Welcome to the board, and no cussin' yankees!

Has anyone decided on the July shoot location? Nothing yet on that thread. Gonna stop in again Thursday and see Mike at Top Notch again, I enjoyed talking to him.

I have to shoot bass with a scoped rifle as I do not have a boat and therefore cannot get close enough to where the bass are to catch them in the normal fashion.

molonlabeTN is a voice of reason I have gone to a gun shop here in the Knox area on a Saturday only to find their hours plainly posted. Of course they were closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Did I get mad? You bet, mad at myself for not paying any attention to their posted hours the other 25 times I had been there during the week. I do not understand why a retail place would be closed on a Saturday but it is for the shop owner to decide and I am fine with that. I have no problem with places being closed on a Sunday. Some of you old farts (like me) may remember when businesses being closed on Sunday was the norm. Times were simpler then and IMHO the world was a better place for it.

I don't know what it is but I want one!

I would never expect a gun shop to work for free. There is nothing wrong with a nominal fee for you being able to make them work. $25 sounds fair and seems to be the norm from what I have seen. Would you expect a lawyer to give you free advice?

This is the most hateful thread I have ever seen on here. Some of you all would be better served by thinking twice and posting once. And for what little my opinion is worth if a person is getting their message across why would anyone comment on spelling or punctuation? Thats kind of weak. To the OP, I see nothing wrong with a little venting, and blowing off some steam probably made you feel better. Nothing wrong with venting at your friends either.

Mugster welcome to the nuthouse! I won't hold it against you that you are from TN if you don't hold it against me that I am a ex yankee and now a naturalized Tennesseean towerclimber I was talking to a buddy of yours last week. Mike in kingsport? at Top Notch. He said to tell you hi and you need to get him to the next shoot. I told him I would let him know where it is at and that he was welcome to come with me if he wanted.

Now I could do that kind of hunting It never entered my mind that there were not trees somewhere, and I never knew it was even legal to hunt from a car. Everywhere I have ever lived having loaded long guns in your vehicle can buy you lots of trouble. Dan you picked out a handgun yet??
-
I have lived in three other locations before personally choosing east TN to put down final roots. The others were Chicago area, Cincinnati, and Boca Raton Fla. Every place I have lived I have heard that " wait 15 minutes" expression, and every place thought they had the market cornered on it, LOL. I am pretty sure I had relatives fighting in the War for Southern Independence just not sure which side they were on. I have done checking and my maternal grandmother's name of McGuire was fairly common on both sides of the fence with people who joined up from where they lived in northern KY. I have always held out hope that they fought on the right side! Are there really more cows in Nebraska than people in TN? Terry J if you do not freeze your butt off in a tree to shoot deer where do you freeze it off at? Dan you need handguns fer sure.

I did not realize there were so many damn yankees on this board. Glad I am not alone. Ohio originally, well after the womb that is. Oh you all know what a damn yankee is, right? I might have been from Ohio but half of my people were country folk farmers from KY. anyway I am a redneck at heart

Hi Dan, why don't you tell us about yourself. What do you like to shoot? Where you from up north? What brings you here? All that would be good for starters. What I really want to know is did you take the last train? Welcome aboard dude!

Told the wife today I had plans on July 21 and to not be making plans for me that day. Does not matter to me where it is held, I am looking forward to shooting and meeting you all. Going to bring two handguns and one long gun.

Welcome to TGO what do you like to shoot? And why in the world would you or anyone for that matter be hanging around GlockTalk?? lol, j/k

Slushee question for June-July: Velocity v. Weight
Mike.357 replied to dcloudy777's topic in Handguns
I don't know that I understand the physics of cartridges but I believe I prefer I larger slower travelling load. I worry about over penetration. Less than 1000 fps is what I looked for. Of course I am just speaking of self defense rounds that I assume would be deployed in close quarters. -
I am making note of the 21st and doing everything in my power to not let that date get fubbed up. I got to shoot with Boom this past Saturday and from what he told me shooting with yall is something too much fun to pass up. I am really looking forward to it. That setup for shooting in OR looked like a sweet place. But I like the tri cities too and am willing to travel!

I have seen it before, archie is a little over the top and all but deep down he was a great american. The older I get the more I seem to have in common with him.

that is a fine array of carry weapons, I think you ought to get everyone on this thread a .32 so we do not feel left out !

Welcome to TGO. What do you shoot?

Was something bad about to happen or am I just paranoid??
Mike.357 replied to Donnie's topic in General Chat
I am glad you are safe and it ended up really being a non-incident. One thing that concerns me is if the man would have kept coming. How close would you have allowed him to get before you pulled your weapon, and also if you had shot how would you have proved imminent fear for your life. This whole having a gun for protection is a dangerous double edged sword. By this I mean he could have just been an idiot, on drugs and or drunk and not meaning any harm. Or of course he may have intended great harm. Did you see any sign of a weapon, or was he a physically massive person? Did he act in a threatening manner? You mentioned that there are gas stations every couple of miles. I might have been inclined to continue on to one of these lighted areas while dialing 911. Just another option rather than pulling over on a dark part of the road. You did good though as nothing happened. It easy for me or anyone else to offer advice while in the relative safety of our computer desks. I hope if I am ever in a similar situation I can think clearly or act bravely with restraint like you did. I have no doubt there may be some people who would have shot. You are to be congratulated. -
I am going to shoot this afternoon. My spot is in the woods in front of my house. it could change but right now I am planning on shooting the SP101 and the SAS .22. I picked up a box of CCI Mini Mags to shoot and I also got a box of WWB .38 Special. I always try to keep ammo on hand in case I do not have time to get to WalMart, but I was going by there yesterday and spent my walking money for the week, lol. Hmm more bullets or some spending cash...... It was an easy choice! I have been wanting to pull the Mosin Nagant M44 out so maybe that might get some use too.

Samauri it is commedable that you worry about your neighbors being bothered by an hour or two of noise. I see no reason for you to worry. I do not know how often you shoot or plan two but it is not to much for you to expect to be able to legally use your property. In a prior post I stated I do not care what the neighbors think, but It should be noted I am reasonable and at most find myself shooting only a few times a week and generally the noise does not last more than an hour or so. It will be your land and you should do what you are legally able to do. Anti's will love it that you worry more about their feelings than your own.

When I called the local gestapo here in Knox County I was told that I could shoot ( i live outside city limits btw) on my property as long as I was not aiming at a dwelling or person. Keep in mind you are legally responsible for where your bullet ends up at. I would be pretty darn sure of a backstop. In my case I shoot into a hillside that is tree covered, there is no dwelling on that hill and I am reasonably sure I will have no bullets end up somewhere I do not want them to be. As an added precaution I have a frame to hang targets from that insures that my bullets end up in the hill. I would have to aim more than ten feet over the top of my target frame for the bullet to not hit the hill. I have also been building a dirt pile as an additional backstop. The dirt pile completely fills the line of sight behind the targets. When shooting rifles, the line of sight to the target is downhill into the hillside and dirtpile as well. remember you are responsible for where that bullet ends up at. I shoot any time I want to within reason. I limit it to between 12 pm and 6pm or so. There is no noise statute here at that time of day. I do not go out and shoot a thousand rounds in one afternoon, but I have shot several hundred, some of them from the M44 and SKS. Personally I do not care if the people who can hear my noise are bothered by it. If they came by and asked nicely I would work with them but I would not stop totally. I have a right to use my property legally for what ever I choose. The one thing I have liked about the area I live though is that people seem to mind their own business. I might add that my nearest neighbor is over 100 yards away from where I shoot, but as long as I am safe I would not care if they were 50 feet.

NRA vs. GOA -Here we go again... (LONG!!)
Mike.357 replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
This is a tough nut to crack. While I believe the NRA would not endorse a bad gun control bill, ( those are three nasty words) I am very leery of giving the libs an inch because no doubt they will come back and ask for even more if they are given this concession. It may well open us up to other restrictions. The libs know their only hope is to inch things forward. I had already contacted our Senators and voiced my non agreement to this bill before it even left the house. Corker's office sent an email stating he was pro gun and would give my opinion every consideration. Alexander's office sent snail mail thanking me for contacting him over some bill about retirement money????????, I am hoping that was just a clerical error when the envelope was stuffed. Alexander sits in the pro gun corner though. Not sure if what I do has any bearing either, but at least I took a stand and spoke up.
