I see/hear this kind of thing said often and it drives me nuts. Folks tend to think that because they live in a "nice" neighborhood that they are safe. Or that "things like that don't happen here!" Well, actually if folks would look at the crime reports, yes, they do happen in your neighborhood. I liken burglaries and home invasions to the job hunting in a depressed area. If there aren't any jobs in your town, you move to where the jobs are. If you live in a nice area where folks have lots of nice, high end electronics, gadgets and recreational items, then for someone who has stealing for a job, you live where their job is. Unless the home invasion is drug dealer related, folks ain't invading folks in the hood for property. Nobody is blaming the victim, but the hard facts are that some behaviors are more likely to lead to negative outcomes. A young girl putting herself in a condition of diminished capacity in a fluid and uncontrolled environment with people that are unknown and also possibly of diminished capacity is one such situation. Rape is not an unforeseeable outcome. I would even go so far as to posit that it is an outcome that is about even odds of occurring.

Neighbors who then believe it is appropriate to use the government threat of violence to enforce their will. Agreed. I don't think anyone is disputing the validity of a voluntarily entered into contract such as an HOA. Some of us just don't like them, so we won't enter into those contracts. What about the person who owned their property prior to their neighbors electing some busybodies who then enacted a law requiring action by that landowner in regards to their property? While the intended purpose may be admirable (collective protection of property values and community standards) too often they are filled with busybody jerkoffs who wish to make their neighbors conform to their will. As long as you are from the government it is. As has been alluded to and stated fairly clearly in multiple threads here, at this point in time the government in this country and those that populate it from top to bottom have become enemies of the people and of the Constitution. The state and local houses of government are filled with petty tyrants and some of them have aspirations of joining the real tyrants in Washington.

This is a subject that is one of the few that makes me remember that I am spoiled as a Memphian when it comes to our water.
