If you have to ask if something is ok, the answer is probably no. If it’s the picture I think it is, the answer is definitely no.

This thread has well exhausted the original subject matter and is quickly heading into very bad places.

They keep that up and they will. They can say hi to the guys from DUST when the get there.

Because they ain’t gonna move into Memphis proper. They’re gonna move in the suburbs and exurbs and screw up where I actually live and drive up property values even more than the fleeing Shelby County natives already have pricing all of us out of being able to afford a home.

I’ve been doing a pretty damn good job of telling folks how horrid west TN is I think. The New Englanders move to East TN and the Californians move to Nashville. Both groups leave Memphis and the surrounding areas alone for the most part. If Memphis continuing to Memphis is what it takes to keep those folks out of Crockett/Haywood/Madison then that is a sacrifice I am willing to make.

I’m gonna go against the orthodoxy here and say that she needed to go. Even though the new guy will be measurably worse, she needed to go. The truth is that she wasn’t going to be replaced by better. The city had to get worse before they could understand why they needed to choose better.

Yeah, gotta watch out for them finfins and Altimas.

Would love to change some laws in TN
Chucktshoes replied to DO-TN's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
We actually do have state supremacy with regards to firearms laws in Tennessee. The issue with things like the metal detectors at the fairgrounds are actually a specific carve out granted in the statutes by the state. Signs carrying the force of law is something that many of us find obnoxious and have worked for a long time to change. I would strongly suggest joining and supporting the TFA as they are doing all of the heavy lifting in the fight for that change. The way the TICS system works is fairly obnoxious and I won’t argue with that. However, I will say that in the grand scheme of things, there are better places to spend political capital to make changes in the near and mid-term. The lack of public land that is open and available to shoot on is something that I always make sure that I warn people of who are considering moving here from out west. Public land just simply doesn’t exist in the manner in which it does where you are from. State parks and other public lands here generally are set up for a much higher density of usage than required for the millions upon millions of open acres that you find out west. It sucks, but it is what it is. As far as the carryi of loaded long guns, which is illegal in Tennessee unless directly connected to sporting activity, I too would like to see some change within that realm. That said, you were coming from one of the last vestiges of western culture that exist in this country, and until California started screwing everything up coming in from the West Coast, you generally had a spectrum from very urban to very not going from east to west. The cultures reflected that. The more urbanized the area, the less acceptable that sort of behavior is Not because it’s wrong, it’s just unusual in an urban setting. On that note, the greater metro Nashville area has a greater population than the entirety of the state of Idaho. It may surprise some, but even the very rule parts of Tennessee are very densely populated in comparison to much of the western states that are mostly owned by the federal government. So, I’m not trying to shut you down or tell you you were wrong. Just provide a little context from the perspective of somebody who has spent significant amounts of time out west as well as being from this area. You do bring up things that absolutely could be better. I strongly recommend supporting the Tennessee Firearms Association’s work if you would like to see progress made on those fronts. -

What I find most notable in that collection is the high number of third parties acting on behalf of others. Some random person driving by, sees the robbery in process and then just mows them down with their car. That is indicative of a level of community and shared responsibility that I just don’t know is as present here.

Going to shut this one down as it’s gotten well deep into verboten territory. I do want to thank y’all for keeping it civil. Seriously. Thank y’all.

Exactly. Too many folks didn’t and don’t understand that. So many were clamoring for us to take action that would put us in direct physical conflict with Russian without fully grasping what that would mean. I don’t know about you, but getting involved in a direct conflict with another major nuclear and ultimately global thermonuclear war isn’t on the list of #### I’m remotely interested in.

Thoughts on buying "rental" guns from ranges (unknown round count)?
Chucktshoes replied to moodster's topic in Handguns
A lot cheaper that way too. -
As much as Biden is mostly checked out, he occasionally comes out of the dementia fog and exerts his will. When we got out of Afghanistan was one of those times. His steadfast opposition and hard line against direct action in Ukraine is another. He’s the reason why we didn’t enact a no-fly zone and the reason why things haven’t escalated beyond where they are currently. Harris doesn’t have the political instincts, will, principles, or even the basic intelligence to handle the role. As bad as things may be right now, Harris would be infinitely worse. Y'all all need to be praying for the President’s health.

We will be in a nuclear exchange with Russia in a fortnight if that happens.
