  1. I have given up hunting since the chipmunks have vacated my house, lol. Never really was into hunting anyway. Don't the game wardens(??) disable( drug) elephants to cut their tusks back so they will not be poached? Don't know for sure why i think that, maybe I am just way off in something I thought I knew.
  2. I defer to the nice lady, i stand corrected
  3. I will assume this means one gun for the rest of time, so with that I will stick with my Ruger SP-101 and .357 mags. I do not think it will ever break, not so sure about auto loaders. MLTN, that is cheating, lol one gun but kind of like having two, not in the spirit of this argument.
  4. I do not base purchases on what might happen. I will take that as it comes. EBR's are nice and all I guess but not really my interest. Normal Capacity 14 to 16 round mags are great too but I can hardly afford to fill them anymore. So I just load them with less rounds per re-load. I am not a fan of restricted capacity mags but then my 1911 only hold 8 rounds anyway. Revolvers five or six rounds. Everyone needs to make this decision for themselves. A lot of you guys love AR's and that ilk, so I say go for it if you want.
  5. Little Feat, Waiting for Columbus
  6. Those grips are oustanding. I love how they contrast with the frame. tusks shmusks, they are nice. Brian so as not to offend you if I ever get Ivory grips they will be faux ivory
  7. Brian hits it pretty close IMHO. I would include that a conservative is someone who does not force their point of view on others to the end that the conservatives point of view over rides the others point of view.
  8. The only time anyone has shown up at our door unexpected in five years were two Jehova's Witnesses. I pretty much told them they were trespassing and had no business at my home. I pointed to the road a few hundred yards away and said "GIT" Mars were you serious about McCain?
  9. I vote for phantom as well. I wish I knew him before I took my class. And I say that even though I took a very good class run by the sherriff's office. Yep Phantom is the man!
  10. Is this "bonded" thing commonly posted on the ammunition box? Thanks defining it for me. Wouldn't all defensive ammo be bonded then?
  11. what is "bonded ammo"?
  12. Pokey I am guessing there is a break in period on that gun. Kimbers cost a lot but I think they need a few hundred rounds through them too. Do you leave your mags fully loaded while the gun is stored. I think that might help too. I had way more failures when my magazines were brand new than I have now since they have been used a bunch. WalMart for Blazer brass is 11.97 like strickj said.
  13. here is a link to them y'all might find it interesting reading http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2008/jan/24/letters/
  14. we need a place to shoot and I guess that would decide where we will be at.
  15. I don't know how well that impact driver would work. In theory I can see it working but in practice It may be too hard on the frame of the gun. You all may well know but this sear spring screw is on the bottom of the gun, about an inch or so in front of the trigger. I do not think pounding on the frame of the gun with a hammer would make matters better. The drill MOTN describes would be better if'n I had one. If worst come to worst I can return the gun to EMF and they said they would fix it. I am leaning to following Mars advice. Nero I cursed it hard, did not help.
  16. I normally would agree Mars. But my big concern is corrosion of parts from the black powder I shot and now the Pyrodex I am using. In the booklet that EMF put in with the pistol the second step in cleaning is to completely break the gun down for cleaning. And that is how I always did it with my other BP revolver. As it is now I used scalding hot water and brushed what I could reach, dried the gun with heat and then oiled the crap out of the inner springs and stuff. Did you all know black powder is very hard to get nowdays since 9-11. but on the bright side the Pyrodex worked just as well and is supposedly a cleaner powder. So anyways, what about my screw?
  17. So it is a real 1911, yikes. I don't feel bad since my low budget 1911 had done that, especially when it was new. I have never seen a metal ring on any of my .45acp's. It does look like a small primer. Must be something Federal does to save a penny here and there. Pokey i would advise you to try a different brand of ammo. I like Blazer Brass and it runs pretty good. Now when you go to start reloading I do not know how them Fed's are going to work. Like I said I never saw a metal ring around any primers before.
  18. Okay, So i have been shooting the 1858 and it shoot great, lots of fun. I go to break the gun down for proper cleaning and the sear spring screw will not back out. No amount of force I have applied will cause movement. I have tried heat and oil. No luck. I called where I bought it from to see if there was some dumb trick I am missing. I mean it is a simple screw!! They confirmed that no lock tight should have been applied in manufacture. They are shipping me another screw as I am now assuming the only way to get it out is to drill it. If I keep on torquing it the head is going to strip. Anyone have a bright idea? How about freezing it?
  19. No one has mentioned this but if you carry IWB your pants need to be a little bigger than you normally wear. I am a fat ass and no way would IWB work for me. Being a bigger than average person I think you can easily get away with OWB carry with a loose fitting cover garment of some sort. And since you are a full size man you ought to look at joining the church of John Browning and look into a full size 1911, skip them girly guns these guys all carry :) And welcome back to TGO
  20. basically a simple process. take the permit class Take certificate to TDOS station, fill out the paperwork, don't sign it until you are being watched by an agent, pay $115.00,get picture taken. They do not re-use your drivers license pic. Call to schedule fingerprinting, then go and get it done. UPS store in Halls does it around here. Wait by mailbox and make 60 posts, minimum, about your anxiety while you wait. Permit will arrive. Put permit in pocket, strap on gun and head to WalMart. Yeah, thats how it's done
  21. I seriously doubt Tim Burchette would be arrested for that even if it was brandishing or whatever. He is a real good guy. I have never heard the first bad thing said about him. If he did it I will also assume it is very legal.
  22. I slept like a baby, woke up crying every three hours.
  23. DW again welcome to this nuthouse, and here is hoping you become and active member. we took Canynracer in too!! j/k Hope you find a home among us here
  24. Welcome to TGO. On account of your post count and this being the wrong forum for these types of posts I am apprehensive. I really like the 40S&W round myself. Good stopping power and I love the feel of recoil in it. Can't blame you for deciding on it as a self defense round. I hope you become a contributing member here.
  25. c'mon, someone must legitimately sell the homeboy sights, there surely would have to have a market.
