Watched several videos on YouTube during the World Series game. I have a lot of work to get done, so it'll be a few days before it comes out of the box again.

Walked through the new Dunham Sports in Tullahoma to discover they have a decent looking gun section (but no handguns). Looking at their list of current sales, noticed an item for just $89.99 ... Listed as a vintage M91-30. Not seeing anything looking vintage in the cabinets, I asked. They just got a delivery, but needed to see how many would be claimed by rain checks. One of the first rules of sales is to let the customer handle the merchandise. The next thing I knew they were handing me a well oiled Mosin. I recently made a. If sale myself and just happened to have an extra hundred in the wallet. So a bit of paperwork and an hour later, my car had a new (used) gun smell. I'm a handgun guy. This is my first long gun purchase. My only significant long gun experience was provided by Uncle Sam nearly 20 years ago. Tomorrow I'll pull it out and check markings. Gotta find ammo. Do I need to get it checked before firing? Any other tips for a Mosin virgin?

AR spotted in Tullahoma WM priced $8-something.

Love the Mark II, never shot a Mark III ... but am itching for a Beretta U22 Neos. Roughly the same quality gun, slightly better price and a built in rail.

Am on my way to ARRL site with the casual thought of upgrading to General Class.... Thanks!

Ok, stupid question as I haven't been an active ham for over a decade... is code still required to go beyond Tech?

Was in Lowe's a couple weeks ago looking at fiberglass roofing material. Grabbed one and slid it down toward the floor ... where it landed pretty hard on top of my toes (yes, was wearing flip flops). After swearing softly in front of my 5 year old, I wiped off the blood and put the material back, then proceeded to limp out the door to the car. I'm no longer gonna be wearing such things other than around the house or beach.

what is on your adult beverage menu for the evening?

I've kinda become biased toward the stuff made near my home town... George Dickel, Jack Daniel and rum from Prichard's (haven't tried their Lincoln Lightning, whiskeys or bourbons yet). -
For anyone who votes in Tullahoma, my opinion of the candidates are: Mayor - I only moved back to Tullahoma in 2008, so my perspective on the Mayoral race is limited. I only know that Troy Bisby supported the guns in parks issue and appears to be very much in favor of individual rights. I found no record of his contributions to federal candidates. He seems to be conservative. Lane Curlee is a former Tullahoma Mayor and Democrat State Representative. He is a client and very nice guy. I don't know much about his political perspectives, but know he's very involved in non-profit ventures to support those in need. The FEC database shows one contribution from Lane to a Democrat candidate for the House of Representatives. Alderman - I'm only voting for one candidate so that I don't accidentally push a second choice past my first choice. Scott Shasteen - My first choice. He is a strong fiscal conservative, pro-gun and individual rights. He served a previous term as a Tullahoma Alderman, but chose to not run for reelection in order to have time for his daughter's last years in high school. Jerry Mathis - Was very much against allowing guns in parks, and specifically ignored the Attorney General's opinion regarding the issue of guns in parks during a school sponsored function such as a sporting event. He did not seem to care to hear the other side. Jerry is on the TSSAA board and was probably involved in that organization taking a strong position against the issue. He will likely push the issue again if reelected. Mike Stanton - Was against guns in parks, but said that in listening to both sides he would reconsider. However he did second a motion by Jerry Mathis to ban guns from city parks and voted for the ban (along with Alderman Jimmy Blanks... it failed 4-3). There is another candidate. I do not know his name or anything about him. I was unable to attend any of the candidate forums. The only position I am publicly taking on the Tullahoma elections is to encourage others to support Scott Shasteen and only vote for one alderman candidate.

The football field and football practice field is school property. The baseball field is part of a city park... as is the greenway (except where it crosses into the school parking lot). I once tried to get a definite answer about the band and soccer practice fields. My best guess is that they are part of the park as well, but don't bet your legal position on that.

But the best part for me was a private tasting with Jeff Arnett and Jeff Norman of a few new products... These were ok. I liked the Jack and Ginger better than the Jack and cola. My personal opinion... mix your own! I also got a shot of the new Tennessee Honey (it had hardly even been leaked to the press at the time). Jeff and Jeff told me a bit about how it came about and some of the plans for the product. I've got a feeling Tennessee Honey will be around for a while. I didn't get a pic of it that day because the only labeled bottle they had at the distillery were samples.

Some boring press conference type of images... but if you know Jack or Lynchburg, you might recognize a few faces.

A couple of months ago The Jack Trail was unveiled by the Tennessee Department of Tourism. I finally brightened up and thought a few of you guys might care to see some of the images from that day. It was mostly a press type of event, but there were still some good photo ops. Here's the sign in front of the visitor center.... A barrel was made just for this event. It's probably now on display somewhere at the distillery.

Am reading this while wearing sandals. Making no judgement here.

Maybe he's trying to do a long term fix rather than a band-aid. Here's an example.... Madison Teachers Inc. (MTI) will allow only one insurance company, WPS Health Insurance, to provide their coverage. MTI repeatedly refused to allow the Madison School Board to even shop for for IDENTICAL coverage from a different provider, despite demonstrated savings to the school district. The head of MTI has been on the WPS board (not sure if he still is), IMHO a clear conflict of interest. Only by restricting collective bargaining to wages can the Madison school system take common sense steps to reduce costs.

I haven't read this thread, but still want to put in 2 cents... in 1996 I moved to Madison, WI. In 1997 I really started paying attention to the local politics. It really is a different world. In 1998 I heard a teacher, who I knew had a masters degree, tell the school board that, "Without the union, I am nothing." At that moment I realized I did not want to raise a child in a Wisconsin public school. I don't remember the exact figures, but between the Federal mandates on their funds and the union contract, the school board could have influence over a tiny portion of the budget. Oh yeah, a school board is a property taxing authority in Wisconsin. I am honestly surprised the protests have not had moments of violence, but there i still much more to go in the battle up there. The only times I've ever heard any person suggest direct violence against an elected official, it was by a Madison liberal against a conservative Republican. I probably should have reported all three incidents to the FBI. Our daughter was born in 2005 and we moved back home to Tennessee in 2008. Our daughter will enter kindergarten this fall in a school system that I trust.

If Obamacare were Militiacare
cybernorris replied to cybernorris's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I am very aware that this is the way things used to be... as required by state law, not federal law. I lived for eleven years in the People's Republic of Madison, WI and know many who are on the left fringe. Thus my example is intended to demonstrate something that they would find to be absolutely unacceptable and even unthinkable in their minds. But I fear their thoughts would be along the lines of "That's not right" based on their feelings, rather than any consideration of Constitutionality. -
Here's an idea that might help someone understand how the individual mandate of Obamacare is a reach beyond the limits of the Constitution. Suppose Congress were to pass a law recognizing that every able-bodied person is a member of the militia. As part of this law, Congress would require each such person to purchase their own uniforms, firearms and ammunition. Every year each person would have to submit to an inspection of their uniforms, firearms and ammunition. Any person found to not have what is required would have to pay a fine. I believe that even the most stubbornly pro-Obamacare individual would argue that Congress should not be able to pass and enforce such laws. However I doubt most would recognize the parallel.

Davis' office told me today that he would vote "No" to the bill, the amendment package, the Slaughter bill. The second guy I talked to for clarification used the phrase "across the board."
