I feel ya on other hobbies taking up the cash. Cars and RC's don't come cheap. I can only afford one hobby at a time and right now it is guns. I used to do golf but that bored me some terrible after years and years of it working in the business. I did diving in florida when we lived there but I developed a huge phobia of drowning and sold off all my dive gear. So now it is guns. I did buy a pretty nice bolt action Savage .22 this past spring. It was under 200 NIB. I don't know if I shoot as good as the gun can or if I just suck, but when I take the time to set up the shot, and don't shoot so rapidly that the barrel heats up it if a pretty accurate rifle.

RCB, did'ja ever get that .22?

If I won the loottery I would want to go buy some high dollar commerative gun just so I could go and shoot it. If I win millions I would definitely have squanderable amount set aside. No point in having a gun that is just a wall hanger unless of course it is still pretty and you have shot it out.

Won't there be trouble with a pellet scop on a rimfire rifle? Even with the slight recoil I thought that air gun scopes just won't hold zero on cartridge rifles. At any rate Cody i am looking forward to seeing you shoot it.

My only real beef with gun rags is that everything they have in them is all high dollar top of the line equipment. Nothing for the poor man or the man who just can't justify a $1000 1911. Scopes, rifles hanguns, whatever it is always seems to be out of my price range. I would like to see comparisons of 1911's that are under $500, or polymer frames under $350. How about a story on Heritage SA .22's, or a Marlin Model 60? Never going to see it.

NuT, great list. LOL I have an 1851 in .44, brass framed. I have nhad it for 25 years I guess. Unfortunately it is fubared right now, but the guy looking at it for me seems optimistic that he can fix it. Parts are near impossible to find, in spite of several websites claiming they have parts for it. I call them and no parts. Hopefully I will have the new one and the old one to shoot very soon.

James if you want to increase the recipe we worked out you really ought to take Mars' advice and get a scale and reloading manual. The info I had you working with insured that your rounds were going to be safe. I am not comfortable being involved with you increasing powder in rounds on my say so. The scale I have does not go lower than .3cc You really need to be more observant about primers sticking out of the casing, that is a big safety issue. I don't know about bulging cases as none of my .357 brass is bulged that I am aware of, and some of those cases have been used up to 5 times now. No elongation problem with them either. Mars said Mars he is using a Lee Loader, not a press. I use one for .357mag and .45ACP. I have never had a .357mag pistol primer pop while reloading but the Wolf Lg. Pistol primers I use for .45 regulary pop on the rate of about 1 for 50. I know I need to get a tool for setting primers other than the Lee Loader method. That is all I reload for and all I am comfortable with. I do not push the envelope as it were. Lower powered rounds to be safe is all I want to do.

I have wondered about that myself Eddie. None of the places where I have found cartridge conversion cylinders available state anything about their product needing to go through a FFL, and there was no 4473 for me to order this over the telephone. All I needed was a valid source of payment and I was good to go. I suppose a deviant sort could order the BP revolver and the conversion cylinder at the same time and in short order have a cartridge firing revolver. So then with the above being fact does it make it illegal for a convicted felon to purchase and own a BP gun? I wonder how well a BP revolver would fire using the gangsta stance.
-
Even if what you posted was 100% correct are stores and restaurants the only places you go? Trouble lurks around every corner yanno!

Well I caved in on a new BP revolver. I ordered a blued steel frame 1858 Remington with a 5.5 inch barrel in .44 caliber. It is backordered and I might be lucky and have it in two weeks. there is a very outside chance that it will arrive in time to break it in at the shoot on the 19th but my hopes are not high. Can't wait for it to come. Anticipation is almost better than holding it in my hands. Nothing like the smell of BP. Now i need to save my change up for a while and order the conversion cylinder for it to be able to shoot .45 long colt. The conversion cylinder costs near as much as the BP revolver did.

I for one am fully aware that this has somehwere between little and no chance of ever becoming a law. There is a possibility at any rate that it could pass in the senate, if I understand correctly. I can easily see King Jimmy squashing it in the house. At best this will get a little notoriety amongst the public. Someday Naifeh will die or maybe even retire and when that happens the public might be accepting of a law of this type and it could be brought out again and then pass. Some things start with baby steps.

I do not believe you need a trimming tool for reloading for a revolver. Stretching of brass occurs in a auto loader where the brass is forced in and out when the gun is fired. I do measure a few pieces of brass before reloading just to make sure they are still in spec. I don't know abotu bulging in casings. I have never noticed this before, but I assume if they still chamber then you are good to go. Someone will chime in most likely with a better answer.

We can sight them in up in OR, I have one rimfire scope that I swap back and forth between two rifles as I see fit. Usually I get bored with it one one then move it to another. as it is now I stuck it on my 60 but have yet to shoot it or site it in. It is one of the things I was hoping to accomplish this month.

3-0 now. Got one today. The wife was home and using he PC in the basement. She heard a noise and investigated. There was a chipmunk stuck to one of the glue traps I had placed in spots where I believed they were travelling. So do you think she she could take care of it? No, I had to drive an hour round trip to dispatch the varmint to meet his maker. Anyway that is one more out of the way. I hope they are done but I have my doubts.

When you drive the casing into the "socket" you are resizing.

I see you blurred the serial number darnit, I was going to call the sheriff and report it stolen !

So did you order or purchase a percolator yet?

WalMart seems to have the best selection, must be 7 or 8 different mags. The Weigels (you have Weigels?)near our house has a couple too. The best way is to find one or two you like and subscribe, it is way way cheaper than paying full retail.
-
resize and prime all you are going to do in one stretch. Then clean out the sizer. The little powder that sticks is insignificant. Don't go adding any more powder and changing what we determined is a safe recipe. basically you are making plinking rounds not atomic bombs, keep it that way!

Rabbi i think you and Mars are evil opposites of each other.
