Good video on lots of these types of ammo scams that have popped up lately. Not surprised that they might have moved into the realm of components. That’s not pointed at the OP at all, in fact, thanks @Beltfed for posting this and reminding me of the issue. I forgot to post about those scams when I first learned of them.

As a general rule, the indiscriminate nature of a booby trap is what has led to them being illegal. They’re illegal in every single state as far as I know. The fact is, the booby trap doesn’t care who trips it, or why. The legal ability to use force, lethal or otherwise, against another requires the conscious action and judgement of a reasonable person that a threat exists. A booby trap in incapable of meeting that criteria.

I really believe that Glock made a low key genius move with its mag prices. Their OEM mags are about the cheapest of anybody. I think that those mag prices have had a bigger impact on their continued market dominance than anyone really gives them credit for.

I wholly agree that the finger did escalate matters, and lessons can be learned here with regards to it. That said, I can’t see how it escalated matters to the point where the other party blocking MarkS and attempting to enter his vehicle and assault him would be in any way foreseeable when dealing with a rational individual. I wouldn’t see how a jury would really hold it against him.

Agreed on all accounts actually. We may disagree on the state of modern policing, but I think we are in agreement that needlessly antagonizing officers isn’t a smart idea. You’re never going to win a court battle on the side of the road.
