That is a broad assumption, I will go ahead and assume that since only 3% of TN residents are HCP holders that no one in there would have been carrying anyway. Dave, I saw the comittee votes and Woodson was on that comittee and voted to pass it out to the senate floor. She will get my vote next time she runs more than likely. Has everyone called their senator yet?

James, make sure you test fire some before you make a lot of them. Just to be sure there are troubles.

10-4 Mars Try to remember some of us are dimwits here

I voted for the 1911, come to the light my son.

Polls are fine and all but a better thing to do would be to contact your Senator at their office. I just got off the phone with Jamie Woodson's office and I urged her to vote for passage and said my vote for her in the future is dependent on her vote for passage of this bill. If you live in the 6th district you can call Senator Woodson at 800-449-8366 x11648 If you do not know your district or know who your Senator is you can look it up here. http://www.legislature.state.tn.us/senate/members/smembers.htm#Find I urge all of you to call and express your feelings. And just in case polls matter or help I just put the two polls on a thread in High Road

Scott that is not the response we were all hoping to read, lol Hoping you can make it out too. Maybe I will bring my Glenfield Marlin model 60 and we can have a model 60 shootout!
-
What criminal purposes could it be used for? I am probably too trusting.

Mars go into further detail on this please. I am asssuming it was striker fired?? striker fired is inherently dangerous? Or is this humor that sailed over my head?

Everything you all mentioned I thought about and I do not see it happening really. If someone reported my firearm stolen, well I have a reciept for everyone of them and even if I didn't I have knowledge of what shop I purchased from. Now buying FTF it might be different, but if I intended to do that unless I knew the seller I would want to have the sheriff run the number before I took possession. I agree that there is no database with serial numbers, and that is why I wondered about all of this. Of course with potentially banned weapons I am certain that no one here would own such a weapon. Even then do we think the gov't has the resources to do all that legwork to track them things down?
-
What Brian said. It is a lesson to everyone here that you ought to keep it to yourself unless you know 100% for sure that your employer supports your right to possess a firearm. The person in the cube next to you or the guy on the line next to you who you think is your friend could very well cause you to get fired by having the knowledge that you have a gun on your person or in your car. Remember TN is a right to work state and that means you can be fired for any or no reason at all.
-
I have always wondered about this. For the most part, more than 99% of the time, when someone posts a firearm pic and the serial number is visible the number is blured or blotted out. Even in magazines where someone writes about a gun they have they always present it with xxxx at the end in place of digits. Why is this? What could a deviant person do with your serial number?

We have been having a little problem with chipmunks in the house here lately. I say chipmunks (plural) because I now know it was more than one. I got one Saturday in the garage, shot him about five times with the bb gun. He took me by suprise and it was my best chance to get him out of the house. Well not 30 minutes ago I heard the little vermin running in the space between the upstairs floor and downstairs ceiling. I am sitting down here at the 'puter and I see the dang thing run across the ledge that is just below the rafters ( unfinished part of basement) and into a storage closet. I was better prepared this time than a bb gun. I had the Savage .22 bolt rifle loaded with CCI shotshells. I bided my time and sure enough he made a return trip. Bold little devil he was he did not continue back the way he came but ran across the bar that supports the blinds on the basement sliding doors. Well that is the last time he will do that. I pretty much got up to him point blank and gave it to him in the face with a load of shotshell. He went right to the floor, good night Alvin! The only collateral damage is a little blast mark about two inches aross on that rod supporting the blinds. It was a fine example of marksmenship if I say so myself. Have not heard the scurry of little feet any more. Man I hope it was only two of them. I bought a small varmint trap and have it baited in the garage. I also have some glue traps in strategic places along with the normal load of five mouse traps that are in waiting daily for the woods mice that stumble in from time to time. But I think the firearm was the first line of defense and I am loaded up and waiting for another one! Stupid chipmunk pretty much displayed himself in the one place I couuld safely take a shot with minimal damage. Woohoo for me!

Woohoo Scott!! You are right on it being at OR, and it's your lucky day, as an added bonus whoever makes the 63rd post in East Tn Members Shoot threads gets to buy ammo for everyone. I prefer some 9mm and 7.62X39

would have been better of with a Hi-Point

I can see 1440 passing along, but the other has no hope of getting out of committee -
I went to my grandsons school a month or so ago, I planned ahead and already had the gun in the console of the truck, therefore I would not need to handle it. Say a LEO for whatever reason asked to see my registration/ID/proof of insurance, whatever and saw the gun in my console I would have been in good shape as I was not handling the gun. Of course this is based on me having a HCP, without the HCP you are in trouble. If for example I was going there to pick him up and I would not need to get out of the car I could keep the gun on my person. I figure going on shcool property the best thing is to keep the gun in the console or glovebox in case there is need to exit the vehicle.
-
You are legally allowed to have a handgun in your car while on a school property as long as you make no attempt to handle the gun. Unless it is a cop asking me for ID I am not telling them anything.

my son is 27 and has never expressed any interest in guns or shooting. He and his wife came home for Christmas and he asked if I would take him outside to shoot. He also epxressed an interest in buying a handgun for home defense. Unfortunately the day we had to go shoot did not work out, it rained hard all day. The next day they had to leave to go back to AZ. I did advise him to seek out a certified instructor and take the basic NRA Pistol class. I also gave him some sources here on the internet that would be of help to him. So don't give up hope Frank, he may come around on the gun thing someday.

I do not believe that the 1911 and the .45 ACP it uses is as big a problem as a .40S&W. Isn't the .45 a lower powered round generally? I only mentioned it in response to a post where someone wanted some factual input. Personally I have not seen anything about a glock that makes me want one. And no one has presented any sound reasoning to make me want one over what I already own.

On another thread we discussed the upcoming switch to an all digital format. I found a link that may be of interest. http://www.dtvtransition.org/ From what I read unless you have a really old TV you will not be affected.

Unsupported chamber and volatility of the .40S&W round.
