  1. Push to ban guns from parks shot down again By BRIAN JUSTICE City Editor A second push to have guns banned from Tullahoma’s city parks has failed. The Board of Mayor and Aldermen, at Alderman Jerry Mathis’ request, voted on whether to consider a resolution that would ban guns from city parks. H ow eve r, Mathis’ motion, seconded by Alderman Mike Stanton, failed in a 4-3 vote. Voting to allow guns were Mayor Troy Bisby, Aldermen James Eads, Greg Sandlin and Mike Norris. Also siding with Mathis and Stanton in the minority was Alderman Jimmy Blanks. The Tennessee Legislature re cently passed a law, effective Sept. 1, that allows state-issued permit holders to possess guns —concealed or in open view — in city and state parks. The law also allows cities to opt out from the law and ban guns in their parks by passing resolutions proclaiming their stance. The Tullahoma Board discussed the issue at length at its Aug. 24 meeting. It was divided on whether to ban guns, which would take majority sup port from four board members to do so. However, no quorum sup ported the move. Mathis was adamant in telling the board then and again on Monday that he believes fi rearms, regardless of permit status, have no business being around school athletic events. He said some school systems wouldn’t allow their teams and athletes to play or participate in events where guns area allowed nearby. Mathis said the issue goes beyond that because the law does allow guns by permit at non-school related youth baseball and soccer games. He said he’s seen where participants in those events have become irate and took action that lacked good judgment. He added guns have no place being at events like that. Norris said he personally has issues with guns being allowed in city parks, but the input he received from Tullahoma residents overwhelmingly supported allowing guns by permit. Stanton had said on Aug. 24 that as a gun novice, he had initially been totally against allowing guns. However, he said through public input he’d reconsider his position. Stanton said the law allows a permit to be issued after the applicant has undergone an eight-hour training course — four involving classroom instruction, and the other four in shooting profi ciency training. He said he doubts the training required to obtain a carry permit is adequate. Stanton said he questions whether the permit process adequately tests emotional stability, and some permit holders could be dangerous. Kristin Helm, TBI spokesperson, said recently that the background checks to get gun permits are nearly the same as the process used when gun purchases are made. However, she said the permit process requires fingerprinting applicants where gun sales transactions don’t involve the step. Mike Browning, Tennessee Department of Safety public information offi cer, said of the state’s 240,000 valid handgun permit holders, less than 1 percent have been linked to crimes related to weapons. 2. They finally did a piece on ACORN last night ... but allowed it to be turned into the "it's racist" argument.
  3. Does my yard count?
  4. ummm . the czars don't require confirmation .. they do not answer to anyone but the Prez... not the way this gov should work.
  5. You could just get the iPod Touch. It's the same thing except no phone, no camera and no speaker. Get the Net on WiFi. I have been stuck in Verizon contracts and now live in an area with lousy AT&T coverage... so I carry the most basic phone possible and an iPod Touch.
  6. I live like 3 miles away. It took me three tries and a GPS to find it the first time.
  7. Wahooo! Thanks for the update.
  8. My wife and daughter are sick .. couldn't make it.
  9. Howdy from Tullahoma!
  10. He told me there will ultimately be a rifle range, but I suspect pistol only for now. I'm not complaining! Do we need a new thread to plan our first get together there?
  11. I wouldn't call this HDR. There's no way you got those three guys to stand there like that for multiple exposures. It looks like you just played with lotsa saturation, gamma and other settings in PS. There are plenty of filters out there that will do this for you. Here's a h.s. football image that I've messed with, though not as extreme...
  12. I got my turtle shell in July 1990 in Shreveport, LA ... yup it was hot, but without it I wouldn't be walking. I sorta had to relearn walking and had almost no stamina for a couple of months. I met my wife while still in that shell... she figured it was pretty safe to be with me in that condition.
  13. Dude... how's this going for you now? Keep up the PT... even if just on your own. I had a burst fracture of T9 and compression fractures of C3 & C5 from a helicopter crash in 1990. Two harrington rods held me together while the bone grafts fused. I insisted they come out a year later. I hurt in some fashion every day... some worse than others.
  14. I agree. I certainly prefer images that don't look overdone. Most of my HDR work has been specifically to bring out detail that couldn't be accomplished with a single exposure. I often do a manual HDR where rather than blending multiple images, I mask the underexposed area of one layer to show the properly exposed area of another layer. Sometimes that is with two different versions of a single image. However Lightroom's ability to brush in exposure differences has kept me from doing that several times.
  15. I was living in Madison, WI at the time ... the Badger fans loved it.
  16. I don't recall the instruction I received at Uncle Sam's summer camp for young men & women having any preference as to which direction to clean the barrel. Then again the instructors were very casual and allowed us to do things however we wanted (NOT).
  17. Don't you guys remember 2007 when Michigan, ranked No. 5 in the nation, was upended 34-32 by Appalachian State?
  18. One reason manual adjustments are better... I set the cam to bracket at a wedding once to HDR the chapel interior... and probably went 5 minutes before remembering to turn off bracket.
  19. Thanks for this thread. I am reviewing a lens for Professional Photographer magazine... the new Sigma 10-20/3.5. You made me think I should go shoot some HDR before I have to send it back (on Tuesday).
  20. I believe mine does keep the same aperture setting in aperture priority mode. However so far I've only done them with a wide lens and in situations where a few stops difference won't really effect the depth of field enough to notice.
  21. I've done HDR with JPG files. I've even done HDR with multiple exposure edits of a single image... yeah, I wanted RAW for that. BTW, Fuji's S3 and S5 technically use a HDR in their sensors... they have two sensors per pixel and combine the two images. The S5 still has the greatest dynamic range of any DSLR.
  22. I usually set the camera to do a bracket, usually at least 2-3 stops offset. It's important to keep the camera still ... use a tripod. any movement between exposures will hinder the software's ability to line up the multiple images. Honestly I've done very little HDR... just when necessary. Maybe I should play with it more. 3am exterior If you look at the TV screens you'll see the effect of blending multiple images. I should have put back the screen from a single image.
  23. Podcast of Rush Limbaugh show yesterday .. guest host is Walter Williams.
  24. Go Big Orange!
  25. Don't feel stupid. I needed a drill sergeant to teach me how. I still find myself obsessively running patches down the barrel until they come out clean.
