  1. Great post threeshot. I don't particularly care to shoot indoors and have only done it one time, reading through the above links only re-enforces why I don't care for them.
  2. nothing that interests many people on this forum. It is a real gun, black powder revolver, no tupperware to be found oon one of them, heh!
  3. see post # 103
  4. My next gotta have is coming Monday! Woohoo
  5. Gotcha about the manual, Now the manual that came with the Lee Loader says " Place primer into the locating ring and use several light taps on the priming rod to forve the shell out of the die onto the primer. You'll be able to tell when the primer is home by the sound. NEVER SEAT A PRIMER DEEPER AFTER POWDERIS ADDED." And that is what I do.
  6. No UPS stores there? Around here that is what most people do, I was in and out in about 15 minutes, most of that time was waiting my turn to be helped by a clerk.
  7. I was told on the last gun I bought which BTW was the one I was initially denied on that collecting the money up front was the legal and proper way to do a transfer. And that shop too had a policy for a higher fee for a denial. I was not charged that fee as I told them what was going on and what might happen before I purchased. Of course I was approved a week later.
  8. Definitely agree with frank on the number 4 thing. No need really to clean a gun that sits unfired for the most part in a nightstand. Now if you shoot regularly you ought to be able to maintain your stuff. Everyone is entitled to self defense. Mall ninjas do not bother me either, as long as they follow the basic rules. If you are into tacticool stuff that does not mean you shouldn't own guns. and i agree with Frank on number 7. Basically by owning a gun or guns you are pro RKBA even if you do not actively work towards it. The list is good food for thought
  9. Couple things I do not understand. Why do gunshops charge more for a failed background? does it cost more to process a failure? I failed one once but it was overturned on appeal. Frank not to tell you your business but how can you legally keep some guys money like that? I am curious how that works. Did he know beforehand about that part of your deal?
  10. I wonder if one would really get in trouble on a flight if that page was opened on a laptop. Dave you are a hoot!
  11. I used to love stopping at Top Notch when I was up that way. You could just pull up a stool and shoot the sh.. errr breeze and have a coke, or find a good deal on something. Gunslingers has a great milsurp room as I have mentioned before.
  12. dunno what RTFM means. I typically set the primer with 5 to 6 taps of the mallet, there is a fairly distinct sound when it sets in place. Of course the primer popping is fairly distinct as well, lol. I am using CCI primers on the mags, never set one off. Wolf primers on the .45's. 50-60 blows is a little unreasonable I think. I do not strike the priming rod very hard at all. I believe the Wolf primers are just a little softer, probably will not get them anymore. Mars that is the piece I have been looking at and will probably get before loading anymore .45's I have learned that S&B brass is the hardest to set a primer in and Winchester the easiest.
  13. I used to work with a guy from Dickson who told us some stores about a notorious family of inbreds out near where he grew up. Sounded pretty bad. Lots of physical deformity.
  14. Mugster you are comparing apples to oranges here. The Lee Loader I use is similar to this http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0003091210526a.shtml Loading of the primer is done by placing a primer on the priming chamber and driving a casing out of the body (silver socket looking thing) onto the primer. To do this you use a supplied rod and a mallet. not at all the same thing as you are speaking of. Did you read the entire thread or have you been cherry picking? this loading method has been around for a very long time. I do not think I am eventually going to hurt myself by popping an occassional primer. They are a bit loud and startling when it happens but it ain't that big of a deal, really. read my fourth last sentence in post #96
  15. not the brightest bulb in the fixture for sure. How dumb does someone have to be to think that a legitimate firearms dealer is not going to follow the law in regards to sales of guns. I dunno, maybe he was in the neighborhood hoping to find a FTF sale and saw you store.
  16. so tell me
  17. No way I am shooting at passing traffic unless I am drunk first! Can't wait!
  18. waiting on this thread to die, lol
  19. don't know what the assistant and her hubby belonging to the NRA has to do with the senator, reads like she was being pleasant. Better than being told to buzz off which was more or less what I was told one time when I called Nafieh's office about a gun bill.
  20. Just goes to show that you shold not trust that your ejector works 100%, actually looking and/or sticking your finger in the chamber is a better indicator. That takedown method shared by Glock and the S&W Sigma is the only thing I do not like about the Sigma. Goes against Cooper's rules.
  21. You want badger's, giraffe's, little penguin's, zebra's? Man the list could go on for about forever. anyway Rabbi, I thought Manichewitz would be more your style. That kid is just as bad as you past story about people missing your closing time and then not having the money the next business day. If you want the gun and you are legal appealing is the answer. I will go on a limb and say he was not legal. Either that or your shop has a rep, yikes!
  22. Update. Cabelas emailed and said my order was being backordered further, up to three more weeks. Now I have seen this type of stuff before where the retailer has no control over when shipments come in and they are estimating the arrival date. Now they pushed it back again. I called and cancelled. I figured I could call around to a couple different suppliers and maybe have some luck. Well sho' nuff. EMF has what I want in stock. On Monday afternoon I should/will recieve a NIB 1858 Remington 5.5" barrel steel frame, blued .44 caliber BP revolver. I am excited now. I will definitely have it for the shoot this weekend. Assuming it is not a lemon I will have ammo, powder and caps to give it a proper breaking in!
  23. at the risk of being off topic i will say diving was great. I saw and did many things the average non open water diver can imagine. Swam next to 6 and 8 foot long barracudas in 100 feet of water at a wreck near Palm Beach. Watched a Bull shark swim right underneath me on a safety stop one time. Once while going after lobster during mini season the guy I was with had stuck his arm up to the the shoulder in a hole on a reef going after a lobster we both had seen, after a minute or so of grappling he gave up on it and was coming towards me when all the sudden a huge Moray eel came out of the hole. When there were people spear fishing off the same dive boat you could about count on seeing a shark, but the upside was that they never failed to share what they caught and nothing tastes better than fresher than fresh seafood. Sharks and such never bothered me but drowning sure got into my head after about 50 dives and I could not get past it.
  24. Are we going to tri cites to shoot at traffic from Mar's tree house?
  25. FWIW Hi-Points have an external safety
