1. Ahh, that's a different system. All the retail joints I have worked had actual "paid holidays" that pay the holiday pay to all eligible employees (8hr for full time , 4 for part timers) as long as you worked your scheduled days before and after the holiday. Nothing if you don't, double if you do is pretty crappy.
  2. It is a Jedi mind trick to convince folks to volunteer to work the holiday. A paid holiday earns the day's pay whether you work it or not. If you work the day of you make the 8 hours pay, plus the pay for the hours you actually work. If you don't work the holiday, and are scheduled for 32 hrs, then the pay is the same and it is like getting a paid day off. If you are scheduled for 40 hours only if you work the holiday, then working the holiday is like getting paid double time. If you will be scheduled for 40 hours regardless of whether or not you work the holiday then there is no "double time". Make sense?
  3.
All the more reason that you should be happy for the ones working on holidays. They not only have a job in this economy but they are also making double time.
Who says? I get the same 8 hours of holiday pay whether I work or not. I make nothing extra for working on Turkeyday. In fact, all of the retailers I have worked for were the same way.
  4.
So he brought a hotdog to a gun fight. Lol moron is lucky she didnt shoot his hotdog.
Probably more like a Lil' Smoky.
  5.
Try again.
Why? Are some businesses exempt from ADA requirements?
  6. The owners of PBR have expressed interest in buying Hostess Brands. Watch out, next thing you know Twinkies will only be served in divey little bars to bearded guys wearing winter clothes in the summer.
  7.
I've heard that. and Twinkies were good. Aw, now that Mary Jane and friends bread at Kroger is good stuff, Mac. What ever happened to Sunbeam and Colonial Bread? Those were the good old days.
Don't know about Sunbeam, but Colonial is a Sara Lee product.
  8. The Teamsters agreed to concessions, it was the bakers union that sank them. In fact the Teamsters released a statement that was pretty critical of the bakers union's actions in this whole debacle. At the end, the Teamsters weren't even officially honoring the bakers union picket lines even though some individual drivers wouldn't cross.

Right there with ya. I work retail so I have been dealing with Christmas since August.
  12.
Huh.... The OP was advocating giving gun rights to criminals. And as far as I was aware once convicted of a crime, even domestic violence, you ARE a criminal. Now maybe we live on two worlds but in my world someone who has been convicted or pleads guilty to a crime is a criminal. Dolomite
12 years ago I pled guilty to driving on a suspended/revoked license and also to a charge of "failure to appear" as I missed a court date and didn't realize it was that big of a deal. Spent 3 days locked up for that one. It is my understanding that "Failure to Appear" is a class A misdemeanor. Am I a criminal? I pled guilty to a criminal charge. Your stance doesn't allow for nuance, or for the fact that sometimes folks do stupid crap in their youth and can and do learn from it. Misdemeanor crimes are misdemeanors for a reason. They are minor in nature and not viewed to be so serious as to warrant lifelong consequences. I would offer that "criminal" more aptly describes someone who habitually engages in illegal acts, probably without signs of remorse. I would not necessarily say it describes someone who has pled guilty or been convicted of a crime or crimes based upon a single act or someone who has shown that they have learned from past behavior and lives life in accordance with the law.
  13. I feel like one would be obligated to give a reasoned, nuanced rebuttal to his arguments, but the only response that comes to mind (that he might understand) is, "You my friend, are an idiot!" That guy is an English major? Really? The construction of that column does not speak well of that school's English department. I only have a high school education, so if my sentence construction and grammar aren't top shelf, it is to be expected. What's his excuse?
  14.
Oh man, do I understand your struggle. I spent four years in the wasatch mountains, in Utah. I've NEVER felt more at peace than when I was in the mountains. I put myself at ease, most days, by remembering that I will return to the mountains one day. Here's to hoping we find our way back... Razz
Where were ya? I spent the first year after I got out of the AF living in Ogden /Salt Lake corridor.
  15.
In a conversation in his office in September, he says the bill will NOT include a "Fed Ex" style fenced lot exclusion. We shall see.
Yep. Forgive me if I have a lack of faith in this area. I remember Ronnie courting us gun owners quite heavily when he was running for governor he said a lot then and we know how that turned out.
  16. Imagine that, being responsible for the services you receive as a direct consumer. Imagine that!
  17. If I was a betting man, the bill will include public lots and exclude fenced/secured non-public lots. That's the "compromise" I see being pushed. It would give us the bill, but cover their asses with folks like VW and FedEx. Regardless, it looks like Ramsey got the hint that he needs to produce something quickly.
  18.
I don't understand that. Threads for commercial and mil spec tubes are supposed to be the same, are they not? - OS
It wasn't the threading that was his issue, it was the stock he bought afterwards.
  19.
Then... are you sure about 5.56?
What you did there, I see it.
  20.
I like my toe shoes.
Me too.
  21.
Where were all you guys who are so pissed about losing your rights when the Patriot Act was enacted (or the three further authorizations)? I'm no Obama-apologist, but it strikes me as odd that none of this 'liberty or death' talk was heard when Bush was in office.
We didn't know each other back then but I was walking a very fine line between protected speech and seditious threats to government figures. Pretty much the same as now.
  22.
Yes, it was a stinking mess. That's why it is so puzzling to hear people talking about doing it again. Civil unrest and secession aren't just ideas that you casually float around.
Though we seem to be on the opposite side of the larger issue, I agree with this statement. They are ideas that aren't just casually floated, but who says there is anything casual about this discussion of these topics? The constitution that you, me and many others here swore that oath to defend isn't just about our current administration, or any administration over our history. It is about the ideas of freedom and personal liberty. It was written to protect those ideals and for the people to be able to retain them. The US government lost it's way before our grandparents were born. At this point I truly believe the government to be an enemy of the people of this nation and the constitution we swore an oath to defend. The only way to save the latter, is to destroy to former as reformation is impossible at this point. I could be completely wrong. Maybe in a few years the people and the states will rise up and peacefully reclaim what was stolen from them by the socialist central planners on both sides of the aisle in DC. I hope I am wrong, but I doubt it.
  23.
I think there will also be a heavy racial element to it as well. Lets face it there are a lot more minorities on the dole than whites. Besides the opposition to Obama will be seen by the blacks as racist.
Not quite true. If you don't parse out the percentages of recipients in relation to percentage of population and only look at the raw numbers, there are more whites on welfare. In fact the single largest user of TANF is the single white mother. Believe it or not, there are still more of us crackers in this country than anyone else.
