  1. We will have 7 stages for the match, including a classifier (El Presidente) for a total of 127 rounds (plus all the misses you want at no extra charge).  Lots of fast close shots and long challenging shots with 40 pieces of steel and only 2 no-shoots in the whole match.

Registration will start around 8:00 as soon as we're done prepping the stages, with first shots 9:00ish.

  2. The North Tennessee Practical Shooters will host our October match next weekend, 11 & 12 October, in Dickson.  Setup for the match is SUNDAY, 5 October to accommodate another match.  I will be at the range for setup between 7:30 & 8:00.  Help is greatly appreciated, and those who help are free to practice after all stages are complete.

Stage details will be posted when complete.

    DVC,

    Aaron

  3. I've never shot any competitive events before. Would this be something newbie friendly?

My first competitive match of any kind was a USPSA match at NTPS.  It's a very welcoming group.  Be warned - this is highly adictive.

Is this the easiest first match for a newbie?  Probably not - but if you are safe and have the gear then come on out and give it a try.

  4. NTPS will host our July match in Dickson on the 12th and 13th, with setup this Saturday the 5th.  As always, help with setup is greatly appreciated, and those who help are welcome to stay and practice after setup is complete.

Stages and round count will be posted after setup.

    Happy 4th,

    Aaron

  5.

You have to wonder why anyone would try so hard to cheat at something that in its essence, is a pure measurement of one's individual skills.

I think the answer is obvious:  It's because some people are @$$holes.

I don't think they should be banned.  I think they should be required to attend every Area match and the Nationals wearing a T-shirt that says "Cheater" on the front and "Because I'm an @$$hole" on the back.

  6. Do you have to be a member to shoot?

Like Michael said, if you're safe, you're welcome to shoot with us.  No membership in our club or the USPSA is required for our club matches.  Your classifier score can't be sent in to the USPSA without a USPSA membership number, but other than that you're good to go.

I'll be running registration on Saturday, and I'll probably be around Sunday.  Introduce yourself and I'll make sure you get the safety briefing and are squared away.

    Thanks,

    Aaron

  7. The North Tennessee Pracitcal Shooters will host our June match on the 14th & 15th.  Stage diagrams will be posted when they are available.  Setup will be this saturday morning starting around 7:30.  As always, those who help with setup may stay and practice afterwards.

More info at www.ntps.org.  The schedule on our web site is incorrect - the June match is the 14th and 15th.

    Cheers,

    Aaron

  8. I made C and close to B. It really amazes me that I can classify higher in USPSA than the guys who beat in overall. I'll be the 1st IDPA Expert/Master to get beat regularly by Marksmen!

USPSA and IDPA classifiers are a distillation of some of the skills necessary to compete successfully.  Classifiers tend to focus on draws, reloads, and transitions between targets, while standing still.  Those skills can't hurt you at a match, but what wins a match is stage breakdown, speed, efficiency of motion, and physical fitness, most of which are not factors in most USPSA classifiers.  It is a bit like calculating a golf handicap based only on a driving distance.

In USPSA, match scores at major matches where 3 or more GM's shoot in your division can count as classifier scores.  Those are the only classifier scores that truly reflect match performance across the entire skill range.

The above are opinions, your mileage may vary.

  9. Stage descriptions are posted, but no diagrams this month.  They will have to be a surprise.

We have 134 rounds total with 5 stages plus a classifier (13-06).  We have movers, lots of steel, lots of movement, lots of decisions - something for the whole family.

With any luck, we'll even thaw out before the weekend.

    DVC,

    Aaron
