  1. Yep. If the New Madrid throws a big enough quake to cause the Mississippi to flow backwards again, especially into the local tributaries, it’s gonna be bad for Memphis. Real bad. Most folks don’t realize that Memphis is essentially an island. Between the Mississippi, the Wolf River and Nonconnah Creek, the three of them almost completely surround the Memphis metro area. Enough backflow from the Mississippi coupled with some bridge failures and Memphis is a ferry town again.
  2. Requiring a submitter to make a thing for submission and then charge them for making that thing is a bad faith action and not something I would worry about. Their ability to garner an indictment, let alone a conviction is highly unlikely in my estimation Here’s where this gets really bad for the end user. I’m thinking about buying a Springfield Saint Edge. Now let’s say Springfield has submitted that to the ATF and gotten back a guidance letter saying that in that specific configuration, it’s good to go. Sounds good, right? Now let’s say I want to add an angled fore grip to it. Now the configuration has changed and the letter no longer covers my gun. Change the grip to one I like better? Nope. Add a light? Nope. Optic? Nope. The letter only applies to the specific configuration submitted to the ATF. Any changes at all to the gun makes the clearance letter no longer applicable. The pistol market just took a huge hit.
  3. The ATF has issued new guidance that it will no longer rule on the legality of accessories as a stand alone item. They must now be attached to a gun and the entire gun sent in and then will rule on that specific and exact configuration. This most definitely is fallout from the ATF losing that case last month where the guy’s defense used several guidance letters to convince the jury that he hadn’t made an SBR. https://www.recoilweb.com/atf-declares-it-will-no-longer-offer-classifications-on-accessories-submitted-144230.html
  4. I was wondering about that myself. Does that mean that as long as you’re not out between sunset/sunrise it’s ok to use?
  5. Accurate.
  6. What’s that saying that used to be real popular around these parts? Oh yeah, I remember! Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
  7. I like my whiskey like I like my women, 18 years old and full of Coke. ***It’s a joke!***
  8. I don’t know if we can be friends.
  9. I’m currently in eastern Washington, not too far west of Spokane. There’s not a lick of the stuff out here.
  10. A lot of great voices have come and gone in our time here.
  11. It’s worth noting (again) that the best years for us gunowners were when we a Dem governor and a Republican supermajority in the House/Senate. The Republicans had to put in the work to prove themselves. The second the Republicans had the trifecta of both houses and the Governor’s mansion forward movement on gun rights all but came to a screeching halt.
  12. Just goes to show that not all of NY is NYC. Edit: I’m an idiot that doesn’t read everything completely.
  13. So I’ve become very interested in the new Springfield Saint Edge AR pistol that’s recently been brought to market. It checks all the boxes I am looking for in my next AR based gun and after looking into building one of my own, I can’t build one out of quality kit for less than the Saint Edge’s Street price. https://www.springfield-armory.com/saint-edge-pistol-features While technically a pistol, the reason I’m posting here is that I’d like input from owners or folks that have shot other offerings in the Saint lineup. How would y’all grade their levels of quality and reliability? Have you shot it suppressed, and what are your experiences there? Has anyone run one in a high round count class? I’ve handled them and they seem pretty good, but they are still an unknown quantity to me.
  14. I found it too. It’s now in a better suited location.
  15. That’s all excellent information @Cruel Hand Luke. I especially agree with the part that for the average person there is no legitimate cause to carry a baton. (Though I actually do keep one for use as a tire thumper in my Pete simply because it fits the door pocket just about perfectly.) I imagine that for most folks who don’t have some sort of (real or perceived) work reason to carry one, the class introduces a healthy dose of “why bother” into the mix. That alone I would imagine makes the class worthwhile. All that aside, I still think requiring a class to carry one is a problem because I think all prior restraint by the government on the population is a problem. If folks are going to carry impact weapons, they should get training on them just as anyone who carries a gun should get training because it’s the prudent thing to do. Doesn’t mean I think the government should have any input on the matter.
  16. You can, as long as you take the proper class for it. Silly that you need a class, but the avenue for it is there if you want it.
  17. She’s still on hold for the moment. @56FordGuy has his dance card full at the moment. Towards the end of this month I’ll have a total of $4k that is earmarked for the project and he’ll have the time to start on it. @GlockSpock, these pics should make you feel better about the rust on that 4Runner!
  18. This is why we can’t have nice things. Here’s some lovely ammo for the folks who’d like to repeal “guns in bars” as it was so wonderfully dubbed back in the run up to restaurant carry being passed. I’ll be honest, I don’t think it’s a big deal to have a drink or two while carrying. If you are unsafe with a gun after a drink or two, it’s probably not the gun that is the problem. But crap like this is what makes life hard on the rest of us. Whatever you do and however you do it, be responsible and safe while doing it. If you screw up, own it. Don’t run off like a coward. Whatever you do, stop making life hard on the rest of us!
  19. As always, the devil is in the details. Developing a process where there is true due process to determine if someone is a danger isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Ideally it would work in conjunction with adjustments to involuntary psychiatric hold laws to make it easier to get help for folks that need it while at the same time providing for a way for folks to have their rights reinstated after a period of time of improved mental health. Many psychiatric disturbances are temporary in nature and the laws should recognize that. An acquaintance of mine framed this in what I think is a near perfect manner. “If we viewed these mass shooting incidents as suicide in want of company, we might actually make some progress.” He was right. As gun owners we can’t say “this is a mental health issue, not a gun issue.” Then bury our heads in the sand and do nothing about addressing mental health issues. I don’t know that the bill being introduced by Dickerson is a good one or not, but I do think that as a state level action, there is the chance to actually make it a quality piece of workable law, and failing that tank it for cause and be vocal about why it wasn’t good legislation. This is a moment where movement will be made on these types of laws whether we like it or not. At the state level, we can make it a good law or we can eat a bad one. It’s up to us to choose. **I just encouraged civic engagement with lawmakers, do y’all know how bitter of a taste that leaves in my mouth? What’s the world coming to?**
  20. From David Codrea, one of the two main folks who broke the Fast & Furious story. The rest of the article is after the jump. ‘It’s unclear what the president hopes to accomplish by alienating his strongest supporters at a time he is being closed in on from all sides by powers intent on destroying him. If he believes this will satisfy the gun-grabbers and make them go away, that ignores everything about their incremental tactics. Experience shows they will take a piece here and a “compromise” there, and then use that position to launch their next demand for more. ...... If President Trump gets away with this usurpation of undelegated power, guess what the Democrats will be able to pull the next time they take the White House.’ https://www.ammoland.com/2018/11/pending-trump-bump-stock-ban-wont-satisfy-enemies-but-will-alienate-allies/
  21. It’s a bloody classic.
  22. It’s actually a pretty solid idea. They completely alienated that market. So why not just dump it entirely and focus on the sports moms and dads. It doesn’t matter to me one way or another because I don’t shop there, but I can definitely see the merit in that course of action.
  23. Full show is a half hour televised and including commercials.
