  1. I’ve actually moved outside of Memphis up to the Dyersburg area, but I’ve heard good things about Shoot Point Blank and there’s always Classic Arms, though I’d recommend dealing with Greg there.
  2. The more information that comes out, the worse it looks for Peterson and the BCSO. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/disgraced-parkland-deputy-heard-shots-inside-school-building-told-cops-to-stay-away/ar-BBK2rkJ?ocid=spartanntp I have never been shy about my criticisms of policing in America and will not deny my biases, but this isn’t about that. This is about the failures of these specific officers/deputies in this specific instance. A gross and overwhelming failure to fulfill a moral duty (there is no legal duty to do so) to protect those who cannot protect themselves.
  3. As a Memphian, I can’t help but smile a little. Sure, we’ve had some crooks running the joint, but at least ours don’t get caught while in office. Prince Mongo for Mayor!
  4. While an imperfect analogy, I like the gas tank premise. In this context it serves as a reminder that the choice is made on a daily basis. The decisions we make on how we live life on the daily will have great effect on how we react if we find ourselves in the worst scenarios. Nobody can really tell for certain how they will react when put under the crucible, but I do believe that one can increase the likelihood of one path or another.
  5. Would we have more support for Walmart and Dick’s to choose the manner in which they engage in commerce with someone else if they made wedding cakes?
  6. I’ve paid attention to this blog for several years now. This post starts with the Parkland shooting but touches on several interlocking topics and is one of the better things I’ve read in a while. Here’s a small excerpt.
  7. I bet they were. Even when they are chill they look like they mean business.
  8. If he had his entire class in that room with him I would agree with you. But he made it back to the classroom with approximately 1/3 of his charges. That means that 2/3 of the students who were under his care were left out in the wild to fend for themselves. When called on it, his response is that he stuck to protocol. Was it protocol to be on the phone with news organizations giving interviews while you were in that classroom and your students are at the mercy of a psychopath? I’m not so forgiving or prone to laud this man is a hero under those circumstances. Edited to add: A friend of mine on another message for me this observation. “ There's been an awful lot of "just doing what I was told" excuses coming out of adults after this shooting. The sheriff's department, and now this teacher. How do they live with themselves?” The answer to that question is they actually get to live. Unlike the kids that they all failed and let die.
  9. It just keeps getting worse and worse. These kids were failed by nearly adult there. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2018/03/04/florida-students-say-hero-teacher-really-coward-who-left-them-die/393191002/
  10. It’s an affordable, lightweight, accurate, reliable, easily configurable rifle. What’s not to like? I have a few and some stripped lowers that I’ve not built up, but my interest has moved towards battle rifles as of late and I started with the best in that category. The FAL.
  11. Well, when folks elect a populist, they shouldn’t be surprised when he latches onto whatever is popular at the moment.
  12. My takeaway was a bit different. Well behaved dog, regardless of “service” dog status =cool Il-mannered dog, regardless of “service” dog status = not cool pretending that your untrained cur is a “service” dog= really un-####ing-cool
  13. Man has he really stepped in it with this one. This is the one issue that I believe can have his base throw him overboard as fast as he is willing to throw over every other position he supposedly stands for http://thezman.com/wordpress/?p=13049
  14. Unlike many, I actually paid attention to what he had said over the course of many years and not just what he said on the campaign trail.
  15. Am I the only one just sitting back and laughing at the ridiculousness of it all? I’ve really got the urge to pick up fiddle playing and some asbestos clothing.
  16. This is the kind of outside the box I’m talking about!
  17. You know what I would find real supportive in an animal? A monkey that will fling poo on command. I need to work on getting one.
  18. Dick’s did quit selling ARs and such after Sandy Hook but they continued to sell them in Field & Stream stores. They’ve gone much, much farther than they did last time. Here is their statement straight from the horse’s mouth Could they virtue signal any harder?
  19. Other than 4 special interest message boards, I eliminated my social media presence this past year and I literally feel healthier. I’m much less stressed out and I almost completely miss the latest outrage of the hour. I strongly encourage anyone and everyone to kill Facebook, instagram, Twitter, etc. and if you’re worried about losing touch with family or friends that live elsewhere, I have a simple suggestion to overcome that. Take your smartphone and make a phone call with it!
  20. Here’s some interesting data. https://news.northeastern.edu/2018/02/schools-are-still-one-of-the-safest-places-for-children-researcher-says/
  21. Very solid start. It didn’t come off like the first episode of a new podcast. Good guidance of the discussion to prevent rabbit trailing and a solid mix of voices to keep it interesting and fresh throughout the conversation. It really seems like you already have a definite vision and voice which often takes a while for a podcast to find. Well done. There’s a lot of potential here and I think you have a solid product.
  22. Got it downloaded. Will listen when I get a chance.
