I may disagree with @TGO Davidabout placing any faith in the Republican Party, but if you look back a couple years to 2018 and 2019 he was encouraging everybody here quit being slackers and get involved. By using executive orders to instruct the ATF to change their ruling and declare something that clearly did not meet the definition of a machine gun as a machine gun It’s set president to do that with nearly anything. It wasn’t action taken by rule of law, it was imperial fiat. If you do not see how that relates to the executive actions taken today by President Biden, it’s because you’re choosing not to.

In addition, some of us decried the banning of bump stocks when it happened and warned that it was setting a very bad precedent but we were told to sit down. They shouldn’t have ever been approved in the first place. They were a toy. They had no real legitimate use. When we said it wasn’t about the bump stocks, but the way it was done. He wants to ban the sale and manufacture of “assault weapons” forcing all current owners to register theirs under the NFA. He wants to eliminate all private sales. Currently he works for Gabby Giffords’ gun control group. He was a 25 year vet of the ATF. What did he do there? A lot of this, a little of that. Served on the ATF’s SWAT team, worked on the Waco Branch Davidian trial. But you know, he’s a good guy. He occasionally conceal carries himself.

Ok, to revisit the topic as I said I would: I am wholly retracting my questions on his character and intentions. I was wrong in that. Pincus is mostly guilty of poorly defined messaging, but the 2A community wasn’t the real audience for this piece. Folks outside of it were. When Pincus and Gross (who is a former president of Brady, but left because he changed his mind on the efficacy of gun control and the honesty of those in the movement) speak of “expanded background checks” they are speaking of requiring a BGC for selling a gun to a stranger. Then they bake into it the removal of the state line prohibition and so many exceptions to what constitutes a “stranger” as to render the term almost meaningless. I think the error here was attempting to be clever for their own good and giving the other side a useful quote. “Even gun people support expanded (read as universal) background checks.” I’m in the “not one more inch” camp. We’ve given up too much as it is. I’ll give Pincus credit for trying a different tactic, I just don’t know that it was a good one.

I was only half serious. Whenever something interesting exists, I always ask “can I fit a semi in the lot?” If I really want to go I’ll just park at the TA and Uber over to it.
