Good thread on Twitter breaking down the big takeaways. It’s isn’t the sky is falling moment that it could be, and is absolutely open to revisiting on other grounds. And for those that don’t use Twitter, here’s a copy.

Folks like to talk smack about Memphis and it being a leftist hive in the state. There is some amount of truth to that, however, Memphis is not Portland, Seattle, or NYC. They don’t go for that “burn down our own home” crap. Didn’t do it in 2020, ain’t gonna do it now.

And when they or anyone else does, I’ll laugh at them for calling it an “insurrection”. Was it wrong? Yeah. But it’s silly to claim that it was substantively worse than sustained nightly attacks on cities during the previous summer. There was a months long nightly siege of federal buildings like the federal courthouse in Portland where they repeatedly attempted to burn it down with people inside of it. They set fire to St. John’s Episcopal AKA “America’s Church” across the street from the white house. So no, I’ve never gotten too worked up about what was mostly an unguided tour where the only person who died was shot by Capitol Police.

Yes. It was a protest turned riot. But if we compare and contrast with any of the riots that roared throughout the entire 2020 Summer of Love, it was a very minor one in terms of injuries, deaths, and property damage.

Also, I've been saying for years that Elon has all the hall markers of being a Bond villain. I’m feeling pretty satisfied with that assessment.

Considering their tools of choice in these attacks, some of these folks are gonna learn that a Molotov cocktail is a Destructive Device under the NFA.

I avoid it at all costs. I turn it off whenever possible when it’s added to an app that I use. Have deleted a few altogether for doing so. It’s proliferation pushes me closer everyday to getting rid of my smartphone altogether.

I haven’t been in there for at least 5 years, but when I worked behind the counter, if there was any suspicion you were inebriated in any way, you would be asked to leave. That said, the weed sign has everything to do with its location on the outskirts of Memphis.

One of my favorite moments there will always be getting to deny John MacAfee and crew a sale based on suspicion of straw purchase.

While in some respects it was a Memphis institution, not all institutions are treasured. I don’t think I know anyone who will be sad to see it go.

Out of curiosity, the markings on the bottom of the receiver don’t happen to have an addition of Surprise, AZ do they?
