1.
I'm not dismissing the seriousness of the crime of Domestic Violence or any other crime here...but it does seem to me that our legal system has some very significant inconsistencies and I suspect that many of those inconsistencies are driven by politics and special interest groups which is something that should be resisted.
This is very closely related to hate crimes legislation for me, in that it blurs (or obliterates) the line between criminalizing an action, and criminalizing thought. While motives are useful in understanding why a crime was committed, or to help build the case against who committed the crime, they should never be used as an enhancing element.
 2. I agree with Mike on this one. If you have served your sentence, then your debt has been paid and you should not be forced into a second class citizen role with diminished rights and opportunity. The manner in which we handle ex-cons promotes recidivism. What it boils down to for me is that a gun is nothing more than a tool. If I can't trust you with a gun then I can't trust you with a knife or a screwdriver or a hammer or even a car. All are potential weapons. If you can't be trusted with anything that can be used as a weapon, then how can I trust you to walk free in society?
 3.
If TN were run by referendum, we'd likely have scary weapons ban, no hipcap mags, and no handgun carry. For sure, that would be the nationwide result. Half the actual gun owners in the nation and probably in this state would vote that way too. A lot of Kali state law comes out of their endless referendums. There's a real clue there as to why the USA was set up as a representative Republic and not a pure democracy. - OS
This X eleventy. The Founders held a low opinion of pure democracy as it is nothing more and a tyranny of the majority with zero regard for the rights or liberty of the individual. The closer we have moved in that direction, the more problems we have created in this nation.
 4. He doesn't search, and you get fired.
 5.
In theory, true...but i practice, its not quite that simple. I've worked with HR departments several times on matters of the dispopsition of "less than ideal" employees, and quite frankly, IME its easier to scrape barnacles off the hull of a ship than to let employees go "for cause" unless they make some egregious violation (ie, deliberately hurt someone at the workplace, steal a significant amount of company money/property, commit a violent crime while in the workplace, etc), . Its far easier to simply relocate them within an organization to where they do the least damage, or wait until there's a downsizing and let them get caught in the outward flow. I've actually had the theoretical conversation about an employee possessing in their car in violation of a company policy (where property is NOT properly posted) with some HR folks, HR attorneys and security folks at several businesses. None could tell me why the policy is written as such, other than to say that it came down from corporate legal management. None could tell me that such violation was, in their opinion, a "firing" offense unless the company was already looking for a reason to get rid of someone...and even then it was not likely to be singled out as the reason for departure, but instead used to substantiate looking further for more tangible demonstrations of insubordination. So no, I don't think you'll see many counterclaims, just as you do not see many/any firings for violating said policy. Disclaimer: this is based upon my experience in the NE corner of the state...all bets are off for points west, who largely consider themselves to be the real Tennessee anyway.
Working in retail management, I have to say my experiences have been very similar. The larger the entity, the larger the HR/legal department, the harder it is to get fire people.
 6. If she pulls a Naifeh, then I think she will get Maggarted. Next election.
 7. I would posit that this whole argument is a moot point anyways as nobody is actually a property owner. Through the imposition of property taxes and the ability of the government to take that property for nonpayment of said taxes or nearly any other reason it wants, thanks to Kelo, so called property owners are really nothing more than tenant serfs.
 8. It is all about the blind drops.
 9. Smith's MSRP hasn't gone up, but in the defense of some of the brick and mortars that do have them at elevated prices, they may not be at fault here. I know that at the store I work at, the distributor that actually had them in stock has raised their prices on them. We essentially had to pay retail to even get them into the store. So our choices were to raise our prices, sell at a loss, or lose the sales entirely due to no stock. We raised our prices and still have no trouble selling them. I wouldn't expect prices to come down if they stay up for very long. The value of anything is whatever the market will bear. I have always viewed the M&P Sport as underpriced. When you look at build and component quality compared to other makers who charge $2-300 or more for their rifles (DPMS, Stag, Bushmaster, etc.) the Sport is a better rifle. Even if you feel that a forward assist and dust cover are essential, you can buy a stripped upper swap it out and sell the original upper and be out all of an extra $50 and still have a better rifle for hundreds less than most other mid grade rifles. That's enough saved that is better spent on a case .223. -Disclaimer- Though I mention I work at a gun shop, I do not mention it by name because these opinions are mine alone and I in no way speak for the shop.
 10.
Point I'm making is that folks seem to sink all the blame into our corrupt, overreaching government and ignore that we're the ones that put them there. Until we can accept that we can't fix the problem.
I can fully agree with that. It does amuse me however than when I vote for the only candidates that actually have a platform that values individual libertyand states rights, I am told I am "wasting my vote" because I don't support either of the big two statist parties. That being said, I still maintain that at this point the progressives have won and it is all over for this country but the shooting. Pick your line and choose your time to die because the majority won't fight back or choose freedom until the illusion of choice that they have now is stripped away when those running the show quit having to pretend.
 11. Meh. I volunteer for turkey day so I can be off on Christmas. For all of the bad points of my employer, they at least attempt to be equitable in the dispensing of misery amongst the employees.
 12.
Gotta get me some of that [s]Obama[/s] Reagan Phone.
FTFY
 13.
The enemy isn't in Washington. The enemy is in the mirror.
No, I know where my line is. If you don't have a line, if you are willing to give up all pretense of liberty to avoid the inevitable then the enemy is you.
 14.
You're right; it's time to give up on the Constitution and peaceful ways to effect change...it's far better to grab our "assault" rifles (before Obama confiscates them) and fight another civil war in our streets and among our homes while our children duck and cover....yeah...that's the answer!
Damned if ya do, damned if ya don't. The majority of the country has knowingly and willfully chosen European style socialism. The degradation of individual rights and personal liberty will only continue. While most who are involved in the discussion of secession wish for a peaceful outcome, I don't think anyone really believes it will be nice or easy even if in the extremely unlikely event it were to happen. Creating a new government is by its nature problematic and full of strife. All that being said, what are you willing to acquiesce to avoid bloodshed? How far down the road to slavery are you willing to travel to remain comfortable and safe? Where is your line? That is what this conversation is about for me. When do I stop ignoring the oath I took and begin defending the constitution against the domestic enemies in Washington? At what point am I willing to risk everything for a chance at true freedom? Something none of us in this country has ever actually known.
 15.
That opinion piece is a good one, Daniel. I imagine the red states could handle the debt better than the blue ones have. They would stop adding to it and probably have a better chance to pay it off, than the blue states could. Plus the administrative cost of the bureacracy in DC would be gone. I wonder how much that is. The red states would also go to privatization of a lot of necessary services that DC already forces on us. Not that I am for any of this talk of secession, but if it ever came to it, I would bet the red states would be better stewards of their debt than the bozos in DC are proving out to be.
Agreed. I think that the Op-Ed piece is working off of the assumption that entitlements would remain essentially unchanged. I would assert that is a seriously flawed premise. A more likely scenario, I think, would be a near elimination of welfare/social safety net programs in the former red states and very possibly a migration of poor to the former blue states that maintained generous welfare programs prior to final severance of the two new countries. Combine that with the likelihood of a more favorable business atmosphere with a lower corporate tax rate and no Obamacare in the former reds and you may see some business headquarter migration as well. All conjecture of course, but I think a far more plausible scenario than assuming a maintenance of the status quo post split.
 16. Ahh, that's a different system. All the retail joints I have worked had actual "paid holidays" that pay the holiday pay to all eligible employees (8hr for full time , 4 for part timers) as long as you worked your scheduled days before and after the holiday. Nothing if you don't, double if you do is pretty crappy.
 17. It is a Jedi mind trick to convince folks to volunteer to work the holiday. A paid holiday earns the day's pay whether you work it or not. If you work the day of you make the 8 hours pay, plus the pay for the hours you actually work. If you don't work the holiday, and are scheduled for 32 hrs, then the pay is the same and it is like getting a paid day off. If you are scheduled for 40 hours only if you work the holiday, then working the holiday is like getting paid double time. If you will be scheduled for 40 hours regardless of whether or not you work the holiday then there is no "double time". Make sense?
 18.
All the more reason that you should be happy for the ones working on holidays. They not only have a job in this economy but they are also making double time.
Who says? I get the same 8 hours of holiday pay whether I work or not. I make nothing extra for working on Turkeyday. In fact, all of the retailers I have worked for were the same way.
 19.
So he brought a hotdog to a gun fight. Lol moron is lucky she didnt shoot his hotdog.
Probably more like a Lil' Smoky.
 20.
Try again.
Why? Are some businesses exempt from ADA requirements?
 21. The owners of PBR have expressed interest in buying Hostess Brands. Watch out, next thing you know Twinkies will only be served in divey little bars to bearded guys wearing winter clothes in the summer.
 22.
I've heard that. and Twinkies were good. Aw, now that Mary Jane and friends bread at Kroger is good stuff, Mac. What ever happened to Sunbeam and Colonial Bread? Those were the good old days.
Don't know about Sunbeam, but Colonial is a Sara Lee product.
 23. The Teamsters agreed to concessions, it was the bakers union that sank them. In fact the Teamsters released a statement that was pretty critical of the bakers union's actions in this whole debacle. At the end, the Teamsters weren't even officially honoring the bakers union picket lines even though some individual drivers wouldn't cross.
