East Tn TGO Members NOVEMBER 2007 Meet
Mike.357 replied to Marswolf's topic in Events and Gatherings
If we are caravaning up to Kingsport I would like to meet by 9:30. It takes ninety minutes. Earlier would be fine with me too. -
Feeble attempt at humor on my part I guess

I was talking to a guy (another customer) at a gunshop about .357 revolvers once. He said buy a S&W if you plan to resell it later, a Taurus if money is tight or a Ruger if you plan to keep it forever.

It's all good Boom and Pokey, just razzin you a little I agree with Boom that you can find things cheaper over the internet. Every time I have bought from the internet the net result was saving some money. Got to include gas in there too. I also do not mind in some case spending more, the botom line is, does it make me happy? If so then I don't mind. I guess that is why I do not mind the bitter pill sometimes of paying to go to a gun show. I enjoy the fact that I can see a lot of gun stuff without having to drive all over the place. Boom I am with you on the gun shop thing. Maybe there is one out there somewhere but none of the local ones really excite me much. There are a few in Tri-Cities and Greenville i like though. And as for ammo it is hard to beat WalMart. If I had gone to this show I would have been looking for bullets most likely. But I don't doubt I would have found something else I did not know I wanted.

What if 20 million illegal aliens went back home to Mexico

I am going to stick my two cents in here. For what its worth... Rabbi can post on any subject he chooses, not that I am giving permission, not my place, nor is permission needed. This is a public forum and Ghostrider you can't come on here and make up your BS rules as to who is allowed or not allowed to quote you or comment on your posts. I may be wrong but I believe you are the only member here who is a name caller. You could use to learn a lesson in civility and human compassion as well. frankly several things you espouse turn my stomach. cite your source for this, frankly I do not believe it. So I read this as to say you want illegal immigrants to receive a death penalty? This is especially unsavory, real compassionate you are. What proper channels did you go through? Were you born here? If so then you are only a member of the lucky sperm club then. It all about you Kind of like slavery huh? Someone have their panties in a wad? I am kind of sick over the poison you write but I would not tell you you are not allowed to write it, or comment on someone elses views. if you do not want comments on your views then keep them to yourself or at least do not post them on a public message board. -

My nephew, the evil pistol owner might be coming too. He is dying to come get his gun back and I am trying to get him to do it this coming weekend. But he works two jobs and has to sort things out. Anyway even if he doesn't come the evil pistol will be cmoing otu for the shoot, lol. -

Let's get a Roll Call going and find out who is committing? We need to make plans where to meet if anyone needs to caravan. I am in, who else? -
OK , now I am pissed. Why were you and Boom at a gunshow and I was not invited? Don't look for great deals on guns Pokey. Most of the gun sellers are gun shops around here and the prices reflect that. Sometimes I feel I can find a good deal on ammo, but mostly I find something I did not know I was looking for and the price is good, so I buy something and I leave happy.

My first hand gun was an Armi San Marco reproduction of the 1851 Navy in .44 caliber. I bought this mail order from Gander Mtn back in 1982 or 1983. I am not sure exactley how many balls I have run through it over the years. Not so many I am sure, maybe 400, probably closer to 300. The thing about BP revolvers is that , well mine anyway, seemed to crud up at about 25 to 30 shots. Heck thinking about it, I bet I shot it 25 seperate times between purchase and the disabled list. So there is probably about 600 rounds out of the barrel. I really love that gun. I think BP is pure shooting. I loved having to be methodical to load and shoot it. Purism in shooting at its finest. The last time I shot it was about two years ago. I had run about 25 rounds through it and disassembled it, cleaned and oiled it, and re-assembled. It will not action anymore. No way to pull the hammer back. Locked like a virgins legs on the eve of her wedding. There is no visible binding of the cylinder. I do not nearly believe the gun is shot out. There has to be a problem with the timing. The part that moves the cylinder forward while cocking the hammer does not fit correctly IMHO. It is a bastard part from a part replacement years ago. But I don't think it fits any worse than it did when first put it in the pistol. Armi San Marco is long out of business, parts are near impossible to find. The thing is, I guess I paid $65 or so for it when bought NIB. But the sentimental value is enormous. I have spent at least $50 bucks on parts to try to fix it in the last two years, the parts all suck and do not fit any better. I guess what I want to know is do any of you have a good advice. Is it worth trying to fix and possible expense of a gunsmith, or am I just better off by going and replacing it?

Nope Canyn, I can buy Blazer Brass at WallWorld for about 24 cents a round just in a box of 50. Of course that is before tax but ammunition to go is going to want shipping I am guessing. Nice try anyway. Best way is to reload. I have been pricing and if I made 1000 I can do it for about 15 cents a round or less I think. That is provided I use brass I already have.

Scratches and stuff are exactley why i prefer utilitarian firearms. They still go bang, are fun to shoot and character as Eddie says, never hurts them.

What's in your firearms Christmas list for Santa?

What I really want is Ivory (faux Ivory would be fine too) grips for my Ruger single six, and some 230 grain ball ammo. -
I am going to vote for the Cheap Side. I have several bags around the house that came from lord knows where and any of them work fine as a range bag. The one I am currently using came free from the NRA when I joined up a few months ago. It easily holds four gun rugs and or cased pistols. The big thing I think is using something else for hauling ammo. I like a surplus metal ammo box. Ammo is the bulk of the weight I have to deal with when going shooting. I am don't want to cram everything into one bag and feel like I am lugging a set of free weights around with me. No big deal to carry the bag and also carry the ammo box. Altogether the current setup might have cost me $15.

The only two things I can find bad about the P3AT is that everyone I have seen, (three of them) has issues cycling through an entire magazine. Did not seem to matter how firm a grip the shooter had. Also I don't believe the slide locks back after the last round.

Dixie, you are not applying yourself properly, you should always be looking for new guns. Don't have to buy but need to be looking.
-
Why wait so long? If you had done it promptly there is a good chance it would have come already. Canyn said I feel you. I had kind of gotten over it while my situation was resolving itself, but it felt good when TDOS sent me a letter saying my permit was valid. Hope you get it soon man.

CCing when posting is not as TN says it should be.

I don't know about the rest of you but if I see any sign saying something to the effect of NO GUN ALLOWED I am not going to go in if I have a gun on me. Pretty good chance there is. There are other options for lunch or furniture or whatever. And to me it is not worth having to prove to the man whether or not their sign was legal and sufficient. -
+ 1 This is very important.

Cody, don't forget that the diploma is most likely KEY in you going on with your prospective military career. This ACT thing may never matter anyway so don't stress over it. Soon you will learn another needed skill, the reloading bit -

The saga ends and the irony of it all

Actually it is a Sigma, lol. I can be thankful that I was cleared, the situation is over and that I was given a friends and family discount by my attorney. I am not a wealthy person by any definition but I also wonder what would have come of me if I had not been able to scrape up 1500 bucks to pay my lawyer to handle this. Potentially this offense carried jail time up to 11 months and 29 days along with a hefty fine and of course loss of being able to have a carry permit and the right to own firearms. No doubt it is the most expensive pistol I will never own. But I figured I did pay rent on it so I am going to shoot it up this weekend.
