  1. Thanks, y’all. Now this won’t be a “showroom ready” restoration nor will it be a Pirate4x4 style crazy project. The Scouts were small but formidable farm trucks, and when she’s done she’s still gonna be that. If I just want to tool around town in my cool looking OG SUV or head down to Lowe’s and get stuff for a project, she’ll handle that. If I want to load her up with a bunch of crap and drive out to the mountain west to go hunt elk, she’ll be down for that as well. *On a side note, here is a moment for me to talk about how much I hate seatbelt laws. I like seatbelts. I think they are a great safety device. I always use them and I probably should install them in the Scout, but she didn’t come with them originally and this gives me a chance to give the bird to the .gov by running around without them legally. The stupidity of the law may well prevent me from choosing the safer option.
  2. Sooo, @56FordGuy found a 1965 IH Scout 80 that has spent the last 15 years sitting in a rancher’s field up in Wy-gnome-ing. Well, I bought the damn thing. We are in the planning stages right now for what direction the restoration will go, but he will be documenting its progress on his YouTube channel. (I’ll post a link once the first video goes up.) I’m really excited as I have loved the Scout and wanted one for years. Folks love to go on about the early Bronco, but the Scout came first. Here she is as she sits today.
  3. The longer I carry the more deeply I move into the “concealed means concealed” camp. It’s all about risk aversion for me.
  4. It’s a Peterbilt.
  5. You think it looks good in my crappy iPhone pic, you should see it in person and feel it. If I make my way through Nashville while it’s on the truck, I’ll gladly let you work her out a bit.
  6. Thanks!
  7. I was making a reference to the ubiquitousness of pt belts for army folks in Iraq.
  8. Finally got her all put together and set up. Now to find somewhere on the road to see what she can do. Montana Rifle Company American Standard Rifle in .308 Nightforce NXS 3.5-15x50 Harris Bipod leather sling
  9. Here’s an article I found to be very helpful for approaching and handling the subject with people in your life. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/07/health/depression-suicide-helping.html
  10. It’s like a reflective belt for your rifle!
  11. The government does have limits of liability and those limits here are effectively zero.
  12. I bet it is an attempt to garner goodwill and head off getting named in the lawsuit. Especially since the fbi won’t be paying dick.
  13. Murderers, and violent crime in general, are concentrated in very small areas in this country. 54% of counties have zero murders and 51% of the murders in this country occur in just 2% of the counties. https://crimeresearch.org/2017/04/number-murders-county-54-us-counties-2014-zero-murders-69-1-murder/
  14. This was actually just a couple blocks away from my in-laws, right next to the high school my wife graduated from.
  15. The real takeaway is that one needs to ensure that when they’re ready to get down, their holster is as well.
  16. The regular emojis don’t work. But if you scroll down to legacy emojis, you’ll recognize the ones we’ve always had.
  17. I remember when they opened the store in Memphis there was a lot of butthurt in Nashville about it. I don’t get the fuss. Maybe I just like real furniture.
  18. While I understand the intention of this line of thinking, in practice I believe it has a terrible second order effects. It creates a stratification where the lives of ‘public servants’ (a term that seems to translate more and more as ‘public masters’) are worth more than the lives of others. When you start down that road of comparing the relative value of human lives, it leads to very, very bad places.
  19. Lillie Mae - Forever and Then Some She’s on Jack White’s Third Man Records and if you like actual country music, I imagine you’ll really dig her.
  20. As a general rule, a gun isn’t dangerous if it isn’t being touched.
