  1. I agree some looking into this neded to be done. But 600K in bail is a little weird too. There are people accused of committing actual violent crimes who do not get his deal. Rabbi I am not quoting your entire post but I agree 100% been there did that
  2. It would be near impossible to get you gun otu and use it before this guy can pull a trigger. OCing or CCing would not matter. Neither gun might see any air. The key is to be aware. I do not know the layoput of the donut shop but usually they have a lot of windows. Bad guy was probably behind the counter and harder to see. But I will bet a dollar to a donut that the cop was not paying attention.
  3. Shooting low does not bother me, better than shooting high. In a defensive shooting you are still putting a hurt on a bad guy.
  4. Welcome to TGO. Don't be afraid to post on some threads. Watch the threads for our upcoming Meet and Shoots on the third Saturday of each month. Mars might have some advice for you about them Glocks
  5. To me .40S&W seems to have a pretty snappy recoil, i do not know if that will help any with a follow up shot or practice for it.
  6. better somewhere else than where I am at
  7. I found out today that Gander Mtn. no longer price matches on ammunition or firearms. ;) I was there anyway and thought since they price match I could get walmarts price on some .45 ACP Blazer I would go ahead and get a box. Clerk said they do not do it anymore.
  8. The kid seems a little off but me determining he is a little off does not make his activities illegal, just to me a little out of the norm. I do question where he got money for the arms and munitions he was buying. Thats a lot of cash for an 18 year old to have. Maybe he was the beneficiary of insurance realted to his mothers death. Personally I hope he was doing nothing wrong and sues the pants off of some people. The story says he was previously arrested for a concealed weapons charge. I for one am proof to the fact you can be charged and not be guilty. If he had been found guilty his purchase of a firearm would be denied. So from this I assume he was not found guilty of those charges and really they have no bearing. Also is his school a real school, like one most of us attended or is it something else?
  9. I thought it was all of them, I must have confused that with something else the SEC controls. UT is definitely dry except on gameday. I think it is a joke. Funny how there are liquor distributors delivering to Neyland the days before a home game. It seems that sky boxes are considered private property and the dry thing does not count in those. Since they banned smoking inside the gates I wonder if skyboxes are exempt from that too. And of course I have done my fair shair of keeping things wet on gameday too.
  10. Mark, I am going to try to pick up a generator today, hopefully if I can get out to Gander Mtn before going to work. The lantern is a Coleman, double mantel. I have had it for a long time. It must be 25 years old I guess. I even have a case for it. Can't wait til this weekend. Went to Gander and picked up the generator, I will still bring the whole thing for you to give it a looking over.
  11. For me I do not mind paying the cover fee to get into gun shows. I enjoy checking out all the gunny stuff in there and it is a great way to spend a few hours. I don't look at the $10 as a waste or money I could spend on things bought from a store or gun shop. I get $10 worth of enjoyment being there. And it is the only place where I know I am with that many like minded people. Now maybe someone could answer questions for me. At the entrance, at least at the Expo Center there is a table for checking you gun(s). What exactley are those cops checking for? Does this checking include my carry weapon? or is it just for those bringing in guns to sell or trade? Are they going to make me carry it unloaded? Do I carry it unloaded or just give it to them with one in the pipe?
  12. I disagree here. There is plenty of danger. Any gun left unattended is a gun waiting to go off. Guns should be safely secured at all times. It does not matter if you have ammo in the house. What is to say that the neighbor keeps his ammo locked up? All it takes is your kids buddy to show it with a few slugs. Think about it. Also I am not so sure about threating to beat a kid. Not saying I am against a spanking, but I am against using it as a threat. Air soft is a good idea Boom, I am going to look into that instead of the .22. I am pretty sure there are re-active targets for those too. Cody, I think it is our duty here to call your high school and warn them about you
  13. I'd call him out on it. Probably would tell him if he can produce his TN conceal carry permit I would place an order, if not then no order. Obviously he is bs'ing trying to be impressing.
  14. Great topic Boom. As for age I think it depends on the individual child. Some kids are ready for supervised shooting at 5 while others are not ready at 10. My kids are grown so I will use Cameron (5 yr old grandson) as a reference. He is close to ready, but I think after 15 minutes of shooting he is ready to move on to something else. We have shot the BB guns together and 15 minutes is about the max for his attention. And 15 minutes to a 5 year old is a long time so IMHO he did good. I am leaning towards buying him a single shot for Christmas. It definitely will be a rifle. The Cricket is sized about perfect for him and one cartridge at a time makes it about as safe as possible. I guess he would be ready to do something else after about twenty shots. The peep sight on the Cricket I think will help him learn proper aim too. As for safe environment, you have seen where I shoot. We have a relatively safe backstop. I would probably sit in a chair and have him right in front of me, basically between my knees almost. I already harp on him about trigger discipline even when he is playing with toy guns. He is starting to grasp that concept. I would also make sure he never has more than one cartridge in his possession at a time. I am curious as to how good his dexterity would be with loading one .22LR into that Cricket. I would also keep him no more than 25 feet from the target, that way he should shoot well enough to hit what I want him aiming at. As for attention span, he is pretty good at being obvious when he is bored with doing something. Like most kids he has the attention span of a gnat. I would not force him to continue on after he has expressed a desire to stop. And from experience I know 15 minutes is enough. If he wanted to keep shooting for an hour I would let him, but would limit him to one pack of 50 cartridges at a time. I doubt he will get through that many. As for tricks and tips all you can really do it teach them proper safety methods along with proper grip and stance. I do believe re-actionary targets will help too. Punching paper bores me pretty fast too. I like the idea of water filled pop cans or spinner targets so they can see something happen when they hit it. Canyn, I never forced interest with Cameron. He has been very interested as long as I can remember. One thing to do for sure if they ask about your guns is to stop what you are doing and spend however much time is needed right then (not during dinner though, lol) to let them handle and ask question about the guns. The only thing I would force with guns in the house is safety and then some more safety. I have spent a lot of time making sure he knows the difference between toys, BB guns and real guns. Push real hard on the bit about getting an adult right away if they find a gun or ammunition. And no matter what they want to do in a situation they are never to touch a gun without permission. You do your part at home by making sure guns and ammo are locked up and out of reach to the kids. The big deal with ammo is that while your guns may not be accessible some other kids parents might be, and those kids might not think twice about taking bullets from your home to try out in their old mans gun. Who else can pitch in with some ideas?
  15. Mark, I am coming for sure, well God willing anyway. I will be happy to help you with anything you need doing. I still need to pick up a generator for the Coleman lantern. I thought Walmart sold them but not here. Going to try Gander Mtn next. 11:00, 11:30 Saturday ok? I even think the Karin is coming along.
  16. You did good Boom. In the past I have made my grandson sit with me while I clean guns. He quickly becomes bored with it. But by doing this I am pretty darn sure he knows the difference between real and toy guns. On occassion something piques his interest and he will ask about them. I immediatley ask if he wants to handle the guns or see them. Both times he just shook his head "no" and went on with playing. Another important thing to do it explain what to do if he ever comes across ammunition or a gun while on his own. I have talked many times with him, just for a few brief seconds, that he needs to leave where the gun or ammo is and go tell an adult. And he is to never ever touch a gun or ammo on his own. That dude with the chopper needs some new parenting skills.

Gander Mountain in Farrugut carries them, not sure but as I recall it was 389 NIB.
  18. I agree whole heartedly with this statement. Nothing good can come out of a large party in a residential area. My only exception would be a party at a large secluded piece of private property. The OP's post also makes me wonder about how the law here in Ktown is used and the knowledge of the local cops. I assume that BT and his pals were celebrating UT's OT win Saturday night. I also guess that the OP was somewhere in the Fort. But really the location is not important as the Fort is not part of campus. UT as well as all SEC schools have a "dry campus". But have you ever been there on gameday? The campus rule of dryness is a joke on those days. The law says one thing but another thing openly goes on. Walk around campus in tailgate areas and there is no end to alcohol being consumed. Most of the time people are discrete but not nearly always. Cops walk around and there is NO enforcement of this. Abotu the closest thing to enforcement is them telling an undiscrete drinker to use a cup. I have no problem with this situation other than I wonder how many designated drivers there are. No doubt there are many impaired drivers leaving that place after the game. I for one would like to see UT enforce the dry campus rule. But we all know that is never going to happen. It is all about money, the bottom line is always about money. I do not know what point I am making here but I would like to know about selected enforcement of laws. And also about cops who do not know laws they attempt to enforce but make them up on the spot.

Might just need some more breaking in. Any idea how many rounds have been through it? My RIA could not feed a magazine load without some kind of failure. Since the round count has increased so has reliablilty. You also might want to keep the mag loaded for a while to help break in the spring in it. Doing that seemed to help on mine as well.
  20. I bet this fast tracks your HCP and you will receive it very shortly after nashville gets the paperwork.
  21. I shipped a carbine back to Hi-Point for repair via UPS. I labeled the package as machined parts per Hi-Points instruction. UPS did not even question what was in the box. I know this does not help you in ship a working firearm. Wouldn't a good safe way to ship be to seperate the bolt on a rifle or slide on a auto loading pistol into seperate packages. Neither package would be a firearm. Just an idea.
  22. so from that statement I would surmise that Mrs. Canyn does not read this site, or we might have to hide you out so she does not put holes in you I am surprised that the S & B does not run through that gun. Guess you just need to take something to clean the chamber and bore out after you set it down a spell. And look at it this way, it is good drill for clearing a jam and firing the weapon, especially since it happens at random.
  23. Dotsun I have never heard of Shooters Arms but I just googled it and found their website. I don't know what I can tell from the pics only but they look like 1911's. I would have found it hard to pass up a NIB RIA but for $20 less you might have gotten a great deal on that SA. Let us know how it runs when you take it out and shoot it. Did you buy some ammo for it? If not Wallworld has Blazer Brass for a little less than $12 for 50 rounds. Picked up a box of it tonight just cause I was there.
  24. So did you get you request sent off about the paperwork over your probation? What did you end up sending TDOS?
  25. what Tungsten said, +100
