  1. My primary carry is a Glock G19 (Gen2). I plan to add a G26 for something more compact, but still with decent capacity. Do I keep the Ruger LCP (with upgraded trigger) and/or the Remington RM380? We all know the LCP fits in a pocket very easily. The RM380 is a bit bigger but also pocket sized. It also seems to get on target and is easier on the hand & wrist. Of course I don’t have to get rid of either. Anyone got any thoughts or opinions on the subject?
  2. Coming late to this party. Optic Planet took weeks to fulfill an order for a buddy of an in stock product, then it came screwed up. Fortunately it was a Vortex scope and Vortex made it right within days. If you’re talking rifle optics, I just picked up a Vortex AR red dot from Palmetto State Armory in a great bargain ... just $129! Keep an eye on their sales.
  3. If I can’t wear an untucked shirt or jacket, my carry is usually the LCP in a Desantis pocket holster.
  4. Did armorer school recently and it was primarily on Gen 5, though we also went through Gen 3 & 4 (plus I have a Gen2). Personally my next Glock will either be a Gen5 or a self-build from a stripped frame or Poly80 (which would be Gen3). The only problem I have with the Gen5 slide stop spring is that little bugger can fly. I like the Gen5 slide lock (ambidextrous) and trigger bar connection to the trigger mechanism housing better. Also the Gen5 goes from 3 pins back to two pins, which my transitional Gen2 also has. The orange Gen5 mag follower is an unexpected bonus... easier to see inside the mag. Finally very few people mention the Gen5 barrel .. match grade out of the box. So yeah, I'd go Gen5 unless you have a specific reason to go with a previous generation.
  5. Welcome, brother & thanks for your service. Awesome that you took the opportunity to get your HCP already. I have found members here to be very open to PMs. In case you're not aware, several firearms manufacturers provide great discounts for military, LE and other first responders. Glock has their Blue Label program and Sig has their Armed Professional Program... you might want to pick up your own P320. (I picked up a 92F during my time in boots) Look forward to seeing you around.
  6. Tullahoma's closest driving ranges are the course on base and Tims Ford State Park ... which is an incredibly lovely course built on what's practically an island except for the narrow strip of land connecting it to the rest of the park.
  7. Took the Glock Armorer course a couple of weeks ago. Yes the Gen5 internals are different. The 19X internally is as Gen5 as any of the others... just went through the parts order form and almost all are the same for 17, 19 & 19X... a couple of differences between the 17 and 19s. Our instructor said that because of the frame/slide matchup, there is less rise so it's easier to stay on target for the next shot. I have only handled one in the showroom. Don't forget GSSF members get a discount coupon from Glock at each anniversary (buy 2+ years up front for a coupon now).
  8. Agree on the M1s from Korea. I'd much rather have an M1 than a 1911. I really think they're pricing these for collectors with the recognition that demand will be high. Part of me thinks it would be better to spend the same amount of money on a real 1911... but part of me would like to have a GI issued 1911 as well. This will be a purchase for next year or later, not for this year.
  9. GSSF is also a qualifying "club".. and you end up with a coupon for a blue label Glock at each anniversary. (go for multi-year membership and get that coupon up front).
  10. I took the Armorer's course. Wife proclaimed it was my anniversary present. (She got a S&W M&P Compact 22.) Definitely enjoyed it, but fingers were sore by the end of the day. Instructor was very good. I missed one question on the test... and a guy who teaches instructor courses missed the same question, so don't feel so bad. Came home with Waiting now for certificate. We worked primarily on Gen5 G17 or G19, but also on Gen3 & Gen4 frames. Learned more than enough to confidently take care of my own. Also willing to do some inspections to gain experience looking at more than just my own. Saturday I took apart my new to me G19 Gen2 and boy did it need a good cleaning. Waiting for the certificate to come in so I can order all of the springs. Now the desire is definitely there to build one from a Polymer 80 frame. So anyone out there who has upgraded and has spare G19 Gen3 parts collecting dust (barrel, slide, trigger etc), lemme know. Cheers!
  11. Templar in Tullahoma is hosting a Glock Armorer course. Am considering taking it but really have no purpose other than personal. Anyone have any comments on what a civilian/veteran who works in IT Security might do with this skill other than work on my own toys?
  12. I’m considering doing an 80% lower Glock 19. Tennessee Arms makes a polymer 80% lower AR that looks like it would be easier to build from than a metal lower.
  13. I went with the G19 rather than the G26 as the small end I have covered with a LCP. Thanks everyone for this conversation. Hopefully it’s relevant to others.
  14. Ok, just acquired a Glock 19 Gen 2 from @Rebels010 ... time to hit the range and figure it out. Still open to hearing other opinions on this subject.
  15. Templar is rocking! We finally joined as a member to save money in the long term on range time (free Tuesday-Thursday). Took my wife to date night in January. They had a local restaurant (not a chain) cater and had two hours on the range. Was fun ... will be doing it again. I also did my CC class there. I had a carry permit in the 90s in Louisiana, but lived in WI for many years, leaving just before they passed CC and just hadn't gotten around to it here. Excellent instruction. Great people, fine education, good selection (especially Glock) and very fine range. They are heavily active with TN NRA and Appleseed. They're having Glock competitions, Glock armorer school and other events. I highly recommend them.
  16. Isn't the snubbie the original pocket rocket? Update: Have identified a Glock 19 looking for a new home. Funds should be available in two weeks. Feel free to keep contributing to this thread to guide others.
  17. Thanks everyone for your responses. I find it interesting the number of .380 answers in here as I currently have a LCP and the wife has a Ruger RM 380 (couldn’t pass the Black Friday and rebate combination). My first handgun training was on the M9 (Army) and had a 92F back 89-90. Will probably go G19 next, but may look at other options as well, so definitely keep the opinions coming.
  18. Break Free was good enough for SSG Ramirez ... and he had the big hat.
  19. If budget or some other constraints were to lock you into only having a single carry gun, what would it be? Right now I'm leaning toward the Glock 26 ... more capacity (10) than a single stack, but still concealable in the summer. What's your opinion on this subject?
  20. Heading to Dunham's for a Remington RM380 ... $249 plus a $100 rebate .. will make it $149. Also might pick up the Marlin 795 for $129 for my 12 year old. Yeah, I'd rather get a 10/20, but this will do for now.
  21. This has a pocket appropriate for carrying IN the jacket? i just looked quick on the 5.11 site. There are several named “soft shell”. Thanks
  22. Yes, I am looking at the NRA store online and it seems they have the largest variety of options that I’ve found so far.
  23. My wife has convinced me that my good old tree season coat is looking old and should be replaced. So in looking for a new coat, the option of concealed carry IN the coat is on my mind. So does anyone have any advice? What to buy? Where to buy?
  24. I've heard that the opinion on this block is very excellent and should make it a bit harder for the 9th circus to overturn... but they still probably will.
