  1. No, it isn't a straw purchase. It is perfectly ok to buy a gun as a gift.
  2. If my position seems extreme, then you need a little historical perspective. I think this little story from LawDog explains better than I could. Source- http://thelawdogfiles.blogspot.com/2010/09/ok-ill-play.html
  3. In this case it is. We have only begun to reclaim some of the full breadth of our 2A rights from the unconstitutional encroachments of over a century of war on individual liberty by the progressive left. The idea of a national FOID is not only going to be ineffective to actually perform any useful purpose, it is just damn dumb. Not just no, but F NO!
  4. Our enslavement by the government is inevitable. So, instead of fighting it, we should help fashion the shackles and chains so we can have some input into how they will fit. They won't be as burdensome then.
  5. We discussed risks with my wife's OB during her pregnancy and a decision was made to limit her shooting prior to deliver for a couple of reasons. First was the exposure to airborne lead particles on an indoor range. The second was the unknown risk to the child's hearing after she developed ears in utero. Unborn children react to sound stimuli, so there would be an unknown level of risk to her developing ears. If an outdoor range had been available to us it would have changed things, but as we are limited to indoor shooting, it wasn't an option for us.
  6. Maybe I should clarify. If the state is the one charging fees or taxes to exercise a right, then the cost is excessive. If the expenses arise from needing to purchase materials, supplies, etc on the open market, then that is acceptable as it is not the government providing the impediment to the exercising of those rights. The government has no responsibility to facilitate the exercising of rights, it just cannot impede them in any way. See the difference?
  7. I don't want to see an end to our permit system, I value the reciprocity with other states. I just think the cost is excessive to the point of unconstitutionality. We don't pay poll taxes when we vote to cover the costs of holding elections and we shouldn't have to pay a couple of hundred to the state and private entities to carry arms for self defense either. My solution is to add constitutional carry alongside our current permit system. As far as not wanting folks to carry around cheap junk handguns, well, I don't think that is your choice to make. Masaad Ayoob wrote an article a number of years ago on that subject that I imagine most of us have read but I will repost as I think it is pertinent to this conversation. http://www.backwoodshome.com/articles/ayoob62.html
  8. Should the ability to carry a gun be limited to only those that can afford "a decent handgun"? How much is a reasonable amount for it to cost to vote? The cost of the permit is, in my opinion, directly equivalent to poll taxes. They are an unconstitutional tax on the exercise of a constitutionally acknowledged right.
  9. Nah, I say get hogs. I mean those kinda dogs are cool and all, but they are a lot of work and you can't feed the bodies to the dogs like you can hogs. Plus, the hogs will eventually give you back bacon.
  10. I like the cut of your jib.
  11. I have one on my AR. They do not reduce the weight of the trigger pull. What they do is reduce/ eliminate the creep and grit of trigger pull by getting rid of the pretravel. They are a bargain at twice the price. I mean that literally.
  12. Even more pressing is the need to regulate people who ARE tools!
  13. Eff 'em. The Republican Party are nothing more than New Deal Democrats. They will either foster the rise of a viable liberty centered third party by their revealing themselves for the big government statists they are, or they will hasten the start of the inevitable shooting war that will occur when the citizenry finally realizes that the government has become their enemy. Both are fine with me.
  14. Good story. Especially coming from a New Yorker with zero prior gun experience.
  15. Just goes to show why it is a great thing there are choices. I HATE the silver/white circles on the Trijicon night sights. They are distracting and cause me problems gaining a sight picture. I love my Trijicon Reflex on my AR, but for a handgun, I will stick to my Tru-Glow Sights.
  16. Still sticking with the smaller sized gun, has she considered using a belly band? That may be a slightly more functional method of carry.
  17. On the grounds that I may incriminate myself, I am going to exercise my 5th Amendment right and not answer that question. ;)
  18. True story.
  19. Thanks, I knew I was leaving one out.
  20. All threads on a gun forum, if continued long enough, will eventually morph into 9 v 45, Glock v 1911, AR v AK or all three.
  21. I'd say the iPhone far surpasses the Dick Tracy gadget.
  22. We have been very fortunate that the folks who engage in these types of rampages seem to be uniformly incompetent in the use of their weapons.
  23. and that's why we ask these kinds of questions.
  24. I have considered determining the feasibility of adding 1/2" steel plate to the empty space areas of my Xterra between the outer skin and the interior panels. It is already a gas guzzler, what's a few hundred extra pounds?
