Paperwork at DL center and fingerprints were May 11. Received permit in mail today. So that's 7 business days or 11 calendar days. I was happily surprised. DL center guy said to contact if it's been longer than either 60 or 90 days (forget which).

I've never been. Is there a registration fee?

Is this one going into effect in an hour?

I've seen an excellent video of the build on one of these clear receivers. On anything except a clear one it wouldn't be nearly as effective an instruction tool.

Wonder if TN Legislature could pass something this session allowing dealers to sell to out of state residents and residents to buy from out of state..... or if TN law already allows this?

It should stand immediately in the district where the ruling was made. I suspect DOJ will ask for a stay pending appeal. Just read the whole ruling. It is very well presented. Any federal judge's ruling is valid in their district unless overturned. We are not in that district, so don't yet be expecting to pick up handguns in neighboring states just yet. However, unless the ruling is stayed, you should be able to purchase a handgun in the Northern District of Texas. Are there any Internet based gun dealers within that district? Can one do the NICS paperwork via fax, phone or the Net?

Anyone in TN carrying these? I assume any purchase from the links above would require a local FFL transfer.   I once owned an Italian 92F … was an excellent piece.

    Mike got my point on buying this knife… as did PeeJ. I'm thinking this will be a good knife to throw in the console of each car. Also my most frequent use for a knife, apart from food, is cutting boxes.   The knives that will pass to my daughter are most likely the ones that my grandfather gave me. Those are priceless!

Was at WalMart a couple of days ago and picked up a Sheffielf 3.5 inch folding knife (6043) for $5. I'm not a big knife guy, but having never owned this type of knife, I figured it's gotta be worth at least that price. Again, not a big knife guy, but it certainly seems like a decent tool. Took a moment to figure out how to close it… am used to lock blade release being on the back, not under the blade. It won't fall open, but once starting it with just the thumb it will easily flick open with a solid click. The blade is smooth and clean with a decent edge. It will cut paper with just its weight and a bit of forward movement. Of course at this price it is made in China. Company's web site is sheffield-tools.com. I'm guessing this is a model made just for WalMart as it's not listed on their web site. Turns out I coulda saved money buying the knife online with in-store pickup. My parents' neighbor was forced to do a "psychiatric" counseling session when he moved into an assisted living facility. According to him a large part of the session were questions about if he had ever considered taking his own life and if so how would he do it. The man said he had never before contemplated such a thing.   The gentleman still maintained his residence and enjoyed coming home to sit on his porch or sunroom and mess with his tools, projects and CB radios out in the garage.   A few weeks later my dad came over to visit and found the gentleman in the garage with his car engine running. My dad was very concerned and they chatted about it for a while... and out came the details about never having considered it and all of the thought from that psych session coming up with the determination that the old leave the engine running in the garage was this man's preferred way to end it all.   Thanks to whatever mandatory psych counseling session he has now thought about ending his own life and seriously contemplated how to do it.   FYI, the gentleman is still doing ok in the assisted living facility. 

Local school here the SRO has told me that it is ok for me to have a utility knife in my camera bag (I'm a professional photographer) on school grounds. It is there as a tool. The Gerber boot knife has been in the car on school grounds, but I'm not sure I would pull it out without a significant utility purpose.

What I have read does not indicate that $24 Million was Medicaid money.   But it is interesting to note that Vandy last year responded to the legislative action with a threat to stop treating TennCare patients.

Based on the law passed last year, Vandy apparently gets more than $24 million from the State of Tennessee.

The student organizations merely want the same rights every single off-campus religious organization enjoys... the right to use faith-based criteria when selecting leaders. The Supreme Court unanimously affirmed this right in January of 2012 in the case Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School v. EEOC. http://www.scotusblog.com/case-files/cases/hosanna-tabor-evangelical-lutheran-church-and-school-v-eeoc/     It sound like most everyone in the discussion agrees that the State has the right to withdraw any support from the school.   The Legislature is considering removing Vandy's ability to use a State authority, in the form of a police force, while it continues specific acts of unconstitutional behavior.

So a private university should be allowed to violate their students' constitutional rights? And the state has no right to withdraw its support if it continues to do so? Vandy would be able to disband its police force and continue discriminating against religious student groups if this passes. That would be their right as a private institution.

Christian groups on campus have always accepted anyone who wants to participate. They just want to maintain the right to restrict leadership positions to those who agree with the group's principals. This is not bigotry.   The policy has nothing to do with homosexuality. Vandy has very publicly let it be known that the "all comers" policy is specifically aimed at removing all Christian groups from campus. This IS bigotry and discrimination.   Vandy also applies a double standard by not applying the "all comers" policy to all student organizations. Fraternities and sororities are exempt.

Vanderbilt University in the past couple of years has been a leader among colleges and universities in a fight to remove Christian student organizations from their campuses by requiring that they open their leadership to individuals who don't share the group's faith. In other words, according to Vanderbilt, a Catholic group must be open to Muslim leaders, a Baptist group to atheists, and Jewish groups to Hindus. More than a dozen Christian groups have now been forced off campus. FYI, the US Supreme Court ruled in 2010 that a public college could not have this type of policy.   Last year the Tennessee Legislature passed a bill that would require private collages, including Vanderbilt, to protect its' students most basic religious liberties. However the Governor vetoed the bill... claiming that a private university should be able to set its own policies.   This year the Legislature will consider SB1241/HB1150, a bill "relative to religious liberty involving student organizations at postsecondary educational institutions."    The point of this bill is simple... respect students' religious liberties or lose the authority to operate a police force.   Vanderbilt's police force is authorized by State law. In this way, the University is an extension of the State of Tennessee.
