The leftists think I'm some sort of crazy right winger because I simply suggest that people should be free. The right wingers think I'm some sort of crazy leftist for the very same reason. Neither one realizes that they are the same as the other. As for hopping on a plane, I think I'll just stay put because the government is the one that sucks. I'm just gonna keep asking "why not try freedom instead?"
-
While on the whole I agree with this, I view the black community as the proverbial canary in the coal mine. For myriad reasons the effects of government actions are more pronounced there. What's happening there is coming to a neighborhood near you.
-
Right?! The amount of folks who talk about valuing freedom and then turn around and justify, excuse, and defend the legitimacy of an entity that makes them less free with every passing day is astounding isn't it? That at is what you meant,, right?
-
See, I just see a whole lot of folks exercising their right to speak their conscience. Some hold one view, some another. I haven't really seen anyone attempting to use the force of the government to silence anyone on this subject. So, any claims that anyone is "repressing free speech" are just a spurious argument used to deflect against criticisms of their position, regardless of what that position is.

Why should those who condemn Kaepernick be free of condemnation themselves? Aren't their words just as open to dissection and analysis and his?

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/murder-4-words-kaeper-critics-won-tackle-article-1.2769870 "So instead, they change the subject once more to imaginary military slights he never stated. Last night, Kaepernick clarified that too: “I have great respect for the men and women that have fought for this country. I have family, I have friends that have gone and fought for this country." And then, Kaepernick explained the tragic hypocrisy: “This country isn’t holding up their end of the bargain… men and women that have been in the military have come back and been treated unjustly, and have been murdered by the country they fought for, on our land. That’s not right.” No. That’s not right. It’s criminal. Walter Scott, killed by officer Matthew Slager on video, was a US Veteran. So was India Kager, Kenneth Chamberlain and others. Scott was not only shot while running away, but the original police report was falsified so Slager could “get away with murder." Slager, who is still awaiting trial, wasn’t just a “bad apple,” he was part of a police cover-up. Slager never honored Scott’s past military service. He murdered him. A flag does not inherently represent soldiers. That is a lifetime of political brainwashing talking. Claiming Kaepernick’s act as an insult to soldiers is as logically twisted as claiming standing up for the flag honors Micah Johnson and Gavin Long — the two military veterans who killed police in Dallas and Baton Rouge. Neither statement makes any damn sense."

"If they take football away, my endorsements from me, I know that I stood up for what's right." - Colin Kaepernick How many of you are willing to risk your livelihood, take an unpopular stance for liberty, speak out against injustice, and stand up for what's right? This gentleman also makes a very solid point.

Policy wonk proposes practically eliminating cash
Chucktshoes replied to Hershmeister's topic in General Chat
My response to that will be something along the lines of "if you don't gtf away for me the only thing I'm going to be hiding is my ____ in your ____!" -
Policy wonk proposes practically eliminating cash
Chucktshoes replied to Hershmeister's topic in General Chat
Cash=anonymity=freedom. Even if the government eliminated cash people would develop some sort of alternative hard-currency or just use straight barter. The ability to use cash or hard-currency to hide purchases from the prying eyes of the government is a feature, not a bug. -
Jury duty is one of the ways in which folks can do the most good in society. It isn't just the juror's right, but his/her duty to judge not only the guilt or innocence of the accused but the justness of the law itself. If there is no victim there is no crime and 'society' can't be a victim. Any opportunity one can take to keep the state from stealing from folks or locking them in cages shouldn't be wasted.

Me too. Then when I got in here and read the thread I was all like:

He will be missed.

I really like the looks of that. Might build one with that trigger just for ####s and giggles.

The risk to folks not in commercial trucking being caught using the red diesel are very low. To be honest, I don't think they are really even worried about private vehicles.

This is probably very close to the truth. In the last few years so much of the forensic "science" used to convict folks of crimes has turned out to be utter crap. Widespread fabrication of results in crime labs (even the much vaunted FBI forensics lab) has put a lot of heat of folks to actually be able to prove that crap is real, repeatable and verifiable. Tons of possibly innocent folks sittin in prison right now with cases on appeal over the outright lies of forensics techs.

New Assault Weapon ban in Massachusetts
Chucktshoes replied to xsubsailor's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Correct. This action essentially bans all semi automatic rifles (and possibly handguns) from sale in the state. Anyone wanna take bets on how long before she issues an opinion that any sold in the last 10 years were illegally sold and must be surrendered? -
Nope. You've only defended every single officer accused of wrongdoing and objected to any efforts to have an objective record of events available to verify what actually happens in police/citizen interactions with exhortations to simply trust the officers. Nevermind the myriad reasons to do exactly the opposite that have brought us to the place we are at now.

http://www.ar500armor.com/level-3-recall.html AR500 Armor® Level III Body Armor Recall (Plates Shipped between February 23rd 2016 and March 23rd 2016) AR500 Armor® is voluntarily recalling and replacing, at no cost to our customers, Level III body armor that was shipped between February 23rd 2016 and March 23rd 2016 with a manufacture date of February 2016 or March 2016. Only this armor is being recalled. The body armor can fail to meet Level III standards, increasing the risk of a bullet penetrating the armor causing injury or death. Customers with potentially affected level III products should immediately stop use of the product until you hear more from us. AR500 Armor® has identified almost all of the customers who were shipped the recalled plates and will be shipping replacement plates to all of those customers today. Upon receipt of your replacement plates, it is very important that you return the old plates to AR500 Armor® following the instructions on the box. It is illegal to sell recalled products. This recall and replacement is necessary because a supplier of some certified ballistic grade steel failed to disclose to AR500 Armor that some of its steel failed certain ballistic tests until after the body armor had been distributed.AR500 Armor® has been working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission since March 26th, 2016 to approve and initiate this recall. Upon the return of the recalled plates, a $40 web store credit will be issued to you. If you have Level III plates with the February or March 2016 manufacture date and do not receive replacements or want to verify whether you will receive replacement plates contact us at the toll free number listed below. Date of manufacture can be found in the back of the body armor plate:

Like I said before, it's a lot quicker to explain what it is that you actually understand. I will grant that you are right about one thing, it is pretty pointless for you and I to engage on this issue. Though not for the reasons you think. You appear to be more interested in protecting your presuppositional worldview than in the actual problems or the actual solutions to those problems. Here is the hard truth. You say that "the American will support their police officers" yet you completely ignore the reality that a significant portion of the population doesn't view the police as their own. If you can't see the reality of that, then you can't change the reality of that. If we really want to stop this from spiraling out of control then we need to change that state of affairs. Your simplistic views and solutions will only result in more dead citizens and more dead officers.

I believe this to be a crucial first step towards alleviating the tensions between police and their communities. Violent force needs to return to being the very last resort. Whether it actually is or not, the perception exists that it is the go to option for police when dealing with the public. As long as that is the case, progress will be very hard to make. I think another crucial thing we need to do is reevaluate the job we expect police to do. There are so many so called crimes against which exist laws that police are expected to enforce (and that's what policing is, the exercise of force by the government) that should not even be crimes in the first place that it puts police officers in an impossible position. I'm of the opinion that if police are going to exist at all, their focus needs to be on crimes involving an actual victim. If we can't point to an actual victim whose life, liberty or property have been violated then it isn't a job for police. "Broken windows" policing may have given the appearance of an orderly society but it has also separated officers from the populace they serve and in some communities turned them into something more akin to a foreign occupying force than agents of peace. That has to change.
