I take paid training and practice what I was taught because it is incumbent upon me to do so if I wish to be effective in defending myself or those I am responsible for should the need arise. What I’ve learned in that training is that under stress, my aim goes to crap. The more training and the more practice I do, the less that is true, but it will always be true to some degree. So all my shots are not likely to be all A-zone or CNS 1-shot stoppers. With a few exceptions, most non-catastrophic malfunctions in a semi-auto pistol can be fixed with a new magazine. The ones that can’t make flight a much more attractive option if at all possible. (In addition, the myth of revolver reliability to the point of being wholly malfunction free, is just plain not true. Revolvers are pretty susceptible to malfunctions from foreign objects in the mechanism. In fact, I would argue that a semi auto pistol is generally more reliable and easier to fix when a malfunction does occur.) Finally, I think we’ve all watched enough shooting breakdown videos to gain the knowledge that one or several rounds aren’t guaranteed to make even one attacker, let alone more than one, stop what they are doing. The practical application of that information leads me to carry a 9mm pistol with a minimum capacity of 10rds (though normally 15) and at least 1 larger spare magazine. So, no. As of the early 20th century a 5 or 6 shot revolver was never enough if you wanted an effective defensive weapon. (Why do you think the ‘New York Reload’ was a thing?) Now, if all you’re after is a talisman to feel prepared, then it’s no worse than any other gun shaped one.

Restaurant that serves alcohol current carry laws?
Chucktshoes replied to andersmg's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I’ve long maintained that if drinking makes one unsafe with a gun, it’s not the gun that’s the problem. -
It was never enough.

Restaurant that serves alcohol current carry laws?

You are correct. It is legal to carry in an establishment that serves alcohol, so long as you are not consuming. When that prohibition was removed, it was changed to a two part test where one has to be in an establishment that serves, and is consuming alcohol. Here is the relevant portion of the Tennessee Code. TCA 39-17-1321 39-17-1321. Possession of handgun while under influence — Penalty. (a) Notwithstanding whether a person has a permit issued pursuant to § 39-17-1315 or § 39-17-1351 or § 39-17-1366, it is an offense for a person to possess a handgun while under the influence of alcohol or any controlled substance or controlled substance analogue. (b) It is an offense for a person to possess a firearm if the person is both: (1) Within the confines of an establishment open to the public where liquor, wine or other alcoholic beverages, as defined in § 57-3-101(a), or beer, as defined in § 57-6-102, are served for consumption on the premises; and (2) Consuming any alcoholic beverage listed in subdivision (b)(1). (c) (1) A violation of this section is a Class A misdemeanor. (2) In addition to the punishment authorized by subdivision (c)(1), if the violation is of subsection (a), occurs in an establishment described in subdivision (b)(1), and the person has a handgun permit issued pursuant to § 39-17-1351 or § 39-17-1366, such permit shall be suspended in accordance with § 39-17-1352for a period of three (3) years. -
It varies. Attachment points can be purchased afterwards or included depending on what you select. Different manufacturers have differing options. The rifle attachment points must match the ones on the sling and are purchased separately. If you decide to go with standard button style QD swivels, I recommend ensuring that they are easily removable/replaceable. Otherwise if the QD point breaks, the sling is broken as well. QD swivels absolutely do wear out and break so ya don’t want to end up having to replace an expensive sling for a $5 part.

I’d say here, But it’s also got a paywall for the classifieds. This is one of those moments that I think it’s appropriate to remind folks of an immutable law of the Internet. If you aren’t paying for a service, you aren’t the customer. You’re the product.

Handguns are hard to shoot well. They take a lot of continuing practice to maintain proficiency. Without it, the skill perishes quickly. Rifles are much easier and more intuitive to shoot. With their 4 points of contact, basic skills are much longer lasting. I don’t get to practice a whole lot because of being gone so often. Every time I get to shoot and train I feel like I’m struggling to reacquire the most basic level of proficiency to even feel comfortable carrying a gun at all. I hate it.

Lessons learned from 20 years of GWOT distilled to 20 minutes.

I suspect you’ve found the cause of your perishing skill.

Have you been shooting significantly less lately due to cost and availability the of ammo

TFBtv just dropped a video that very much pertinent to the subject. *language warning* The dude doing the talking spent a career in the combat arms and talks like it.

I think your read of the situation is slightly off here. The NYSRPA is the one bringing the suit. The NRA aren’t really a player here. They went after NYC’s transportation laws last time on the same grounds and NYC changed the law to keep it out of the court. It wouldn’t surprise me if New York State change the law again to keep from having to defend this one. They seem to be really on the ropes. The NYSRPA are doing good work.

The court agreed to hear a challenge to a New York state law that allows residents to carry a concealed handgun only if they can demonstrate a special need beyond a general desire for self protection. The law “makes it virtually impossible for the ordinary law-abiding citizen” to get the necessary license, said Paul Clement, a lawyer representing the challengers. One of them, Robert Nash, said he was wanted to carry a gun in response to a string of robberies in his neighborhood. Another, Brendan Koch, also cited a desire to carry a gun for protection. Both men said they had completed gun safety courses, but both were turned down when they applied for permits. They joined a lawsuit challenging the law brought by the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association. New York bans carrying a handgun openly. The state law says anyone seeking a license to carry a concealed weapon must demonstrate “a special need for self protection distinguishable from that of the general community or of persons engaged in the same profession.” The law is so restrictive, Clement said, that it cannot be reconciled with the Supreme Court’s “affirmation of the individual right to possess and carry weapons in case of confrontation.” https://hotair.com/ed-morrissey/2021/04/26/hmmm-scotus-takes-first-2a-case-in-over-a-decade-n385846

That Magpul sling is a 2 to 1 convertible sling. It does both. That said, while the single point excels in certain uses, most folks will far and away get more use and utility out of a 2 point.

I swear they’re low key the industry’s R&D department. If it was revealed that the big US manufacturers all threw them some coin to keep them afloat, I wouldn’t be surprised. I swear selling guns is a side business to coming up with goofy #### that will be a hit a decade or more down the road.

I wouldn’t, and won’t install it on anything other than a dedicated device.

It’s a Pioneer PLX-1000. It’s essentially a high quality copy of the Technics SL-1200. That said, your old table might not be as bad as you think it is. A lot of vintage equipment has aged pretty well.

Thanks. This is a pic of the full setup (minus the speakers (Elac F-6 floor towers). I’ve got around as much in my vinyl as I do my guns. I really need cheaper hobbies.
