  1. As far as I know there is no law against owning handcuffs, and someone really needs to show me the law against possessing them in plain sight before i will believe someone was cited for having them hanging off their mirror.
  2. I seriously doubt that a charge of impersonating and officer would stick if you were simply wearing the thing. Going and acting like a cop with it wold be another story. That said though I could see someone getting stuck in jail until bond is posted and a judge dismissing it at a hearing. But just the same I do not care to spend a night in the pokey. The things are laughable.
  3. Nice rifle there BK!! As for ammo, I am assuming 7.62X39. Sportmans Guide has Wolf Mil-Spec for 49.97 for 240 rds, 99.97 for 500 rds, and 194.97 for 1000 rds. That is as cheap as I have seen it lately. For comparison Cheaper than Dirt had 1000 rds for $214. These quotes are all from catalogues received yesterday. And today I was in Gander Mtn and they have Wolf Mil-Spec for over $12 per 20!!!! OUCH, who in the heck would pay that price? Hope you get to break her in soon dude.
  4. Just got off the phone with my rep, Harry Brooks office. Of course he was not in but the lady took my number and assured me he would return my call. I asked her to express to Rep Brooks my support for passage of HB0702 and that i would very much appreciate his returning my call so I could discuss it further with him. Here is a Knox area link to see what district you are in if around here http://www.legislature.state.tn.us/house/members/MemMaps/Hknox.htm If you are in Brooks district, #19, his phone number is (615) 741-6879 I see from reading his profile that he is a member of the NRA, I just hope he is a believer of 2A and RKBA, if not maybe I can convert him when he calls.
  5. Sorry to read that the shoot is not happening, I was looking forward to some foul weather shooting. I hope your business works out for the best Mike. I had even manufactered a base to use as a third hand to assist in loading the 1858 Remmington. Oh well, there is a shooting range about a minutes walk out my front door. it won't be as much fun without you guys though. And I would offer to substitute but my pistol range can only really handle 3 shooters at the most anyway.
  6. Sun, good idea to bring targets. There are stands to staple them onto there already. I am sure Mike would not mind someone bringing clays too. I had chinese for lunch today and my fortune said "You will enjoy doing something different this coming weekend" So I am looking more forward to this than I was already, unless it means I will be shooting in pooring down rain, lol. Have not done that yet, but I am guessing it would be fun anyway.
  7. James, what happened with the S&W?
  8. I will be shooting some Winchesters Saturday, just not driving there. Now if they had Hi-Points I might have come.
  9. I imagine I will be there. Unless it is too cold and I wuss out Rain or wet will only effect what loudenboomers I bring out. I was at the AFC title game in '80 or '81, it will never get that cold here, so I am guessing I can deal with it. And Scott I think your team took a whooping in that game
  10. Carrying in a poll is one thing actually getting to vote is another. Freakin morons here in Knox County can't keep a computer system working, Why do we need computerized voting anyway? So I go to vote. Polling place is moved. Find new polling place and computers are down. Old geezer types ( no offense meant Mars) running the show are absolutley clueless abotu what to do. Then they decide you fill out this piece of paper and they will verify info later when the computers work. Well no that is not right either, your precint needs to be verified first. Some older than dirt befuddled geezer, ( again no offense meant Mars) is working this palm pilot thing. Holding it at an arms length as he attempts to jab at the screen with the little prodding thing. Clearly he did not know how to use it, I doubt he could even focus on the screen. Then he says, I need to call someone to see how to use this. I crumbled up my piece of paper and left. Thanks for listening, rant off!
  11. Where I would go is the county offices in Halls. Same building as where I pay property tax, get vehicle registration and drivers license. I do not recall if it is posted or not there. Guess I will find out when I get there, heh. Thanks for the response Mars
  12. all that will do is seperate the men from the boys.
  13. what do you all know about carrying in a polling place. I was thinking about going to early vote today and it made me wonder if I need to leave the pistol in the truck.
  14. Boom you should have called. it would have been fun.
  15. I just got back in from the woods, spending about two hours expressing my love for the 1858 Remmy Army. Took a bit to get in a rythm with loading but after a couple cylinders full I had a good flow to it and loading five rounds did not take that long. no clue how someone in a battle did it with balls zipping around in their direction. I had forgot about the aroma that comes with BP, a wonderful stink along with a nice smoke screen. The point of aim with the sights is a little low, but it was easy enough to just hold the front sight a little high to get it where I wanted it to go. Somewhere down the road i might dremel a little bit off of it so it will sit where it should. Not going to do that until I am done experimenting with loads and such. Can't wait to do it again this Saturday. Now comes the not so fun part, heading to the kitchen sink for cleaning her up.
  16. Nice looking heater, welcome to the world of steel!
  17. Maybe it is a sign of acceptance to possession of firearms. I expect rather though it is more of the same old bull where the ruling class is afforded a broader scope to protect themselves than us common folks.
  18. Elliott!! Nice to hear from you dude! Both my old style revolvers totally point very naturally. I always felt that way about the 1851, and I am hoping that the new 1858 responds as naturally too. It feels real good in hand. It has much more heft than my Ruger single six does. I also will apply the gripping method we worked on with the SP101 the last time we shot together. Wish you were here to help break this one in. Never been to Dixie Gun Works but I have bought some crap from them before. I am not sure where Union City is really. I do not believe Ruger makes BP revolvers anymore. I think their website lists those guns as out of production. Creeky this one came from a phone call but you can still get that stuff mail order, but like everything else the price has gone up some. I went to buy a new pound of black powder today on the way home. There is a little store in Halls that caters to the BP and primitive weapon crowd. Guess what? You can't get black powder around here. Closest place is well over an hour round trip. I bought a pound of pyrodex instead. Supposed to work the same just a little less smoke and flash. Other than that it is a bp substitute and not a problem to use, so I am told. I still have a bit of actual black powder and I will use that up first. Elliott, when you gonna be back?
  19. I just let the tap run as hot as it could and used some dish soap on it. I did not even use proper gun cleaning tools. I had a piece of an old fiberglass fishing pole I used as a rod and would force patches cut from old t shirts through the bore and cylinders, I never even pulled he nipples off of it. Never had a probblem. Always used real gun oil though and would soak it down pretty good after cleaning. It is out being fixed. Sent it to a guy up in New Hampshire who is working it for me. I believe he will fix it by repairing old parts and fabricating what he needs. The cam finally wore down on the hammer enough to not allow the cylinder bolt to work in proper timing. Can't wait to get that back, it was my first real handgun, nicknamed the "hand-cannon". I am not sure but I think I gave about $70 or so for it mail order back in 1980 or so.
  20. The manual even talks about baking the gun in the oven after cleaning it. It says something to the effect of heating the oven up to 250 degrees and leaving it in there for 30 minutes to evaporate all the water off it. I never did that on the other gun and it is not rusted, and I doubt I am doing it to this one either.
  21. Creeky, how many grains of BP were you shooting? The manual that came with it stated crisco and a couple of other greaes that could be used. I always used crisco in the 1851, not sure where I even came up with the idea of using it. I first started shooting that gun near 25 years ago.
  22. nail on the head there Scott. Very valid point. She has less experience than the muslim does.
  23. I put a lot of thought into whether to get the 5.5 or 8 inch barrel. I decided I like the look of the shorter gun, and I have an 1851 Navy with a 7 inch barrel, so part of it was to just go in the other direction. I am finding a lot of conflicting information about how to load it though. On the Navy I always used 30 grains of FFF and seated the ball directly atop the powder, sometimes using crisco on the end of the cylinder to seal better. The instructions with this gun ask for 15 grains of FFF and confusingly mention adding something (meal?) on top of the powder if 15 grains is not enough to fill the cylinder properly. On the internet people talk about using a wad/patch between the powder and the ball, but my instruction specifically say no patch is to be used. So this weekend I am going to use 15 grains and seat one ball. If it looks like it needs to be closer to the edge of the cylinder I will use a little oatmeal to fill in atop the powder, and then crisco over the top of the ball. Heck, figuring this stuff out is half the fun anyways. I agree they are a PITA to clean, and I am not sure how many balls I will get out of it before it gunks up too much. Hoping for 30 or 40 anyway. On the Navy sometimes I could get 50 sometimes only 25, the crisco always made a difference.
  24. Scott that is the thing about BP, lots of bang for not a lot of bucks. I paid $250 including delivery. A revolver similar that accepts cartridges would cost near twice as much. Somebody sells a conversion drop in cylinder for it and that cylinder costs more than the gun I have did. BP is relatively inexpensive, especially compared to cartridge firing handguns. My next purchase may well be a converted 1860 Army Colt that shoots .38 Special. It is an exact replica of a revolver converted to cartridge use just as they would have been in the 1870's.
  25. This weekend?
