Nashville Friends of NRA Banquet: Dinner and Guns!
ngoeser59 replied to a topic in Events and Gatherings
Who all is going to the June 13th Friends of the NRA? I will be going and would love to meet the wonderful people here on TGO face to face -
CHECK THIS OUT......THIS COUNCIL MEMBER ROCKS! I have met him 2 or 3 times and he supports us. Here is his reply to me. Hello Nikki, Thanks for sending this. I hope your efforts will be rewarded. I find the actions being taken by my colleagues shameful. I have received to date five (5) emails asking that I support this end-run around the new law. I have pasted the basic message i have responded with for your review. I had a friend at church suggest that I support this effort by the council. When I informed him of the facts regarding the proposed bill with the council and those of the bill passed by the state, he agreed that I should not support the council bill. On another note, having discussed what to were with some friends. Business casual was what was suggested. A cocktail dress may be too formal. I have set aside two tickets for you and will have them at the event, though I plan to make it to the meeting on June 11 at APPS. Keep up the fight, Duane Dear ???, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Your fear should not be placed in those that have been trained, vetted, registered and fingerprinted by officials in order to gain a concealed carry permit, but in those that currently do and will continue to violate the law by carrying an often unregistered and illegally obtained weapon. If the criminal is the only one with a weapon, they are much happier, and neither you nor any other law abiding citizen has increased safety. I must respectfully disagree with your thought that this is NOT a second amendment issue. I've included the text of the amendment as ratified by the states for review. "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." "Bear arms" as stated on Miriam-Webster.com is simply "to carry or possess arms." This proposal you've asked me to support would infringe on those rights. I would further suggest for your consideration, the premise that any government which can ignore and circumvent one amendment and therefore your rights, might just as easily do so with any other. I think that Thomas Jefferson may have understood the issue we face and the intent within the second amendment when he stated, "Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." Kind regards, Duane Dominy District 28 Councilman

I asked Emily how she will vote and if she is waiting on the lawyers to tell her how to vote....here is her reply. Ms Goeser: I support responsible gun ownership. I don't know how I will vote as 1. I have not read the bill. 2. There is some discussion among lawyers that Mr. Tygard's bill may violate state law. Lawyers don't tell me how to vote but they do tell me if a bill violates state and federal law. I consider their advice to be one of several factors when deciding how to vote. Hope that clears things up. Emily

I just got this response..... Ms Goeser: Thanks for your note. It remains very unclear what authority Metro Council has on this issue. The lawyers are studying it and I will see what they say. I am terribly sorry for your loss. Regards, Emily Evans, Emily (Council Member)" <Emily.Evans@nashville.gov

I just sent this email to every single Nashville Metro Councilmember out there. I hope you will all do the same. I have provided their contact info at the bottom of this thread. Dear Council Member (Member Name) My name is Nikki Goeser. My husband “Ben†was murdered right in front of me on April 2, 2009 at Jonny’s Sports Bar on Nolensville Road here in the Nashville area. I am a gun permit holder here in the State of Tennessee. I had my training, permit course, intermediate course, I had been in a shooting competition where I came in 3rd place out of about 18 people. I have since gotten my advanced certification. Because of Tennessee State Law right now, I had to leave my loaded gun out in my car the night my husband was gunned down. I understand you are all looking to keep guns out of establishments that serve alcohol. I hope you will listen to my story and reconsider your position on all of this. First, I have to be very careful what I say about the case as the man that did this deserves a fair trial. My husband can never breathe again, can never hold me again, can never hug his children or hold his grandchildren again but the man that did this gets a fair trial. He will get a fair trial. I can tell you that the man that did this to us was stalking me. That part is already out there and the police actually told the media so I can say that. I want you for one moment to think if this happened to you or someone you love. I can tell you that bad guys do not care about Laws. Every restaurant in Tennessee can put up a “No Guns Allowed†sign but you what? It will stop nothing horrible from happening. If anything, it will be a welcome invitation for people with evil intentions to come in and murder innocent people because they know there will be nobody there that can defend themselves from a gun. Bad guys will always get guns. By forcing good law abiding citizens who have been properly trained and have a right to carry permit from having that weapon on them when they sit down to eat a meal with their family…..you are creating a situation where innocent, good people are “helpless†and at the mercy of people with horrible intentions. That mad gunman could come in and kill 25 of the 50 people in that restaurant. However, if there is a good citizen in there that is properly permitted, that 25 person head count could be minimized to 0, 1, 2 maybe 3 people. The law abiding good citizen could save countless lives. I encourage you to research online the Luby’s Cafeteria Massacre (Suzanna Hupp). Please look it up under a search engine. You will learn much from this woman’s story. I have spoken with Suzanna and she was instrumental in getting gun laws changed in her state of Texas. In Texas you can now carry in establishments that serve alcohol and she says it works. There are no incidences where a permit holder has ever done anything horrible or acted irresponsibly. Permit holders will follow the law, they will not drink while carrying. It’s the bad guys you need to fear, not the good guys. When seconds count, the police are minutes away. The police got to Jonny’s Sports Bar just in enough time to find my husband’s dead body and me beside him in shock with Ben’s blood on my clothes and hands from holding him. This is reality. This happens and I am trying so hard to make people realize that this world we live in now is not some candy coated wonderland. There are evil people out there that wish to ruin it for the rest of us. I pray that nothing happens to you or your loved ones like what happened to mine. Some people will only wake up once it does. I hope you listen to what I have to say and learn from my nightmare that I am forced to deal with everyday. Please listen to me I beg you. I have attached some very important links below and I hope you will all watch every one of them. Please reconsider what you are doing. I think we are planning some sort of official meetup at a gun friendly restaurant July 14th. Either I or David will let you guys/gals know where the location will be and time(probably lunch). I just have to say....and this is my own personal opinion ONLY. I am a little afraid to open carry for the simple fact that #1 I am a little lady and I would not want someone seeing my weapon on my side and overpowering me and taking it from me. I choose to conceal carry for this reason. All it takes is one split second and a bad guy could end up with your gun. Unless you have your hand on it the entire time and a pretty strong grip.....well, I just would not advertise it. To me it is about my own personal safety and the safety of others and I would not want to jeopardize that. But that is just how I personally feel. You guys have the right to do what you feel comfortable with....just be careful.

Well......can you imagine what I have been through with my husband being murdered infront of me? You could say that I have some sort of post traumatic stress disorder for sure. I am paranoid right now for sure. I am always wondering if the guy sitting on the park bench I am getting ready to walk past is a bad guy waiting to hurt me. I would hate to think that my gun could be taken from me. Especially after all I have been through. I can tell you even though I am stressed and I am paranoid and I am not what you would call "the way I used to be"....I would NEVER hurt anyone with my gun unless I felt that my life or someone else's life was in serious serious danger. This is part of the reason why I will not go see a shrink. I don't want to be diagnosed with anything because I have to be able to protect myself. I don't ever want that stripped from me.

After meeting some of the Senators today.....I am seriously thinking about running for a seat in the House. It's a long stretch but I figure I may be able to make a difference. My degree is in Psychology and I am not sure what all steps I would need to take but.....after speaking with Senator Doug Jackson today about it, he seems to think I could do it. But right now I have to go feed my 4 dogs and do some things around the house (like laundry) that have gotten away from me. My house looks like a tornado went off in it Thank you guys/gals so so much. We did it!

My email to Governor Phil Bredesen
ngoeser59 replied to ngoeser59's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Nice. The guy just gives a CANNED response to everyone. You would think he could mix it up a little and have at least 4-5 different canned responses huh...... -
One Chamber down....One to go! Let's override this Restaurant Carry veto! It's going to be a GREAT DAY IN TENNESSEE tomorrow! Watch the NRA NEWS tomorrow night to hear me give Governor Bredesen a huge piece of humble pie. I wonder if he prefers Apple or Cherry? The people have spoken through their Representatives and one underhanded Democrat cannot stop "the people" from protecting themselves. Governor Bredesen said after his veto "I hope they will think about it again, and I pray if this happens (an override) there will not be some sort of tragedy in our state." Are you freak'in kidding me Governor? There already has been a tragedy in your state under your current Law. My husband's death! You ignore it, you don't call me back, you don't return my emails, you won't see me. Phil Bredesen is not a concerned or caring person unless it fits his own sorry agenda. To not even acknowledge what happened to my husband Ben Goeser in Jonny's Sports Bar is just....well....cruel. I will make it my mission to support the NRA, support Victims Rights, support anyone who is against this man ever being in Office again. I can't wait to tell the public about this man's indifference.

PRO Gun vs. ANTI Gun Business list
ngoeser59 replied to whiskey's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I think the pro-gun establishments should post a (pro-gun) sign on their front door that says...... "If you are a bad guy that means to do harm to the people in this establishment. Know that most everyone in here carries a weapon and you WILL BE KILLED." -
This was sent this morning...... Governor Bredesen, I am sure you know by now I am dissapointed in your decision to veto the Restaurant Carry Bill (What you and your supporters call The Guns in Bars Bill). I am sorry if people have been too harsh with you and if you have received nasty emails from people that are extreme right wing. That is not me. I am pretty reasonable and I stay in the middle of the road mostly and try to listen to both sides. I will say this.....I don't understand why you don't trust Tennesseans in restaurants that serve alcohol. There are 36 other states that already have this same type law in place right now and it works. There are little to NO incidences in these states. Suzanna Hupp (of Luby's Cafeteria Massacre) told me on the phone the other day that her state of Texas has a law in place that allows permitted citizens to carry in Restaurants that serve alcohol and it is just fine there. Why do you want to scare people? Why do you want to ignore the statistics? I believe I could have saved my husband on April 2nd at Jonny's Sports Bar. Perhaps the man would have never gone through with it if he knew I had my gun on me. It could have been a deterent if anything. Especially if there were 10 other people in the Restaurant carrying as well. There may have not even been a shot that needed to be fired. I will never know, because you have an incredibly harmful law in place right now that makes innocent people "helpless" and at the mercy of people with evil intentions. I can tell you, if lawmakers were not protected from civil suits......I would have the largest home in Nashville that would put Alan Jackson's home to shame. All of you have a duty to pass laws that protect & help people. What did you do to help & protect my husband? Can you answer that for me? So you have now vetoed the bill......how will you protect innocent people from being shot like my husband was if you won't let us protect ourselves? What is your plan? Do you have one? It's all about politics isn't it. It's all about you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. You pass this bill or reject this bill and I will support you next time. This is ridiculous. I can also tell you that Chris Cox with the NRA called me and he is not happy with you at all. You lied to the NRA just so they would support you. I hope you will grow a conscience and really think about what you have done. I hope to meet you sometime soon. If you will even see me. I promise I will be a lady (my father raised me that way). But you & I do not see eye to eye on this issue and we never will. Please think about what you did. Sincerely,

The day after legal restaurant carry
ngoeser59 replied to Mousegun's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The thing these Restaurant owners/managers need to think about before posting a "no carry" sign after this bill becomes law is.....If they deny a patron to carry to defend themself in a state where it is legal but they deny you that right in their establishment....If a bad guy comes in and kills someone, that owner can be held responsible in a civil suit and most likely the patron or patron's family WILL WIN. This falls under Restaurant Liability to protect patrons from Assualts. They can be sued for ALOT of money and it will put them out of business and their Insurance Company will have to pay pay pay. So, if they insist on posting, they had better have a few armed guards there to protect people or they will end up losing their pants. In order to recover your damages from the restaurant owner, you must be able to prove that: 1. The owner had a duty to exercise reasonable care to protect his/her patron from harm; 2. The owner failed to exercise reasonable care to protect his/her patron; and 3. The owner's failure to exercise reasonable care caused the resulting injuries/death. -
Governor Phil Bredesen Vetoes HB0962 (Restaurant Carry Bill)
ngoeser59 replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I can't believe Bredesen chose this route. I can't believe after all the calls, after all the support, after all those votes in the house & senate in favor of good citizens who have been properly trained to carry for self defense.....HE VETOES IT. The people spoke through their representatives and he does not care. I sent him at least three emails and called twice. I asked one of his staff to put my letter directly in his hand. It really is ALL ABOUT POLITICS. He cares more about Democrats votes than innocent lives apparently. This is ridiculous. I guess the news will finally run what they taped of me last week starting tonight and through the weekend to counter what Bredesen just did. I hope to God there are enough votes in the senate to turn over his veto. I am so dissapointed. So so dissapointed. Gov. Bredesen Vetoes Gun Bill - Nashville News Story - WSMV Nashville Nikki Goeser -
I spoke with Channel 4 & 5 news this morning (Nashville Tn) regarding my support of the Restaurant Carry Bill. I am not exactly sure when it will air. I have been told it could be on as early as 4:00pm today or as late as 10:00pm tonight and possibly again tomorrow. I spoke directly in the camera to Governor Phil Bredesen urging him to "sign" the bill. This is a very important bill and it looks as though it will become law regardless but the Governor's signature is very important. I want him to sign. Please keep calling his office and emailing letting him know you all support the bill and want him to "sign". Thank you all for your support. This new law WILL SAVE INNOCENT LIVES. I just wish it had not come so late for Ben & I.
