While I can’t disagree with anything you said, I just want to extra agree with your last paragraph.

AR15 charging handle issue
Chucktshoes replied to phiferran's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I have not had that issue, but I have always run BCMs in all my ARs except for my pistol which had a Raptor in the upper when I got it. Now I will be putting those on all future builds. It doesn’t really surprise me that the Anderson CH warped, I’ve heard their QC is spotty. I say just put in the high quality part and move on. Well, if you’re using other Anderson internals, maybe buy a quality spare parts kit to replace items as they fail. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -
There are myriad cases of malfeasance that highlight the issues with modern policing. I don’t understand why folks choose obviously good shoots of bad actors like this guy or Michael Brown as the hills to die on. It’s hugely counterproductive if you want real reform. It’s frustrating to no end.

There was a lot of rumor and misinformation being circulated last night. There were rumors being spread on the socials that he was shot after being handcuffed along with a lot of “he was a good boy in college and a father” as well. As if that’s relevant to what actually happened. Based on the available information including Weber’s own social media activity immediately prior to the incident, this was entirely his doing. I can’t see where the marshals erred. Also, while the MPD would have been justified in taking more aggressive measures against the rioters, I must commend them for making the sacrifice to place themselves at risk by using their discretion to use a softer hand and avoid exacerbating an already volatile situation. It had the high possibility of spreading and setting the whole city aflame and they managed to defuse it. They deserve the thanks of anyone who cares for Memphis.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - United States Marshals shot and killed a man in Memphis on Wednesday night, sparking a major protest. At least 25 officers were injured in the chaos. According to Memphis Police Director Mike Rallings, a crowd of people gathered after the shooting in protest, and some became unruly and began to throw rocks. Most of those officers have minor injuries, but Rallings did say a few were seriously hurt. At least six of them were taken to the hospital, according to Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland. Rallings said there are reports of civilians being hurt, and urged anyone who may have injuries to call for help. The shooting happened near 7 p.m. on Durham Street in Frayser. Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate. https://www.wmcactionnews5.com/2019/06/13/heavy-police-presence-frayser-neighborhood-after-reports-shooting/

This isn’t an exhortation to vote for Democrats, but one to stop believing and trusting Republican politicians when they say they support your 2A rights. They don’t. They just want your votes and have no qualms about lying to you to get them. -

Looks like the TN ammo tax has been repealed
Chucktshoes replied to Jason in TN's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
At the gun store I worked at, it was built into the price. It wasn’t collected as a separate line item. Basically the store just ate it as a cost of doing business so this tax change will really just leave the money in the store owner’s pocket. The customers won’t see any difference. -
I did. USGI mags.

I had the same thought, and also the same pleasant surprise at the reasonable price.

AR15.com has joined the 2nd Adventure Group family. The 2nd Adventure Group is wholly owned by Pete and Frank Brownell, and also serves as the umbrella company that owns Brownells, Inc. and other industry brands. https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2019/06/luis-valdes/breaking-brownells-acquires-ar15-com/ Interesting.

Ehh, I’m not so sure I would be. For example, I drive to Springfield, MO pretty regularly and there’s a spot where a few years back they did an expansion of US 60. On a hill overlooking that section there is a billboard that was put up by the landowner that says “Screw MDOT!”

May your projects never run afoul of a man pushed to the edge like Dawes.

I agree with you on that. It reminds me of one of my favorite of Stephen King’s Bachman books, ‘Roadwork’. I wonder if Heemeyer ever read it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roadwork
-
Differing perspectives are always valuable, but there are two main issues I’d take with that article. First it frames it as if Heemeyer was somehow obligated to sell his property to the concrete folks. (Nope!) Also, it omits the two main facts that go a long way towards justifying his actions to me. The access road and the sewage hookups and fines. Those two things take it from a “petty zoning issue” to an egregious trampling of the man’s property rights.

That process is in the works as we speak by folks at GOA and others. It’s a shame the NRA isn’t doing a damn thing to help *Tangent* While we agree on almost nothing, Dave, I have to say I really do enjoy our discussions. You help me to not be a lazy debator. -
Texas Adds Safe Gun Storage Campaign to Budget
Chucktshoes replied to Moped's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Innocuous enough on the surface, vague enough to be dangerous. I just wonder why the NRA and the state gun orgs aren’t on top of this offering support, guidance and expertise on how to conduct the campaign in the best possible manner to promote safety while respecting rights. This seems like a perfect way to dovetail the Eddie Eagle campaign with a component for adults regarding storage and the necessity of firearms education for their kids. -

I appreciate the rundown of information that heretofore was only being contested by you. At least you aren’t still trying to maintain that this rule change “had nothing to do with Trump.” I am well aware of the chain of events that led to the reclassification of bump stocks as machine guns. It still doesn’t answer the basic question of how does a bump stock fit the legal definition of a machine gun as quoted above. The language used by the ATF to say that it does in the new reg amounts to nothing more than “when the wording of the law says this, it means this other thing” all the while twisting the plain meaning of words to cover bump stocks while ignoring basic details of how they actually function. This has been my issue with this whole situation from the beginning. I don’t want or care about bump stocks in and of themselves. I actually think they are kind of dumb. But I take serious issue with the government changing its mind one day and by executive fiat turning citizens into felons with the stroke of a pen. When government officials have to power to say “I don’t care what the law says, it means what I want it to mean and it means you’re a criminal and I will cage you or kill if you don’t obey,” that’s the very definition of tyranny.
