gifts(Great guys!) I love full-bodied, full-flavored cigars and lately the La Flor Dominicana Colorado Oscuro, Illusione ~ultra~ MKULTRA(black label) and Liga Privada T52(impossible to find!) are favorites. I have grown quite accustom to the bolder flavor profiles of Nicaraguan and some Dominican tobaccos and I feel there are cigars coming from those countries that are as good or better than anything from Cuba. That said, I travel quite a bit and I have found a few boxes of Cubans in my luggage. Partagas Serie D No.4 and Bolivar Royal Coronas are always good times.
  10. I think she uses waaaaay to much oil but this video still stimulates thought.

    Beretta ARX160

Happened across this on another forum. Great concept, looks to be a direct competitor for the SCAR/ACR/XCR/AR and is one of the entries in the Army's improved carbine competition.
  13. Here are a couple of videos that offer comparisons of the two calibers. Jim Fuller is considered by many the finest AKsmith in the country. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VFkgZij5eg&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwKf-yoEhnM&feature=related If I could have only one AK I would choose the 7.62. The 5.45 is tempting but the 7.62x39 is available in the AK, SKS, CZ 527(bolt gun) and the RAA BARS-4-1(also a bolt gun) platforms. There are plenty of readily available reloading supplies for the 7.62x39. The actual diameter of most 7.62x39 ammo is between .310 & .311 but the .308 bullet can also be used. The vast majority of AK parts and pieces imported into this country have been 7.62x39. For me this all adds up to more flexibility with the 7.62 round than the 5.45. While it is true that the 5.45 can be had for $139/k I have been collecting AKs for several years and have owned eleven 7.62 variants as opposed to one 5.45. I have gone through thousands of 7.62 rounds and have a healthy supply of ammo on hand. If you are planning on actually training with your AK and will be shooting thousands of rounds then it may make sense to go with the 5.45. People that load their guns up once or twice a month during the summer and go to the range to blow through a couple hundred rounds are gonna see less long term economic gain in the 5.45 because they may never go through 2k rounds. As has been stated already either will serve you well. I have always subscribed to the "hole will not get smaller" philosophy but that said I would not want to be shot by a .22 much less either of these rounds. When the zombies attack if I am inside it will be a 12 gauge in my hands and if I am outside it will be a .308. This of course is all just one opinion Your Carnage May Vary and good luck with you choice!
  14. My family and I are in. I have several like minded neighbors in the Smyrna area. We are currently planning on banding together and covering each other. I have 45 days food and 60 days water for my family and I am planning on doubling that asap. I am currently educating myself on bio sand water filtration. I have plenty of guns and ammunition for the wife and I both and my daughter is just now getting old enough to learn firearm basics. I need to get up to speed with Ham although I have a neighbor that is already a ham, I at least need a handheld. All that said, I agree if the SHTF then a like minded community effort is gonna have the best chance of weathering the storm. I will help anyway I can.

    My New Rifle

Likewise. I was blown away by the difference this thing makes in the platform. I have one on a Arsenal AK 104 clone and one on a Mak 90. Wish I had thought of it!

    My New Rifle

Nice rifle! I would put a TWS rail on it to get that optic down on the rifle though. Looks like you would be lucky to get a tip of the chin weld as it is. TWS has an optional peep sight as that is a major upgrade for the rifle. The increased sight radius is very nice plus you can get a proper cheek weld with the optic. .Texas Weapon Systems, Dog Leg scope rail

  20. The SKS-M is going for $550-$650 on Gunbroker and the Standard will probably go for $300-$400
  21. SKS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Top one a Standard SKS-M & The bottom one is a standard SKS. The above link has more details on both.
  22. This is wrong. I have owned a few and shot a few more of the Chinese guns and I have Never seen one without a chrome lined barrel. Not saying they do not exist but they are the exception and not as you suggest the rule. The budget Chinese rifles have a pinned barrel, stamped trigger groups and slab sided bolt carriers and the nicer rifles have screwed in barrel, milled trigger group and the bolt carriers have lightening cuts. Both however have chrome lined barrels.
