Anyone planning for trouble?
LangdoniousRex replied to DraxTheDad's topic in Survival and Preparedness
Not just the Chinese but all black hat hackers, foreign and domestic. OPSEC in the US civilian world is laughable at best. I'm amazed there aren't more cyberattacks that have blatantly obvious real world affects like utilities and the like. There is a running joke in IT that there is never enough budget for adequate cybersecurity to prevent an incident but there is always plenty of money for remediation after an incident. The problem with critical infrastructure is that too much of it is computerized and so many proprietary systems were made and designed 10-30+ years ago by companies that no longer exist and, in many cases, there aren't any modern replacement options available without upgrading everything at a site to the tune of many millions of dollars so they continue to keep these ancient systems cobbled together and running because "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". You'd be amazed how many Windows 2000 workstations are running large, critical pieces of industrial equipment that are one wrong look away from ####ting the bed. Or, god forbid, the new IT guy decides that workstation needs to get on the network because reasons. It's game over in minutes. The people that in charge of all of this won't change until something catastrophic happens and by then it's all too late. You're better off making your homestead as self-sufficient as possible because we all know what happens when the, "I'm from the Government and I'm here to help" comes around. -

I'm surprised no one brought up 2011s like Staccato, Springfield Prodigy, Tisas B9R DS, Stealth Arms Platypus, Girsan Witness2311, etc, etc.

It looks like 9mm and 556 is not worth the money to load
LangdoniousRex replied to 2agood's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Seems 9mm and .223 keeps creeping down in price while 5.56 keeps creeping up slowly (go figure, NATO round). 9mm is in the very low 20s CPR and .223 is in the low 40s CPR while 5.56 is generally over 50 CPR. I think the popular calibers are pretty much at the bottom so these prices will linger for some time then inevitably start going up. When this starts happening is anyone's guess but I would imagine summertime we'll start seeing some ammo market volatility. -

Dang, I won't be out that way for another month. If it's still around, I'd take the whole lot.

That more applies to the modular cans. Instead of buying 10 dedicated cans, you can buy 2 and a pile of accessories to get the same outcome and since the accessories aren't NFA items, it makes things a bit easier and less time consuming. Once you have them, cans are super low maintenance. -

From a budget perspective, that logic applies. If budget isn't a concern, throwing in a rimfire can along with another, since they are relatively cheap, also makes sense. My first can purchase, I bought 5, including a rimfire can. Buying them in batches, if you have the means, is the way. -
Do you think Mike Rowe is right about US consumers?
LangdoniousRex replied to BigK's topic in General Chat
When the economy was genuinely better, more people probably would've spent a little extra for US made because they could afford to. Nowadays people's budgets are tighter than ever so they are ultimately price driven and country of origin isn't even a thought. -
Welcome! Former Nevadan as well. Left for the same reasons.

7.62x39 silver bear/wolf/barnaul
LangdoniousRex replied to CaneyRiverDog's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
This seems to be the best deal I've found on new ammo: Telaammo $459 + $35 shipping, no tax, for 1k rounds -
These ammo price increases seem to happen once older stock finally sells out and the store has to re-order, then we see the higher prices. Lots of ammo still isn't moving or there is an obscene backstock at the distributor which takes time to burn through. Practically all of the sub $2/round 45-70 is gone as well as the sub $1/round 30-30 but all the popular calibers aren't moving all that quickly. The higher prices will trickle in when you aren't paying attention, like they always do.

I am the king of questionable decisions Southwest Iowa wasn't rural enough which, through the power of the internet (Zillow), led me here. 52 acres surrounded by farmland fit the bill nicely. Shooting off the back porch is one of the many simple pleasures.

I love mine as well as the Hybrid 46. Between the two cans, they fit just about anything centerfire as long as you pony up another $1k or so for accessories. -
Yeah I put 2 mags through it and had nothing but issues. Instead of figuring out the root cause, I bought the TX22 Comp and have had zero issues with it so the P322 just sits in storage.
