I'll throw in an empty pyramid that I keep getting told will be a Bass Pro someday!

I recently bought a Mossberg 500A self defense model with the 20" barrel and 7 shot magazine and have come to the conclusion that the included pistol grip sucks. As there are a lot of options for aftermarket stocks, grips, etc. I am looking for suggestions as to which ones to consider and which ones to avoid. I want a pistol grip and am leaning towards the idea of a AR style multi position stock and a generally tacticool style setup. I want to avoid wasting my money on crap production pieces. Also looking for suggestions on good slings, shell holders, lights, all the fun useful stuff to put on while avoiding excess weight and making it to cumbersome. I don't mind spending money for quality, but I also don't like throwing it away when there are less expensive alternatives of equal or better quality. Mods that require minor smith work don't scare me as I enjoy the challenge. So, what do ya got?

Well we just got back from the range and I would say things went well. Out of 100 rounds put down range had two FTE's. The wife finds the grip a tad uncomfortable, going to try a rubber slip on grip. I didn't mind the grip but I prefer a more aggressive stipling than she does, soft lady hands an all. She is right next to me so that last line was for her, hehe. Recoil was very manageable with very little muzzle flip. Accuracy was very good, I would say the slim shoots better than either of us do. Gotta give it a provisional thumbs up so far, though we will see after another couple of hundred rounds if the FTE's continue.

So I had a Ruger Mini 14 on layaway went to pay on it Friday. In the time I have had it on layaway two things have happened, prices have started dropping which put me in a position where I was overpaying for it, and I realized that I needed to get my wife a gun before I got myself a toy. While I was talking to the guy at the store about this he informed me that if I wanted to I could take what I had in the Mini 14 and apply it towards another gun since I hadn't completed paying for it, awesome. I walked out of the store with a new Taurus Slim for the Mrs. and had enough left over to get myself a Mossberg 500 after throwing in about $150 more. WOOT!

There is Patriot Military Surplus in Marion just off of I 55. About 10 minutes from the new bridge. Crazy little place...
