  1. I’ve been against the death penalty for years for multiple reasons. The experience isn’t that new and my statements were directed specifically at Binger and Krause. I’ve long understood that prosecutorial misconduct is much more common that folks like to admit. This was just a glaring and blatant example.
  2. Shughart was joined by Gordon* tonight. *Not a true clone build.
  3. Thanks for the heads up, y’all. The politics section is missing on purpose and that’s not so it can migrate to general off topic. Seeing it creep in a bit more as of late, not just with this post but in a more widespread sense. Please refrain from making explicitly political posts not directly related to 2A related legislation. Thanks for the cooperation.
  4. While I get that thinking, that just isn’t my approach anymore. I’m not going hands on with someone unless absolutely necessary. A fistfight can become a deadly encounter even without someone introducing outside weapons in a blink of an eye. Folks get punched, fall and hit their head or myriad other things and die all the time. It just ain’t worth it. I’m 100% de-escalate up to and including fleeing the altercation until I have no other choice. I got into a lot of fights when I was a younger man. I used to say that I won some and lost some. With the perspective I have now, I lost them all as far as I am concerned because I didn’t avoid them.
  5. Maybe, maybe not. That’s all information that I am sure will part of the investigation. While I lean towards it not being a good shoot, I don’t think any of us have enough information to conclusively say one way or another. At least not in a legal sense. Ethically and morally, I don’t see myself being able to justify the decision that Carruth made that day had I done the same. I’m not excusing Read of his behavior either. His actions surely led to his death, I’m just not convinced it was justifiably done. Yo me this appears to be one of those cases where there are no innocent parties. The decedent, the mother, and the Carruth all appear to me to be in the wrong.
  6. Something that throws an extra factor into the mix regarding justifiable self defense is that one loses the ability to use deadly force if they are involved in a crime at the time. Parental interference is a felony in Texas. The entire argument leading up to the shooting revolves around them not turning over the kid at the court appointed time. https://lawandcrime.com/caught-on-video/attorney-releases-video-of-clients-husband-being-shot-to-death-by-ex-wifes-boyfriend-boyfriend-claims-self-defense/?fbclid=IwAR1ZMw1K0agktHQZkvX9VVc_XHCeCuIcp_eEAV2qNljCPYfhVZzjKT6fU1g
  7. I’d go one further and just say never act this way. Unless the fighters are being paid for it professionally, there’s no such thing as winning a fight between adults. Everyone involved is a loser.
  8. 10.5” AR pistol built from an unmarked BCM blem upper, Maxim Defense PDW brace, JP silent capture springs buffer system(original Maxim springs included), Radian Raptor CH, BCM grips, 17 Defense Manufacturing “We The People” lower. $950 OBO $800 Does not include Eotech 512. This is not a safe queen gun. It was my truck gun when I was an OTR driver and has traveled to all 48 contiguous states. There are usage and mounting marks and it has had over 1k rounds through it. So it’s broken in, but not nearly through much of its lifespan. The lower receiver is new as I replaced it because I wanted to keep the lower it was originally built on. Only selling to recoup funds from the safe I just bought. I’m only available on Fridays and Saturdays to meet, but will ship at buyer’s expense. Ad closed. Breaking up to sell a couple of individual parts.
  9. Ego will get you killed faster than anything else. It’s a sad case all around, especially for the son who lost his father in all of it. At some point he’s going to likely end up seeing the video of his dad getting killed. I can’t imagine how devastating that will be for him.
  10. While I understand the good intentions and such behind this post, I’m going to preemptively take action and close it down. I appreciate that all who have posted so far did so with thoughtfulness and care, but it’s best to not tempt fate any further. Now I’m gonna put the phone down until tomorrow and spend some time with the family. Happy thanksgiving y’all!
  11. Thank you for sharing this with us. I am happy that it turned out as well as it did and your family didn’t lose you that day. Often times we find ourselves making suboptimal decisions on the fly because haven’t thought about what we would do in a particular situation. I hope folks here can use this as a learning experience to “pregame” what to do and options if they were to find themselves in a similar situation. I too think this could be an interesting interview with @TGO Davidon SN.
  12. Eh, the article definitely paints a picture of her being the aggressor here. While I have strong feelings that pursuing someone longer than absolutely necessary to get plate information is not a good idea exactly for the reasons of the final outcome, with the information listed in the article it’s hard to see her as the victim here She hit another motorist, fled the scene, entered her home to retrieve a firearm and then re-engaged with the motorist she initially hit with her car. I’m not declaring the other parties innocent, they may very well be guilty of criminal actions and I’d be interested to see what the investigation turns up. Ultimately it looks like a lot of poor decision making from multiple people resulting in a woman’s death.
  13. Well played.
  14. Hey y’all, how about a little more Rittenhouse, and a little less general politics. Aight? Thanks.
  15. @TGO David
  16. Man, Portland is gonna Portland.
  17. I thought about mentioning that but decided not to. Unlike the AFT I was trying to impart clear and useful information.
  18. This subject was raised a few months back and I was educated and corrected by more knowledgeable members here on the law regarding it. You only need the correct form if you were going to transfer it In a title II status. Removing the stock and replacing it in a brace returns into a title I status and means that you can travel across state lines with it freely. An SBR is only treated as an SBR when it is configured as an SBR. Changing the configuration changes the way it is treated under the law.
  19. I don’t expect any riots.
  20. I’m really hoping that this red pills a lot of folks who didn’t pay a whole lot of attention while prosecutors pulled this kind of #### on folks from the other end of town because “they were probably guilty of something”. They can and will go after y’all just the same if’n they decide it’s what they want to do.
  21. I spent the last 3 weeks watching/listening to a solid 3/4 of the proceedings via the Rekieta stream. It was an excellent and extremely illuminating insight into this case in specific and the legal system as a whole. For me the biggest takeaway is that if the prosecution was willing to go that far and engage in such blatant misconduct when the cameras were on, what are they getting away with when the cameras are off? It was really quite sickening.
  22. Just another thing that’s factually incorrect. They were assailants. Kyle Rittenhouse was found not guilty on the grounds of self defense. That means he was defending himself from assailants and he was the victim of their violent assaults.
  23. @DanielThe major news outlets have definitely been portraying a one sided and inaccurate narrative as to the facts of the case. That said, I do think that the fact that you are familiar with firearms and self defense concepts and laws allowed you to see the obvious in that he was legally justified in his actions. So while you may be able to see the facts, someone else of a particular worldview and without that same foundational grounding may only see the emotional narrative. Then maybe the folks here will only the misinformation and miss the fact based reports because of that. The exact same bull#### can dazzle different folks in different ways.
