  1. Mars, since you have training can you tell us ways to find out if we as individuals would be able to do better that the non-shooting guard did? I have never been in a situation where I have had the need to deploy and use my handgun. I have had a shotgun stuck in my face during a robbery though, this was before I had a permit and carried. Is there any way I can get an edge on this type of situation should I ever find myself in one similar? I bet there are more here who have never had to shoot than are here and have had to shoot. At least I know for fact I will not crap myself if a gun is pointed at me.
  2. Nice to see someone taking control. I especially liked the low light training. I wish my class had done that. I suppose I could try that here at home in the woods some night but I don't think the people in earshot would appreciate it.
  3. While it is fine to have pride in your state I think in a general way people are about the same no matter where they reside. Certainly there are as many unprepared and sheepish type people in TN as in Nebraska. The writer of the original story (fiction) is certainly out of touch and clueless.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
  4. Boom, not to worry about the shooting thing. However that works out will be fine. Take care of the Mrs. first. As for golfballs I have a crapload of them I have no use for and I can take a bunch of them to save you a trip over here. Lemme know what you want to do.
  5. This brings me to that mall shooting where I mentioned just taking a shot at the bad guy. The bad guys are gutless pieces of crap who will not stand up to anyone. And this guy at the church once confronted by another armed shooter was gutless and may have taken his own life. Either that or the law and opr media is lying and the lady blew him away. Either way good riddance to some trash.

Rabbi, you are Jewish? Who would have thunk it? Happy Hannukah!
  9. LOL, that dang 84 Lumber sign is sitting there like a big ole sore thumb! I don't know how I never noticed it before. I saw it bigger than life today from way up on Amherst. I need to have Stevie Wonder as a navigator, he would have seen it.
  10. I think it would be similar to a baseball bat if you possess it. I have always figured if you carry a bat or hammer for that matter and have a legitimate use for it you are okay if you ended up using it for defense. So if you are going to carry a bat you ought to have a baseball or two and a glove with you and if you are carrying a hammer you better have nails and be able to express why you needed to carry it.
  11. Maybe you pro movers know some tricks. When I finally moved my 450 lb RSC upstairs it took four of us, a good dolly and a lot of grunting and groaning. When I made the purchase I got it out of my truck bed and into the basement by myself. That was not hard at all really. But going up the 12 steps was a back breaker.
  12. MolonLabeTN, How many days from date of order to receiving the parts?
  13. Suntzu, I work up off of Amherst and just can't picture where 84 lumber is. I will pay closer attention on my home later today. Thanks for checking on the passes too!
  14. since original pic was removed, so was my comment
  15. The 10 cents a round is based on making 1000 rounds. Pound of powder; $17, 1000 magnum small pistol primers (from Gander with a $10 coupon) $20, Nosler 150gr jacketed bullets from Wideners are $16 for 250 rounds. I use brass I had saved from previous cartridge purchases. All that added up comes out to about 10 cents a round. Even without a coupon for primers and possible shipping charges to buy components online they still would come out to no more that 15 cents a round. Buying Blazer Aluminum cased rounds work out to be about 32 cents a round. So reloading is a no brainer really. You can buy the Lee Loader from Wideners or several other places online. To use the loader you need a mallet and a caliper. it is pretty simple really.

    Your perfect 1911?

    sounds like my SP101 .357mag
  17. wmd's are legal if concealed too.
  18. Todd I appreciate all the input. I have also read about bending of the extractor. I tried a suggested way of doing this. It involved partially removing it and using the extractor hole on the slide for leverage to bend it slightly. I have also tried this last night but have not shot it since doing so. I am not sure I bent it even it more than a hair. I was more afraid of snapping the thing or causing some other damage.
  19. That is my reasoning for the heavier spring. The new spring is what was always recommended when I read about someone having similar problems. I have also read that the extractor may be the problem. But the fix for that involves filing on the extractor and I am leery of doing that.
  20. Sometimes J Floyd on Merchant Rd has Blazer in .357. They are aluminum cased and are about $16 for 50. If you are just punching paper why not use .38 specials? J Floyd usually has .38 special wadcutters for 11.99 for 50. If you are dead set on .357mags call around to some WalMarts, or order online. I have been rolling my own for the last month or so. I can make them for about 10 cents a round just using a Lee Loader. Paid ten bucks for that thing. It is slow but pretty accurate.
  21. Where is that at on Middlebrook?
  22. I might make it to that show. I am not a big fan of being in that part of town, but I still might go. Arrive early and leave early. Admission is kind of a trade off to shipping. I will probably be looking for some bullets for reloading. I always manage to find some trinket at them too.
  23. Type of ammo does not really seem to make a difference. WWB, Blazer Brass, Wolf, S&B, Magtech and my own reloads are all ones I have used. The failure rate is about the same with all of them. The mags I use are the 8 rd. Novak that came with it and a 8 rd. Wilson Combat that was recommended to me by a local gunshop. Probably coincidence but the Novak seems to run better. I have worked the edges of the mags a bit and that helped some. The gun has over 1500 rounds through it so I am not thinking it is break in period anymore. I just ordered a spring from Wolff, it is about 13 bucks delivered so if it does not help I am not out that much. I started using a heavier gun oil on it and that has helped some too. I run the thing fairly wet.
  24. Yeah, Wolff was what I was looking for, just was spelling it wrong when I tried googling it. The reason for trying a new spring is the occassional failure to feed problem I have. Seems to happen about once in 100 rounds. Now shooting this at a range it is no big deal, even helps a little using the malfunction as a clearing drill. With reading I have done at a 1911 forum there seems to be a consensus to replace the factory spring with one that is 18 lbs. The other option seems to be polishing the feed ramp and barrel throat. But to my untrained eye these look fairly well polished already. I am open to other suggestions if someone here has knowledge about it.
