  1. Excellent, Erik. Chip away at the negative narrative bit by bit and eventually it crumbles. That brings up another vitally important point from the discussion. The media narrative of the black gun owner needs to be changed to more accurately reflect the truth. When I still worked in the retail in Memphis I was open about being a gun guy. Most of my coworkers were black and I took any that were up for the experience to the range. More than a few took me up on the offer. I wish I had steered more towards the NRA at the time. (This discussion helped remind me that for all my complaints with them, there is still a lot of good history and potential for more good from them. Membership getting renewed post haste.) I also discovered that quite a few, especially the young black men had been steered towards Lorcins, Cobras, Jennings, Jimminez, etc. at the gun shops they visited. These were guys looking to have a gun to defend themselves and their families. Why would anyone steer them towards crap like that? I knew the answer then like I know it now and it still pisses me off. I know it probably seems like I focus quite a bit on the subjects of race as it relates to us gun owners but that is borne of my experience as a Memphian who worked in and around inner city urban areas. Whether I risk sounding paternalistic and/or opportunistic, I believe that there is the ability to strengthen the position of gun owners by making a concerted effort to bring more black folks into the gun rights political fold. In doing so we may be able to force the Democrats to back off from being the party of full disarmament if one of their key constituencies starts telling them they aren’t about that gun ban business.
  2. Killer Mike is a rapper who campaigned for Bernie in the last election. He’s also a hardcore 2A advocate in the black community, an NRA member and a Southerner. Over the last couple of weeks he has received a lot, and I mean A LOT of flack over this interview that he did on NRA TV with Colion Noir. While he has made statements since the release taking issue with how it was initially utilized to contrast with the March for Our Lives (which was discussed in the video) I think there is a lot that can be learned from in this discussion. It’s long, but I believe well worth the watch. To anyone one who does take this journey with me, are there any points that really stuck out to you? For me there are definitely a few, such as his specific criticisms of the Democratic Party and white progressives not being real allies to black folks and how the NRA played a vital role during the civil rights era.
  3. You know, while I understand the desire to appreciate a fine military instrument for its original use and design, there is something to be said for the bubbas. They took that weapon designed for military use and adapted it to suit their normal “sporting” purposes and made it normal and unremarkable. Kinda like all the folks that shoot competitions and hunt with ARs and the other scary black rifles. So do your thing, Bubba!
  4. It doesn’t matter who the victims or the perps are when it’s a gun problem.
  5. That’s a great post, but your math is slightly off. You need to add a zero to your 10% and 1% totals. 10% would be 10 million and 1% would be one million. Think about that. If only 1% of gun owners sought to actively defend their rights by any means necessary, it would equal the size of the entire amount of US Army, active and reserve.
  6. Yes, they did. It is my understanding that they were playing loophole games with the ordinance and the lawyers finally said no more.
  7. It really is. It is the only way I buy music, and I buy A LOT. Speaking of which, the version of The Ballad of El Goodo on that Big Star best of is the best I have ever heard that song sound. It nearly brought tears to my eyes it sounded so beautiful. All the clarity and detail that is missing from crappy, compressed digital files just reminds you of the genius of that trio of boys from Memphis and why their fingerprints are all over guitar driven popular music in the 80s/90s.
  8. I was home this past weekend and this is what things sounded like on my hifi.
  9. When it comes to red dots in this price range, I’m a big fan of Primary Arms. I have one of their advanced micro red dots on an AR. While I wouldn’t call it a “go to war” sight, it’s rugged, holds zero, has great battery life, and clear glass. All in all it’s a much better product than one would expect for its price point.
  10. I admit to a second purpose in my debates with folks on the other side. I also plainly state what the consequences of ‘success’ very possibly may be. Then I was just accused of making veiled threats and I had to apologize because I thought I was being quite explicit. I liken my position to that of someone yelling at kids playing in a busy street. If they persist, it will end very badly in a way that nobody wants to see happen.
  11. Not bad. I’m currently involved in a debate with a bunch of anti-gun folks. I’m just trying to get them to drop the code speak. Be honest about what you want. I am. Even if we will never see eye to eye, we can at least understand where the other is really coming from because the code words mean different things to them and us.
  12. Neither. There have always been men like him who seek power, and there will always be men like him who seek power. They are the men who are the reason why we jealously guard our right to keep arms.
  13. I wonder how much other stuff Tapatalk is screwing up for you guys. Just sayin’.
  14. I’m gonna call Bushmaster as toast. That’s a brand name that is too toxic to salvage.
  15. An honest enemy I can respect. A false friend not so much.
  16. I can at least respect the honesty of his position.
  17. It’s nice to know Memphis isn’t the only city y’all hate.
  18. Do you have to have the same console system to be able to play with/against someone else online? Are there separate Xbox/Sony servers? I’m not a gamer, but I figure that might impact the choice.
  19. I got off of FB and all of the other major social media apps because I recognized the negative ways they affected my mental and emotional health. The majority of the population hasn’t come to the same conclusion and therefore I recognize the threat that social media’s influence has on my interest. While you may feel that it is useless, don’t underestimate how fearsome of an enemy it has the potential to be.
  20. For all of those throwing up the “no big deal, I don’t care” flag, how many of y’all have AR “pistols”? This exact same reasoning would easily and quite logically apply to a reversal of prior rulings that declared AR/AK/CZ Scorion/whatever utilizing a brace/buffer tube as pistols instead of a short barrel rifle.
  21. I’ve not had the chance to check one out but I know we have a few fans of the Canik line here.
  22. I thought that the only person trying to renew the CCCP was Putin. Oh wait, different thing. Nevermind.
  23. By the nature of how they are organized, schools are an arm of the government and bound by the same rules. Your employer doesn’t have to play by those rules because it is a private entity.
  24. Bravo to the school resource officer for living up to his moral duty and protecting those in his charge.
  25. I sloved that with a lifetime. Worth it for the lack of hassle alone.
