  1. While that is an SOP that will achieve compliance, it is not necessarily true for private schools. Attached is the text of the applicable law, 49-50-803. Handgun carry policy: https://advance.lexis.com/documentpage/?pdmfid=1000516&crid=2d4c34b8-4bba-4f30-bd0c-508cf1f25ce2&nodeid=ABXAAUAAIAAD&nodepath=%2fROOT%2fABX%2fABXAAU%2fABXAAUAAI%2fABXAAUAAIAAD&level=4&haschildren=&populated=false&title=49-50-803.+Handgun+carry+policy.&config=025054JABlOTJjNmIyNi0wYjI0LTRjZGEtYWE5ZC0zNGFhOWNhMjFlNDgKAFBvZENhdGFsb2cDFQ14bX2GfyBTaI9WcPX5&pddocfullpath=%2fshared%2fdocument%2fstatutes-legislation%2furn%3acontentItem%3a5JVC-WVD0-R03J-X3T5-00008-00&ecomp=8gf5kkk&prid=a427be1d-ebc3-4c9a-b9f2-d95a4cd01017
  2. Private schools have the ability to set their own regulations, so you will need to check with them, but for public schools anything used by a school is considered school grounds, even when out of session
  3. Another forum I frequent shares examples of negative and otherwise sub-optimal outcomes of real world events, and I thought it could be useful here. (Original Post and comments are Brian Horton’s not mine) “For awareness, education, and discussion: The Detroit Eastern Market Tailgate Shoooting. An Innocent bystander was killed by a bullet that penetrated through an armed aggressor’s head first. A single shot fired by a concealed carrier into the head of an armed man who was threatening people with a handgun that he was in the midst of an altercation with. The innocent bystander was trying to diffuse the incident and was behind the armed aggressor. Both people shot in the head by this single bullet died. The local prosecutor has decided the self defender won’t be prosecuted for any crime. The innocent bystander’s family is upset and their suing the concealed carrier in wrongful death civil suit is a strong possibility. Even if they do not sue him this man now has to live with the fact that he killed an innocent person and all the second guessing and other possible emotional, psychological, social, professional, and financial consequences that may stem from that. We don’t know what kind of bullet was fired but we know that with regularity even high quality hollow points will fully penetrate a human head while still retaining enough velocity to be deadly. The closer the muzzle is to the person shot the more likely this is to happen. We live in a three dimensional world and backstops matter. We have to be mindful of everything in front of, around, and behind someone we can lawfully shoot in self defense. We even have to be mindful that there may be people we can’t see behind walls and other penetratable barriers (Ref the LA active shooter incident where a cop made several great shots but one miss that went through a wall and killed a teenaged girl) This local news link has the most info I can find and some video. In the comments I will post a link to the best/most complete video of the incident I’ve found.” https://www.wxyz.com/news/eastern-market-shooter-will-not-be-charged-acted-in-self-defense-prosecutor-says?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR2Q9JFh_0CgRosWsRxnnMcDlKoGXdyFzUYsfFVUTkvdvpuAZb67E6AN26U_aem_iSj-LoN7JtruBT2akhlPhg We often talk about Rule 4, but very few ever train for it. Do you?
  4. While its possible, they did break off as soon as he ditched the gun. I'm not saying its a guarantee, just that it can and does happen. You can also look at any number of security guards and cops that are ambushed as further evidence of OC making a person a target, along with any number of gun thefts right off the belt of people. Personally, I am conflicted on the idea. I 100% believe we should be able to, and that Rights not exercised will be stripped away. However, in most instances in the general public I believe it to be a suboptimal decision.
  5. Now you can say you've seen one. Ultimately it comes down the motivation of an attacker, which is something entirely outside of our control, so we must instead modify our own target indicators to modify the attacker's selection process. Many criminals are doubtlessly deterred, at least temporarily, by open carriers (until the OC'er leaves). They are generally opportunists, and are also some of the most likely to be deterred by the mere presentation of a concealed pistol. Its the one that isn't deterred that is the problem. They will be much more willing to do violence from the onset, so why give them any edge?
  6. That is messed up. Therefore, I found it hilarious!
  7. The two people I mentioned above, Aqil and Tiffany, run Citizens Safe Academy. Absolutely Top Notch. Ive not personally taken the classes at Royal Range, but they have good reputation.
  8. 1) You are correct on the whole about teachers an admin. Those like me are a minority, but we are there, and in greater numbers than many appreciate. 2) My vision is that armed teachers and SROs work to complement each others. Armed teachers essentially acting as hard points to “fix” an attacker in place, while SROs can close with, Flank and Finish. 3) This is pretty accurate historically. I’ve done fairly comprehensive research on the School Attack issue, and while Security Personnel have failed and fled in the face of an attack, I do not have a single case of a teacher doing the same. Instead you have numerous examples of men like Aaron Feiss of Stoneman-Douglass, who made a 40 yard dash under fire, taking several wounds in the process, and dying with muzzle burns on his hands BECAUSE HE GOT TO THE B*******. Sorry, I get emotional with this stuff.
  9. I was about to derail another thread by waxing philosophical, so I thought I’d create this one instead. (Sidenote: I nearly placed this in the Preparedness forum, so I apologize if this is the wrong place) Attached is a PDF of Sir John Glubb’s “The Fate of Empires” which is a short (27 pages or so) but does a wonderful job of explaining why we as a society are facing the struggles we currently are facing. Reading it, you would never guess that it was written nearly 70 years ago for a separate society altogether. Highly recommended, but be warned, the prognosis is not positive. LINK:
  10. The currently problem with “Ask the Teachers” is they don’t ask all of us, and then speak for us as if they did. I know of 10 plus teacher just at my school who want to carry, but we are denied by admin without even a conversation. There are also others who agree with the policy, but don’t want to have it known in the building. It’s not about arming unwilling teachers. It’s about not Disarming the willing ones. As for the societal issues… we can’t agree on what makes someone male or female. What makes y’all think we can fix problems infinitely more complex?
  11. Perp didn’t live with mom. My bet is he sent a Suicide/Goodbye text to her, prompting the call
  12. I can't refute the possibility. Like in most things, you have a sliding scale of levels of motivation. A probably significant number of Anti-Gunners probably fall into that category; but amongst them are true believers. Which brings the following quote to mind (if not necessarily in a literal sense): "Somewhere a True Believer is training to kill you. He is training with minimal food or water, in austere conditions, training day and night. The only thing clean on him is his weapon and he made his web gear. He doesn't worry about what workout to do - his ruck weighs what it weighs, his runs end when the enemy stops chasing him. This True Believer is not concerned about 'how hard it is;' he knows either he wins or dies. He doesn't go home at 17:00, he is home. He knows only The Cause."
  13. 1) Concealment is the first form of retention. 2) The same logic applies to all the SROs, but is only used as a negative argument against teachers. And you cant say training or conditioning, because from the last numbers I have seen, 1 in 20 cops killed on the job were killed with their own weapon (admittedly these numbers are from 2000-2011). 3) As for Who's to Blame, even in this straw man circumstance, the answer is the same. The SOB carrying out the attack. 4) As for common denominators, here are the statistics from the 478 active shootings reported by the FBI from 2000-2022 The common denominator is that an immediate civilian response, whether armed or unarmed, has half the casualty rate of a police response. It drops even further with an armed civilian response. In 27 events stopped by armed civilians, attackers caused an average of 3.6 casualties (1.25 dead and 2.4 wounded per event)
  14. I went to college in GA, and know many teachers and coaches in that area. Ive got mutual friends with the male teacher killed. This crap pisses me off so much, because we continue to disarm the teachers who are in the best position to stop this immediately. I'm tired of hearing how an RSO on campus is the solution. Even in the building, we still have 13 shot. In the words of the mutt that Eli Dicken shot in Indiana: “Gun Free Zones are a recent phenomenon that by definition cause them to be easy targets”
  15. Twenty Gauge can be a little harder in a Defensive Semiauto. Semis tend to be pickier with ammo even with a 12. I’d imagine it would be worse with 20g.
  16. That’s actually one I don’t have a problem with. To me that means durable, high linens, high candela, light with a focused beam and good throw
  17. Tactical means whatever they want it to mean, from guns and knives to baby carriers.
  18. I might stop by. My issue is I cant stick around long enough to sell or trade what I have
  19. I just got my first pistol mounted optic (Aimpoint ACRO) delivered, but don’t have it mounted yet, as I’m waiting on my slide to be delivered. I’ve also taken 2 red dot specific classes, an have done a lot of research for a couple years. It boils down to this (assuming the context is defensive use): 1) Get a Quality dot (RMR, Holosun, ACRO) 2) have it direct milled (no plates) 3) DONT Cowitness, this negates the Beni fit of the dot 4) your presentation (drawstroke) needs to be on point. A dot rewards a good presentation, and punishes a bad one. 5) Dots make shot calling a LOT easier
  20. They work, but why do you want one? What are you trying to accomplish that can’t be done with a normal barrel? I find them to be highly unnecessary. With pistol rounds you really aren't getting much in the way of benefits. that said, the counter argument “it’ll mess up your night vision if you shoot it at night” is overblown. Can suck while shooting from compression though.
  21. I believe that open carry is a great law, because you don’t get arrested for a wardrobe malfunction, but believe it to generally be a poor tactic. There are circumstances where it’s a great choice; such as hiking, hunting, while at home, etc. I do also believe there is an argument to be made for carrying openly as a political statement and effort to normalize guns in public in a positive manner (not talking about long guns and plate carriers in Macys, those guys are tools); but in this instance the gun is more of a billboard than a defensive tool There are those bad actors who will be deterred by a gun openly carried, this is true. But there are also those who aren’t, and those are much more dangerous attackers. Prepare for that guy, and you’ll be prepared for the other one too.
  22. Has been proven to happen many times. Plenty of cops have been shot before they knew about there was a robbery going on. More often though, open carriers get their guns stolen off their hip; and that is way more embarrassing, because you have to live through the shame.
  23. Did a pork butt for the in-laws a few days ago. Id love to try a pit like that sometime
  24. Well they, and the local PDs aren’t answering my emails to establish a training program. I have gotten some initial interest outside of Chattanooga however
