I absolutely agree. I also pray that I (or any of y’all) never have to find out if I (or y’all) have the mettle to do what needs to be done when it needs to be done.

Anyone who seeks out or accepts an SRO position needs to know and understand that it is the one job in LE that nobody cares whether or not you survive if the worst happens. The survivability of an SRO is literally at the bottom of the list of concerns in a school attack. If the SRO dies, folks will mourn and laud their actions, but it will be considered an acceptable and worthy sacrifice. The primary job of the SRO in this day and age is to protect the kids by stopping an attacker. If the SRO has to die in furtherance of that end, so be it. It’s not the semi-retirement gig for Officer Friendly anymore. I think that needs to be made explicitly clear to folks before they accept the assignment. While my words are blunt, and my critical views on policing are not a secret, I hope y’all see that my words are not born of malice towards LE, but of belief in what the primary mission of the SRO position has become. To harden a target, you need hard men. Anyone who chooses to fill that role with the understanding of what the job really and willingness to do it, has my utmost respect.

Considering that I had to provide all this information less than a year ago to renew my CDL, you’d think they could’ve put that bloody gold star on it then. But noooooooo! At least my DMV is in Dyersburg and I’ll be in and out in minutes. Hate for y’all in the big metros.

They can’t access my phone without a passcode, as is common these days. I don’t have biometric unlocking turned on, so no fingerprints or face scans. When they pick up my phone, this is what they will see.

Any company I work for has the prerogative to request a cab facing camera, I can choose to comply or quit. I’m not too far from you in that if the cops don’t want to wear bodycams they absolutely should quit. As their employer (at least they claim to work fork for the people, I have doubts about that), I want them to wear them because no, I don’t trust them to be honest. If they don’t like it, I don’t care. Just like the companies that require cab cameras don’t really care if I like it or not. We both have choices to make and both have to live with the consequences. Out of curiosity, what do you think about the departments that have added officers to lists of non-trusted for warrants and affidavits because of their social media posts documented by the Plain View Project?

I have a crew of other drivers that I talk to. Driving a CMV while talking on the phone using a headset is legal and isn’t rocket surgery. We drive and chat all day. As far as cab facing cameras go, while increasingly common, they are by no means universal or even close to it. My take on them is if you can’t trust me to get your freight from point a to be safely without your eye in the sky watching me, you don’t need me to be hauling for you. My company tested them and determined that they were a greater liability than potential benefit. Anyone who wants to put a camera on me can pound sand.
